Re: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11
I set mine in the default jaws configuration file and if any other program needs more I adjust its configuration file. You get into them by doing insert + 6. Then do a shift + tab and you will be in the list of programs. At 08:48 PM 1/26/2012, you wrote: If you have a chance to find them, could you please send them and perhaps I can get help doing this. I've got punctuation set for none but jaws is reading all of it. The quick settings don't stay. I may just have to adjust but it seems like there ought to be a solution. I'm able to create different punctuation settings for each of my programs. Hmmm! That's really odd. Oh sure, you can change punctuation in the Default and it will effect every program in which individual settings have not been made. But as far as I know, you can create settings for each program. You'd almost have to with something like Excel. I never imagined that there would be an issue. But I believe that the way to make a permanent change is to create a separate profile for each program. There are specific steps to do that. As I'm sure you know, part of any voice profile is how punctuation is processed. If Miriam's settings aren't holding, I suggest that she create separate voice profiles for each different program, save them and then make that particular profile the one which is used when the softwear is called up. I can dig up those steps for creating separate voice profiles if anyone wants them. I got them directly from Freedom. Re: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11
Miriam, I believe that you may have inadvertently changed the settings in your Jaws 13 default. That program is used whenever no particular arrangements have been made for a particular program. For example, if you are using a web browser such as Internet Explorer, if no profile for that program has been created, then the Jaws 13 default will apply. If you have the punctuation set to All, then you will hear it and no subsequent setting will hold unless you create an independent profile for that particular application. This is what the reps at Freedom Scientific told me and they gave me a set of instructions for doing that. I'd appreciate it if anyone reading this would confirm what I'm saying, here. I don't recommend changing that default for any reason. Re: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard On Laptop Stopped Working
Donny, Before you do anything else, see if you can get yourself a USB keyboard. They aren't very expensive for the basic ones. Next, plug it in and make sure that the Jaws setting for keyboard is on Laptop, not Desktop. Now, if you did spill something in there as some of the other members have indicated, tha keyboard may be the only way you can make the computer function. If it doesn't work, you might have shorted out some of the primary control circuits. Tbhat would be like holding down a key permanently since the contacts open when you press a key. If that has happened, that USB keyboard might not work. But Donny, it is certainly worth a try. Been there, done that if you know what I mean. hello all. I want to permanently remove this behavior in any MS Word doc I open on my Win7 PC. I David the moderator posted one of his daily tips a while back to undo this default behavior but as is often the case that process broke down because at some point in the steps you couldn't do it with JAWS. Thanks Rose, that pointed me in the right direction. Miriam, after reading the what's new section on JAWS 13 for the Quick Settings feature, this is how it sounds like things should work. While in the program you are interested in, open Quick Settings with insert v. Type the word punctuation. Arrow down when JAWS says punctuation and enter. Now hit the applications menu key, which is just to the left of the right control key. There are 3 choices for a persistence level in that menu. Enter on the save the settings choice. Now hit the space bar on punctuation to get the level you want. Hit enter and, hopefully, your setting will be saved this time. I did not remember that there were 2 steps involved, the persistence level choice and then the amount of punctuation choice. Hi Prateek, I found what's below in my Word notes but, I have never tried it. You can give the following a try; In Word 2007, click the Office button, Word Options, and Proofing; click the AutoCorrect Options button; select the AutoFormat As You Type button; remove the checkmarks from the Automatic Bulleted Lists and Automatic Numbered Lists, click OK, and click OK again. Hello. First: the note below fixed it in MS Word, so thanks. Now each time I am typing an email to someone in MS Outlook 2007, and say type the number1 then a period and then some test and then hit enter, Outlook 2007 automatically adds a number 2 in the next line. Re: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11
I received the following directions from someone on another list, for changing the punctuation settings. These apply to all applications, apparently, and they appear to be permanent. They are different from what most of you have suggested. Insert J O for options V for voices V again for voice settings Tab to punctuation. Arrow through choices. I arrowed up to find none. When you find the setting you want, tab to OK. Then press enter. But my computer made a rude sound when I pressed enter so I guess that wasn't acceptable. I just did this a few minutes ago and the setting seems to apply to all programs. I assume this is permanent, I hope, I can then use quick settings if I want punctuation for writing a word document. Ms word 2007 -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Ann Byrne Sent: Friday, January 27, 2012 7:52 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] protecting a document ms 2007 alert At 10:10 PM 1/25/2012, you wrote: After reviewing the method for protecting a document sent earlier and could not get it to work for me I recalled the original method starting with f12 key save as. After tabbing until I got to tools I arrowed down to general and entered there. I had to type the password twice and hit ok. Fine, that Which version of Office is this??? sounds normal behavior right? Fooling around I wanted to see how to unprotect the document. I went back in starting with f12 and followed the same steps but when I got to the password fields I decided to see what would happen if I backspaced over the * in the first and second fields and hit ok and then see if I could open the document. It opened the document with no problems. Well that seems to me to be strange because anyone knowing where to begin in the protection area need only to backspace over the fields erasing the * and they could open your document. Any thoughts? No. You need JAWS 11 or 12 and newer to be able to use Office 2010. Office 2010 will probably run on XP however. But I'm actually not sure about that. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of david ingram Sent: 27. januar 2012 18:27 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Does microsoft 2010 work with jaws 8.0 and windows xp? [JAWS-Users] Examine 32.
Hello, Some of my visually impaired friends here in Bhutan work as Medical transcript which means recording and putting into text the words spoken. However, their sighted colleagues seems to use a software known as examine 32. We tried but does not seem to be friendly with JAWS. Does any know whether or not there is a JAWS script?
