Hi Donnie,
While in Internet Explorer, use Insert + V, to open the Jaws Settings
Center.
Tab once to get to the tree-view of settings and look for the following:
Frame Update Notification
Use the spacebar to cycle thru the available settings for this feature.
This applies to all features in the tree-view.
While you are there, arrow thru the other options and make changes to suit
your preference,
noting that, once you have made a selection, you can tab once to hear a
description of the setting.
After you have made your changes, simply tab to the okay button, and
spacebar that.

Hi Donnie,
In addition to my prior message:
Jaws is highly customizable, and just as you can customize it for specific
applications,
you can do the same for web pages.
I would recommend looking at the Help Topics in Jaws,
and reviewing the training material installed on your PC, or visiting the
Training page at Freedom Scientific.
Another member mentioned Flexible Web, but I don't use it, so can't comment
on it.

Hi Flor Julie,

Great idea / tip! I tried as you suggested but, when you shift + tab
into
the application list find the application you want, you need to tab
1 time

into the Settings Center for that application. Pressing enter on the
application closes the Settings Center. So, here is how I accessed
the

Openbook Settings Center:
1. While in Outlook Express I pressed Insert key + 6, on the number
row

above the main keyboard to open the Outlook Express Settings Center.
2. I invoked the keystroke, shift + tab, to get into the application
list.

3. I pressed the letter O, until I had Openbook highlighted.
4. I tabbed 1 time into the Openbook Settings Center.
5. I Typed, sleep, into the search edit field waited a few seconds
for the

list to populate arrowed down to Sleep Mode . miscellaneous.
6. Now, right here the spacebar needs to be pressed to toggle the
options

until Jaws reports, sleep mode enable and unload the synthesizer.
7. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar
to save

your changes close.

Julie, give these steps a try let us know what happens. Flor,
thanks

again for your suggestion. Hope this helped.
Take care.

Mike,

How about: in the Settings Center, if you press shift-tab from another
program, then in the combo box find the program/application's Settings
Center file that you wish to modify by pressing enter on it, etc.
Thus,

JAWS has a Settings Center file for Open Book (whether you have Open
Book or not), and you can modify it in advance, so to speak. (You
would
open the Miscellaneous settings and check the checkbox enable sleep
and

unload synthesizer.)

Hi Julie,

What you need to do is start the program you would like to put Jaws
to

sleep
in but, I couldn't open the Settings Center with either the Insert +
F2
keystroke for the Jaws Manager or the Insert Key + 6, on the number
row
above the main keyboard with Openbook open. You need to be able to
get into
the Settings Center with Openbook running in order to put Jaws asleep
while
running this program. Well, at least this is the only way I know how
to put
Jaws to sleep when using a particular program. I tried this running
Jaws
13, Openbook 7.02, XP Pro. Perhaps someone will have another way
to

do
it. As Alan suggested, you might want to give FS tech support a call
back
to let them fix it! Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007

2013-02-07 Thread Greg Washington
I am having a real problem using Jaws 14, all versions including latest
update with Outlook 2007 on my windows 7 machine. When I first open Outlook
Jaws works fine allowing me to read emails using the shortcut keys such as h
for headings, etc. However after Outlook has been open for a while, 5
minutes or longer, the Jaws hot keys stop working. For example when I hit
the h key the letter h is typed in the open email rather than going to a
heading in the email.

I spoke with FS tech support yesterday. They said that it seems that
Outlook 2007 on my computer deteriorates after it has been open for a
while and and is not recognizing the open emails as virtual documents. He
could tell that because when I am experiencing this problem the pc cursor
key says pc cursor rather than virtual pc cursor. He suggested I make sure
my Outlook 2007 had all the updates.

I checked that and all updates for windows 7 and office 2007 have been
installed. I also ran the office diagnostic tool from the Outlook 2007 help
menu and everything reported as no problems.

I can work around this problem by either using Jaws 13 where the
insert+shift+w key opens the email in a web browser window or I can close
Outlook 2007 and reopen it again when using Jaws 14. However I would like
to be able to use Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007 without having to do that every 5
minutes or so.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Greg Washington

I was looking into this because after I cleaned jaws off my machine and
reinstalled the FsReader did not install. I believe that running the uninstall
from the executable does not clean things up very well. I think upon
reinstalling the installer thought the FsReader was still there [there was a
lot of junk in the registry] and wouldn't install it.
I think it should be made a crime to not remove everything an installer puts in
the machine, of course a application developer can't understand why any one

hi there, in the later versions of Jaws, it comes with FS READER. Do you
have Jaws installed on your computer? And what version? I think in version
10 or 11 of Jaws, it comes with the full version of FS Reader.

So, if you need the full version of FS Reader, Try downloading the newer
version of Jaws if you have an older version of Jaws.

