Re: [JAWS-Users] an interactive JAWS script

2012-10-07 Thread David Ferrin
I started out by reading the manual some years ago. Unfortunately I'm not as
much of a script writer as I would like to be at this point. The window
status script and a couple of others exactly which ones escape me at this
moment are posted on the server.

This interactive deal was my own idea, I just had to find the code for
creating the menu and what it took to code the if statement.

The idea of placing everything in modules the way the tutorial explains it
comes from my training as a Cobol programmer, more years ago than I care to
admit.

Thanks.

I just posted a tutorial on creating, modifying and using such an animal. It
has been on my to do list for quite some time, I hope it will benefit some
of you folks who like to dabble in the script manager.

It doesn't get too advanced, what it does do is demonstrate a method where
by you can use just one key stroke to select from any number of options. In
this world of the ever growing list of key strokes we need to remember I
thought it would be nice to go the other way for a change. This is something
I have been using for quite some time. I hope you get some enjoyment out of
it.

I've noticed something peculiar and want to see if others have too. In
both JAWS 14 beta 1 and 2 I can download the actual JAWS updates but
when I try to download any of the training materials etc. it won't.
Are these not available until the official release of JAWS or is there
some problem on my end?

Thanks

getting a USB sound card or headphones (both will work)would be far cheaper
than this and is not so hard to do. I have some information on it here that
I can bundle up and pass along to folks.

Hi Susan

It's Dectalk Access 32, the software version of Dectalk, that won't work
under Windows 7 or Vista. The hardware Dectalk Express works fine in
Windows 7. If your computer doesn't have a serial port, like most new
computers, you'll have to obtain a USB to serial converter to hook up the
Dectalk Express.

mike,
Sorry I missed your message the other night. I'm glad to hear that you were
successful with Dectalk Express as I thought I'd heard that it didn't work
with Windows 7 for some reason. I do have it and will try that first. Being
able to run Dectalk sounds easier than trying to wade through the FS site to
find the right bulletin for the instructions. My head tells me that the
process of installing a secondary soundcard should be straightforward
enough, but I've made my share of stupid mistakes and don't want to break
anything.

I have successfully used Dectalk Express under Windows 7 64 bit with JAWS
12, 13 and 14 beta. A second sound card for JAWS should also work. Instead
of unloading JAWS, you can mute it by pressing JAWSkey+space and then
pressing s. To unmute JAWS, press JAWSkey+space and then s again.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Total Recorder and JAWS

Hi Everyone,
Using Windows 7 and JAWS 12 with the latest build of Total Recorder, I can't
figure out how to do software recording without also including JAWS speech.
On my previous XP system with an older version of TR, I either had to use
Dectalk Express or to utilize a registry patch in order to solve this
problem. Unfortunately, I have lost this file in migrating to my new system.

Besides the obvious solution of unloading JAWS, which I'd prefer not to do
unless absolutely necessary, is there a workaround for this problem? Will
Dectalk Express work with Windows 7 or is there a total Recorder driver
configuration that might be more feasible? I don't understand a lot of the
help files about setting parameters or deciding which drivers I should use.
In fact, I'm not even sure which is installed as the default or how to
change drivers. Any help or advice would be appreciated, preferrably with
step by step directions, although my sighted son is an audio engineer who
will at least understand whatever feedback I get. Thank you for your
patience.
