I set mine in the default jaws configuration file and if any other
program needs more I adjust its configuration file. You get into them
by doing insert + 6. Then do a shift + tab and you will be in the
list of programs.

Joni, John here.
I'm able to create different punctuation settings for each of my programs.
Hmmm! That's really odd. Oh sure, you can change punctuation in the
Default and it will effect every program in which individual settings have
not been made.
But as far as I know, you can create settings for each program. You'd
almost have to with something like Excel.
I never imagined that there would be an issue. But I believe that the way
to make a permanent change is to create a separate profile for each program.
There are specific steps to do that.
As I'm sure you know, part of any voice profile is how punctuation is
processed. If Miriam's settings aren't holding, I suggest that she create
separate voice profiles for each different program, save them and then make
that particular profile the one which is used when the softwear is called
up.
I can dig up those steps for creating separate voice profiles if anyone
wants them. I got them directly from Freedom.

Miriam, you should be able to set punctuation to some, most, all or none
through the Quick Settings in JAWS 13.

Open this with the insert key and v. When it opens you will be in the edit
box. In the edit box start typing the word punctuation. When JAWS says
punctuation, arrow down once. You can cycle through the various punctuation
levels by hitting the spacebar. When you get the choice you want, then hit
the tab key to okay and hit enter. You should be able to do this in any
program you have open. I have not paid much attention to punctuation on my
personal computer, so I don't know how reliable JAWS is once this setting is
changed, but that is how to change it in any given program.

2012-01-27 Thread John Justice

Miriam,
I believe that you may have inadvertently changed the settings in your Jaws
13 default. That program is used whenever no particular arrangements have
been made for a particular program. For example, if you are using a web
browser such as Internet Explorer, if no profile for that program has been
created, then the Jaws 13 default will apply. If you have the punctuation
set to All, then you will hear it and no subsequent setting will hold unless
you create an independent profile for that particular application.
This is what the reps at Freedom Scientific told me and they gave me a set
of instructions for doing that.
I'd appreciate it if anyone reading this would confirm what I'm saying,
here.
I don't recommend changing that default for any reason.

They aren't very expensive for the basic ones.
Next, plug it in and make sure that the Jaws setting for keyboard is on

Now, if you did spill something in there as some of the other members have

If it doesn't work, you might have shorted out some of the primary control

Thanks Rose, that pointed me in the right direction.

Miriam, after reading the what's new section on JAWS 13 for the Quick
Settings feature, this is how it sounds like things should work. While in
the program you are interested in, open Quick Settings with insert v. Type
the word punctuation. Arrow down when JAWS says punctuation and enter. Now
hit the applications menu key, which is just to the left of the right
control key. There are 3 choices for a persistence level in that menu.
Enter on the save the settings choice. Now hit the space bar on punctuation
to get the level you want. Hit enter and, hopefully, your setting will be
saved this time.

I did not remember that there were 2 steps involved, the persistence level
choice and then the amount of punctuation choice.

I found what's below in my Word notes but, I have never tried it. You can
give the following a try;

In Word 2007,
click the Office button, Word Options, and Proofing; click the AutoCorrect
Options button; select the AutoFormat As You Type button; remove the
checkmarks from the Automatic Bulleted Lists and Automatic Numbered Lists,
click OK, and click OK again. Hope this helps. Take care.

Thanks Rose, that pointed me in the right direction.

Miriam, after reading the what's new section on JAWS 13 for the Quick
Settings feature, this is how it sounds like things should work. While in
the program you are interested in, open Quick Settings with insert v.
Type the word punctuation. Arrow down when JAWS says punctuation and
enter. Now hit the applications menu key, which is just to the left of
the right control key. There are 3 choices for a persistence level in
that menu. Enter on the save the settings choice. Now hit the space bar
on punctuation to get the level you want. Hit enter and, hopefully, your
setting will be saved this time.

I did not remember that there were 2 steps involved, the persistence level
choice and then the amount of punctuation choice.

Hi Prateek,

I found what's below in my Word notes but, I have never tried it. You can
give the following a try;

Take care.