The older version of Jaws has the FS Reader Demo.
 Hope I helped.

[JAWS-Users] how to handle a graphic that needs to be clicked on

2013-02-07 Thread joanne
On some sites there is a place where it will say graphic and in order to use
the site or perform an application you have to somehow click the graphic. I
have tried routing cursors but it really doesn't put it on the graphic. An
example is, with my credit union some transactions--such as electronic
signatures--say something like graphic sign here. Well hitting space bar or
enter or left click doesn't seem to allow me to finish the transaction. Is
this not possible to do with Jaws or is there a key combo that will help us
with these graphics?

I find that jaws14 has a hard time focusing on links. Jaws reports that I am

You can give it a try to see if that might be the problem or you might find out

Re: [JAWS-Users] open book and jaws

Hi

I believe that the Settings Center cannot be opened while in OpenBook
because the default OpenBook that comes from Freedom Scientific already has
the setting for sleep and unload. You can open the configuration by
starting it from another application and then changing to the OpenBook
configuration.

Mike,

How about: in the Settings Center, if you press shift-tab from another
program, then in the combo box find the program/application's Settings
Center file that you wish to modify by pressing enter on it, etc. Thus, JAWS
has a Settings Center file for Open Book (whether you have Open Book or
not), and you can modify it in advance, so to speak. (You would open the
Miscellaneous settings and check the checkbox enable sleep and unload
synthesizer.)

 Hi Julie,

What you need to do is start the program you would like to put Jaws to
 sleep
in but, I couldn't open the Settings Center with either the Insert +
 F2
keystroke for the Jaws Manager or the Insert Key + 6, on the number
 row
above the main keyboard with Openbook open. You need to be able to
 get into
the Settings Center with Openbook running in order to put Jaws asleep
 while
running this program. Well, at least this is the only way I know how
 to put
Jaws to sleep when using a particular program. I tried this running
 Jaws
13, Openbook 7.02, XP Pro. Perhaps someone will have another way to
 do
it. As Alan suggested, you might want to give FS tech support a call

to let them fix it! Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
 Take care.

I am having a real problem using Jaws 14, all versions including latest
update with Outlook 2007 on my windows 7 machine. When I first open
Outlook
Jaws works fine allowing me to read emails using the shortcut keys such as
h

for headings, etc.

He suggested I make
sure

my Outlook 2007 had all the updates.

I checked that and all updates for windows 7 and office 2007 have been
installed. I also ran the office diagnostic tool from the Outlook 2007
help

menu and everything reported as no problems.

I can work around this problem by either using Jaws 13 where the
insert+shift+w key opens the email in a web browser window or I can close
Outlook 2007 and reopen it again when using Jaws 14. However I would like
to be able to use Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007 without having to do that every
5

minutes or so.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I understand, Greg. I've had the same issues with Outlook Express with Jaws

14.

I thankfully use Jaws 13, but as Jaws gets more bloated with features and
minor workarounds, these annoyances are growing. I've submitted a couple
tech support requests to FS but to no avail.

Until Jaws go through a complete re-write, I don't know if I'll continue
getting an SMA because of all the little aggravations like this, webpage
hangs and crashes that I don't experience with competitive products.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007

I am having a real problem using Jaws 14, all versions including latest
update with Outlook 2007 on my windows 7 machine. When I first open
 Outlook
Jaws works fine allowing me to read emails using the shortcut keys such as

 h
for headings, etc.

An alternative is to use Firefox, where html5 is better understood than
in IE.
In Internet Explorer, you could try turning off the virtual cursor with
Insert+z, then find

the link and press enter on it. Then Toggle the virtual cursor on again
with insert+z to resume normal operation.

Sometimes, at least with Jaws 14, I've noticed that certain links won't open
the first time, you have to hit enter twice or go to the links list and hit
the activate button. This appears to have been resolved if you downloaded
the latest update though.

Also, make sure you don't have the info bar coming up asking you to allow a

Yes, that is an example of another bug. It particularly happens when you
bring up search results on Google. Unfortunately, it won't do it all the
time, but I'll bet, at least until the February 4th update, it would open a
different link at least 20 percent of the time.

Another workaround might be to left-click when you are focused on the link.

JAWS seems to have a focus issue with older browsers. Here at work, we
are still using IE 7, and often when JAWS reads a control and you try to
activate it, you are really activating something altogether different.

I find that jaws14 has a hard time focusing on links. Jaws reports that
I am on a link but will not activate it. As a work around I bring up
the links list, it usually presents me with the link I am trying to
activate and I choose move to link. This way I can just press enter on
the link or use the application key to open the page in a new window.
You can give it a try to see if that might be the problem or you might
find out it might be something else.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unable to use FsReader in my PC.

