[JAWS-Users] Reading Math on the Internet

Subject: Re: [Blindmath] Reading Math on the Internet

Here's a little "secret" that I'm planning to blog about once MathPlayer
3.0 comes out (really, really soon): you can make Wikipedia pages use
MathJax. That means that if you read the pages via IE+MathPlayer, the math
is accessible (mostly -- there are some equations that are not coded
correctly, but almost all are).

There are several steps that you need to do, and sadly two of them are not
accessible so you will need a sighted colleague, but they are all "do it
once, work always on that computer".

I will detail all the steps in a blog, but the short form is:
1. Create an account on Wikipedia (inaccessible captcha).
2. In preferences, appearances, at the bottom click on "MathJax
(experimental; best for most browsers)"
3. Click "save" at the bottom.
4. Go to a Wikipedia page with math on it. Right click on an equation,
choose math renderer as MathML. This is inaccessible.
5. You will now hear the math spoken. Based on some feedback, be aware
that JAWS seems to wait for MathJax to render all the math, and this might
mean a 10 second pause or more before hearing anything on the page. Some
people have thought JAWS died. Be patient!

Good luck,

[JAWS-Users] jaws 13 not reading out mis-spellings character by character!

2013-03-28 Thread Lists
Hi All,

When I do a spell check in word jaws will only read the word and not follow
it up by announcing the actual mis-spelled word character by character like
he used too.
Is there any setting I can alter to resolve this issue.

Many thanks,

Paul.

If I am in the first column, and press, End,
Then the right arrow key, I move to the second column.
Then I press, End, again, and the right arrow key
And I am in the third column.
I can reverse this by pressing, Home,
Then the left arrow key
Seems a bit clumsy, but it helps me get at the information.

  Hi Steven,

  To get sounds In IE9 & 10:
After you hit alt n for the notification bar and begin the save, hit
control

  j. Tab to the options link, press the spacebar, tab and when you hear
notify
  me when download is

complete, hit spacebar to check the option. tab to & Okay the choice.

In Internet Explorer 9 / 10 there is the option of having system sounds,
as
there were in internet explorer 8. These sounds include a sound when a
  download is complete.

By default the system sounds are off. To turn them on:

  1. On the tools menu, choose internet options.

  2. In the dialog ctrl+tab until you get to the advanced page.

  3. In the settings tree view, in the accessiblity group, there's the item
play system sounds-off. You can quickly move to this by pressing the
letter
  p. Press spacebar, and the item changes to play system sounds-on.

  4. press enter to press the default ok button.

Navigating to a default download folder:

  Using IE9,

  When you press enter on a download link;

  You will hear;

  Notification requires response,

  Here you would press alt+n,

  Now if you use your tab key, you would see;

  Run button,

  Save button,

  Cancel button.

So, the save button will download the file into the default folder.

However, if you wish to change the default folder,

  You can press,

  Ctrl+j

Now using tab key move to options link and press enter.

Here you will find a browse button,

If you either shift+tab, or tab your way, you will come to a tree-view,

Now you can arrow and choose

Hopefully this will get you started,

  Take care.

You need to use alt+n on downloads and you don't seem to receive ttones

[JAWS-Users] Adobe Flash with JAWS, unlabeled buttons question

I hope this question hasn't already been asked and answered. Forgive me in
advance if it has.

When JFW encounters buttons in the Flash player (video controls and markers?)
it only reads the buttons by number if they're unlabeled.

Question1: Does Flash have a standard button scheme, where button 1 is always
start, button 2 is pause etc.?

2. Are there any scripts or at least tips, for navigating the video control
panel in Flash? I know it sounds odd that a blind guy would need to know this,
but thanks in advance for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Google Talk, Jaws 14, and windows 7

2013-03-28 Thread Boston, Jason (RIS-OKC)
Has anyone had success with this program along with JFW14 and windows 7? I've
installed it and can send messages no problem. I can find my contacts too. I
just can't read anything sent to me.

Are there good scripts somewhere to make this work? I've looked around a little
and found some that are for jaws 7 and later, but they do nothing to help read
incoming messages.
 TIA

Jason

[JAWS-Users] Translators compatible with JAWS?

2013-03-28 Thread Paul Shallbetter
I've asked this before, but I'm hoping that a new subscriber expert might be
able to help me, as I need this type of software for my work.

Is there a JAWS-compatible language translator software out there? Older
versions of SysTran worked quite well with JAWS; my former setup was a 3.xx
version of JAWS with Systran on a Windows 2000 machine. However, new versions
of both Systran and JAWS don't play together at all.

While I can use online translators for a few words or a short phrase, I need to
be able to translate massive Word documents between English, Spanish and
Portugese in order to do my job; please help if you can. If we want to
brainstorm, we could take this off-list, but if you have a solid factual
answer, please post it right away.

Thanks!

Paul

Re: [JAWS-Users] Talking Weather Software

2013-03-28 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
I use the regular weather underground site, and I also subscribe to
their email updates. I like their site because they have several
reporting stations in my local area, as opposed to most others that only
use the airports. The nearest airport to me is 20 miles away, and in
this area, conditions can differ greatly over that distance.

Hmmm. If that works, there ought to be a way to write scripts to give the
feedback. Unfortunately I don't have the time to write them, much less the
expertise. I'm going to email JFW so maybe in the next release we can get
something.

[JAWS-Users] Extraneous Speech with Jaws and Internet Explorer

2013-03-28 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi to the list.
This is a phenomenon that I have been wondering about for a long long time.
Generally, when you activate a link in Internet Explorer, it seems as
if Jaws renders lots of extraneous speech, reading bits of the
previous page, reading bits of the next page, and then finally, Page
has 3 headings and 57 links.
I sure would like to find a setting that would render Jaws completely
silent until the statistics of the newly loaded page are read.
This is especially annoying in Flexible web, where you set up a rule
to start reading at a specific point on the page.
It seems as if Jaws will eventually begin reading at that part, but
again, after lots of random and irrelevant speech.
Any thoughts sure appreciated.
Thanks.
