[JAWS-Users] java programs
Hi all Using Jaws 12.0 on a windows xp machine. Im trying to use the Java application Hamsphere that you can find at www.hamsphere.org However when I open it, it simply displays a blank screen. You cannot find anything using either the pc or jaws cursor. There also seems to be no menu bar at all. According to sighted people, there seems to be edit fields where you can type in your username and password. I did download and install the access bridge for using java applications but all to no avail. Can someone help me with this perhaps? [JAWS-Users] daily information
Daily Tip: Outlook: Recent Search This is a handy tip for people who use the same keyword often when searching with Microsoft Office Outlook 2010's Instant Search feature. Click the Instant Search field and then find the Options group in the Search Tools tab (which appears in the Ribbon only when the Instant Search field is active). Now, click the Recent Searches button and then select the keyword from your 10 most recent keyword searches. Daily Term: netbook Netbooks are tiny, laptop-like devices that owe their popularity to their portability. Because they are so small (and have built-in Wi-Fi), they make good companions for travelers who want to surf the Web. That portability can come at a performance price: some netbooks don't have the power to rival traditional laptops. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws compatibility with VPNs?
OpenVPN is another one that even the gui programs they have with the windows installer will work fine. Upon starting up the gui though, it goes to the tray so you have to right click with Jaws or insert f11, arrow to OpenVPN gui, hit enter and connect. I'm sure a lot of providers who sell this for protection on public wifi make installers that put the config files in place, if not and they just give you a zip file, it usually goes in OpenVPN/config under program files. - Original Message - From: Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES) steven.hi...@nhs.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, December 29, 2011 8:35 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws compatibility with VPNs? Also ben hearing a lot of lists stating that the latest skype don't or barely works with the scripts and support is not there for help. Re: [JAWS-Users] gw Skype
Interesting, so if I understand correctly people are complaining about a little advertisement every once in a while. I'm not surprised to be honest. The program works fine and they made it screen reader independent so don't look a gift horse in the mouth as the old saying goes. Personally I know of several people who could benefit from an easier interface than what is available in Skype. Also obviously I can use either option but it is nice to work with a program that involves less effort. There are so may other software options for virus and spyware protection some of them paid and some free and accessible with JAWS. Re: [JAWS-Users] Why bother with MSE when there are so many other antivirus/spyware software options available?
Hi Prateek, I have tried 3 or 4 other Anti Virus programs I'm not going to tell you that MSSE works better or worse than any other program as far as cleaning goes but, I can say that I have no Jaws navigation problems with MSSE like I did with other Anti Virus programs. As long as I've been using MSSE, it has not failed me as far as cleaning or notifying me about possible corrupted downloaded files or, notifying me about being on an unsafe websites. It always runs in the background until there is a problem, you are never being interrupted by a screen that tells you that you need to update or scratch your ear or something! The only sure way to know if it suits your needs is to give it a trial run. As far as SAS goes, I use the Pro version, I like it but, the new interface is a pain in the a** navigating it with Jaws. Re: [JAWS-Users] Why bother with MSE when there are so many other antivirus/spyware software options available?
I can tell you if you got mcaffee, install something else and see just how many bugs you do got. A on-line scanner will tell you the tale. Also there support is expensive. They blame you and the op for any problems. i know that because verizon used them before dumping them. Verizon might make you pay for everything, but they don't like support hassles with third party software. Now MSE don't hog my resources and has done a good job sense it came out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Why bother with MSE when there are so many other antivirus/spyware software options available?
Prateek, There is no incentive. You can use what you want. However, in my experience, certain anti-virus programs are more inaccessible at least certain parts of them have been problematic. This was the case with some of the advanced functions when I tried Kasperski, Norton, and McAffee in the past. Secondly, some programs take focus away from your window when they do something that should be done in the background; this used to be the case with AVG, (at least the version I used before I switched) when it would perform an update. Now, since I find both the above behaviors quite annoying, and because MSSE has gotten very good ratings even compared to other commercial anti-virus products in independent publications, I have chosen to use MSSE. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. I have noticed that Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) software seems to be a favorite for many listers here. There are so may other software options for virus and spyware protection some of them paid and some free and accessible with JAWS. So is there any special reason why I should bother and indeed start using MSE? For example I have McAffee and super antispyware on my windows 7 PC. What is my incentive to go with MSE other than the free price of MSE?