2013-02-07 Thread johnnybrl
hi, do you know how to get into the registry?you might be able to fix things
by going into the registry and deleting anything that says
freedomscientific.
sometimes when you have to uninstall a program, you have to make sure to
delete all traces of the program. like after you uninstall Jaws, then you go
into the program files and find the freedomscientif c folder and totally
delete it with the shift delete key. It will ask you if you want to erace
the folder or not. I must tell you, if you do the shift delete command, it
will not move it to the recycle bin folder. Instead it will totally erace
the folder you are trying to delete.
So, you'll probably have to uninstall Jaws and delete the freedomscientific
folder afterwords.
Then, go into the windows registry by using the run dialog with windows key
r, then typing, regedit.exe
Now, after you hit enter, you will see a bunch of registry folders that are
either open or closed. The first one you will probably see first, is HKEY
classes Root. it will either say open or closed just go down until it says
something like, HKEY current user. open that folder with right arrow and go
down till you see the folder called software. open that folder and go down
until you see the Freedomscientific folder. just hit the delete key and it
will ask you if you want to delete the registry folder. Hit Y for yes and it
will be deleted.
Next, hit left arrow a couple of times till you close the HKEY Current user
folder.
Then, go down again until you see the folder called, HKEY local machine.
open that folder with right arrow and go down until you see the software
folder. open the folder and go down until you see the freedomscientific
folder. delete that folder and hit left arrow until you close the HKEY local
machine folder. Sorry if this is too long, but I hope I helped you.

Do you have another screen reader like NVDA so you can do this? I'm not sure
if it will fix your problem, but sometimes programs will get corrupted, and
even an uninstall and a reinstall won't help, unless, as a last resort, you
have to go unto the windows registry folder and deleting the program folder.

If all else fails, maybe try a reformat of windows.

Using Windows XP and JAWS13, Chrome Frame did not make reading the
googlegroups page any easier. In fact, it made it worse. (the links
wouldn't show, JAWS lost focus quite a lot, and I got the dreaded 'open

accessibly with JAWS14, and with IE8 or IE9 on Windows7. I may try that;
but on what pages does Chrome Frame work well? One would have thought it
should work well on google's own mail pages, even still in Windows XP

arrow down to save as. That will open the usual form where you can choose
where to save the file and rename it if you like.

I have installed Internet Explorer 9, but the files that I download, no

asked if I want to open or save the file, I press alt S, but I don't know
how to change the folder.

I am using Windows Vista, internet explorer 9 and jaws 14.

People kind of use them interchangeably but they are essentially the same

Thanks for the suggestion Rick- unfortunately not very much there. I tried
both graphics card and video card- I'm confused at this point whether they
are different or if the term has just changed ;) It was a good suggestion
though, and I forget that that source of info is available.

2nd question on buying computer- Does a ATI vs. Nvidia

graphics card make a difference to JFW in anyone's experience? Last time I
bought an Nvidia G-Force card on an AMD processor, and I feel that JFW has
not lived as happily as might be on this computer and am wondering whether
the graphics card is a factor. Thanks for any insight and comments.

Graphics card and video card are used interchangeably. It's the drivers
that matter.

An alternative is to use Firefox, where html5 is better understood than in
IE.
In Internet Explorer, you could try turning off the virtual cursor with
Insert+z, then find
the link and press enter on it. Then Toggle the virtual cursor on again with
insert+z to resume normal operation.

I have noticed that some links will not open at all, and this happens
on many websites of late. I may not have my HTML or some other setting
set right, but even trying to do a shift enter, which works sometimes
because some links open in a new browser window, doesn't help. This is
Jaws 14 so not sure if it's a Jaws 14 thing or something in my
configuration settings. I also get the message on some pages that tell
me to upgrade I.E. but I refuse to use 9 because a lot of people have
had trouble navigating or downloading using 9. Are some links
configured in some way to where Jaws can't line up with the link and
open? I can switch to another version to see if the problem persists
but wanted to ask first if anyone has seen kind of a frequent thing
with websites where links just won't open. And it's not the whole
site, just to be clear. It's just certain links on the sites, which
leads me to believe there's something about the link itself that makes
it impossible to open. Do I have to put it back to mouse-over setting
in HTML? I have it not to speak that but should it be put back, as
some links have something to do with something mouse-over related?
Which I don't really know the meaning of but just puzzled about this
whole thing.

 Hope someone can help.

JAWS seems to have a focus issue with older browsers. Here at work, we are
still using IE 7, and often when JAWS reads a control and you try to
activate it, you are really activating something altogether different.

I find that jaws14 has a hard time focusing on links. Jaws reports that I
am on a link but will not activate it. As a work around I bring up the
links list, it usually presents me with the link I am trying to activate and
I choose move to link. This way I can just press enter on the link or use
the application key to open the page in a new window.
You can give it a try to see if that might be the problem or you might find
out it might be something else.
