[JAWS-Users] Solid State Drive Migration Tools

2013-02-22 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Hi friends,

I am considering purchasing a solid state drive for my laptop.
Does anyone have any experience migrating one drive to another?
Is there anything that is accessible with JAWS for drive migration e.g. to copy
or clone my existing drive to the new one please?
Samsung provide some software with their drives but I don't know if it clones
and also, if it is accessible.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Solid State Drive Migration Tools

2013-02-22 Thread David Ferrin
FYI I just replaced the hard drive in my laptop and using the image for
windows program reloaded the new drive so it was an exact duplicate so far
as the system partition was concerned except for one issue, I had to bring
down another ILM key since JAWS realized it was a different drive and came
up in demo mode. This surprised me but that is how it goes.

I thought it went by mother board or some other hardware feature which I'm
sure it does, I just didn't expect that drives were included in the mix.

Hello Suey,

What I have tried in the past is activating the combo box with an alt down
arrow. Then I activated the jaws cursor, routed the jaws cursor to pc
cursor. Then went down the list with jaws until I found the item I wanted
then routed the pc to jaws. If you know the first letter of the item in the

box and press the first letter. I hope this helps! I know this is a pain.

In looking at your audio tutorial, you have to upload the new image on the

FYI I just replaced the hard drive in my laptop and using the image for
windows program reloaded the new drive so it was an exact duplicate so far
as the system partition was concerned except for one issue, I had to bring
down another ILM key since JAWS realized it was a different drive and came
up in demo mode. This surprised me but that is how it goes.

I thought it went by mother board or some other hardware feature which I'm
sure it does, I just didn't expect that drives were included in the mix.

Hi friends,

I am considering purchasing a solid state drive for my laptop.
Does anyone have any experience migrating one drive to another?
Is there anything that is accessible with JAWS for drive migration e.g. to
copy or clone my existing drive to the new one please?
Samsung provide some software with their drives but I don't know if it
clones and also, if it is accessible.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Hi All,

Could someone please remind me which settings I need to play with to hear
or

not hear certain JAWS keystroke feedback, in particular, control plus c
to copy something to the clipboard, and windows key plus c to append
something to the clipboard? I couldn't find these keystrokes in the
keyboard manager or, perhaps overlooked them. I'm aware that certain
keystrokes are Windows keystrokes I'm wondering how to silence them as
well, if there is a different way other than using the dictionary manager.

Use alt down arrow, but you should be able to just use the virtual pc cursor
without routing jaws to it. If that does not work, route jaws to it and try
arrowing down, but on the internet, or in any combo box, you should just be
able to press alt down arrow and then arrow up and down through the list.

think it is because the developer thought it a good idea to have quick

Hi Ryan,

I posted your question to a couple of other lists' below are the replies I
received:

From: Flor Lynch
Hi Mike,

Can the file be saved as text (from Adobe Reader) and, if so, have you tried
it; and what were the results like?
Flor

From: net bat
i don't know if this will work. but in the views pull down there is a option
for 2 page view.

From: Axel Krueger
Can you use an OCR in a virtual print mode? You can choose single column
Axelbefore you save the file.

From: Drew Hunthausen
Ryan,
Is this a paper for a school, and do you have any DSS resources on campus
that could help you with this. I'm only asking because when I was in
college, I graduated last year, I had this same problem and had the DSS
staff help me out. I had a number of text resources that needed to be
translated so I could read them and I knew it would take hours and hours to
translate them myself. Just a suggestion.

From: Charles Coe
Hi,

You might want to try FS Open Book 9 if you have a scanner.
Charles

From: Kevin Hourigan
Hi. Isn't the virtual cursor supposed to deal with that.
Kevin

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] pdf files with two columns

Hello listers,

I come across pdf text books that for some reason are created in two
columns. Please help if you know how to get them into one column so jaws
will read them properly. I am in the middle of writing a research paper and

need to read this pdf and reference it. Thanks for any help you can
provide.

Sincerely, Ryan West

Re: [JAWS-Users] Solid State Drive Migration Tools

2013-02-22 Thread David Ferrin
What I did was simply reload the drive as demonstrated in my second
tutorial. Note this is a bit easier with a drive that is larger but what it
does do is make the entire drive beyond the system partition un-allocated
and then you have to use something like partition assistant to allocate the
remainder of the drive's space. It's been quite some time since I loaded an
image on to a smaller drive so for that I will need to check my notes.

So on a 500 GB which is actually 465 GB it created a 35 GB system partition
and then I allocated the rest as a data drive of 430 GB.

Dave,

Question on IFW.

In looking at your audio tutorial, you have to upload the new image on the
drive using a Usb bridge in order to have speech, is that correct?

FYI I just replaced the hard drive in my laptop and using the image for
windows program reloaded the new drive so it was an exact duplicate so far
as the system partition was concerned except for one issue, I had to bring
down another ILM key since JAWS realized it was a different drive and came
up in demo mode. This surprised me but that is how it goes.

I thought it went by mother board or some other hardware feature which I'm
sure it does, I just didn't expect that drives were included in the mix.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Solid State Drive Migration Tools

Running XP Widows7, J13, J14. All help will be greatly appreciated.
 Thank you all very much.

 Take care.
 Mike