2012-01-27 Thread Miriam Vieni
I received the following directions from someone on another list, for
changing the punctuation settings. These apply to all applications,
apparently, and they appear to be permanent. They are different from what
most of you have suggested.
Insert J
O for options
V for voices
V again for voice settings
Tab to punctuation.
Arrow through choices. I arrowed up to find none.
When you find the setting you want, tab to OK. Then press enter.
But my computer made a rude sound when I pressed enter so I guess that
wasn't acceptable.

I just did this a few minutes ago and the setting seems to apply to all
programs. I assume this is permanent, I hope, I can then use quick settings
if I want punctuation for writing a word document.

Miriam,
I believe that you may have inadvertently changed the settings in your Jaws

It seems to me that in the good old days Jaws 10 and before, I had jaws
settings which allowed me to hear full punctuation in word and no
punctuation when I read emails or articles from the web. I was working in
those days and writing adoption home study reports and I needed to hear all
that punctuation, but I didn't need to hear it if I was reading an article
or an email. Now, it seems that even if punctuation is set to none, I
still hear it when reading emails and articles from the web. Is this
everyone's experience? Am I doing tomsething wrong?

Ah, but the setting doesn't remain. It was fine when I made it and read
your email. But when I came back to the email, the punctuation was back.

I'm sure there are many others like me who want to stop using the Google
search engine, even the accessible google site. the reasons can be
various. so if you missed the Serotek Podcast this week try out and adopt
the following search engine:

www.duckduckgo.com

very clean, very effective (surely no less effective than google, much
less data mining on you, and use the same alphanumeric syntax in the edit
field to sharpen and narrow your searches if you want. And totally
accessible. It does not force their idea on what your search terms should
be as you type them in. As in google, h for heading hops u from search
result to search result. a

For anyone using JAWS installing TapinRadio, from www.tapinradio.com ,
check the checkbox for screen-reader user you will meet with after you

No. You need JAWS 11 or 12 and newer to be able to use Office 2010.
Office 2010 will probably run on XP however.
But I'm actually not sure about that.

[JAWS-Users] New Information On Transporting Office Settings

2012-01-27 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi All,

Out of curiosity I checked the MS Office folder in All Programs there was
a save my settings wizard. I ran a search, and below is what I found.

SUMMARY
This step-by-step guide describes how to back up user settings for an Office
XP installation to a secure Web site or to a file by using the Save My
Settings
Wizard.

The Save My Settings Wizard stores information about program options and
preferences, custom templates and dictionaries, and AutoCorrect lists to a
secure
location on the Internet or to a file. You can also use the Save My Settings
Wizard to restore settings to an Office XP installation.
Back Up Office XP Settings
NOTE: When you start the Save My Settings Wizard, you will be prompted to
quit any Office XP programs that may be running. Quit all Office XP programs
before
you perform this procedure.

To back up Office XP settings by using the Save My Settings Wizard, follow
these steps:

list of 5 items
1. Start the Save My Settings Wizard. To do this, click Start, point to
Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Save My Settings
Wizard.
2. On the first page of the wizard, click Next.
3. Click the Save the settings from this machine option, and then click
Next.
4. Click one of the following options:

list of 2 items nesting level 1
• Save the settings to the Web
• Save the settings to a File
list end nesting level 1
NOTE: If you choose the Save the settings to a File option, the settings are
stored in an Office Profile Settings (OPS) file on your computer's hard disk
when you click Next, and the wizard will finish. If you choose the Save the
settings to the Web option, you will be prompted to type a Microsoft
Passport
ID when you click Next.

Click Next.
5. Type your Passport sign-in name and password, and then click OK.

Microsoft stores your settings on the Web for three months. If you want to
receive e-mail notification before the expiration date, type your e-mail
address,
and then click Next. If you do not want to receive this notification, leave
the E-mail address box blank, and then click Finish.
list end

For additional information about the Save My Settings Wizard, please see the
following Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit Web site:

Hope this helps others besides me. Take care.
