[JAWS-Users] Off topic: eMail list

2013-04-12 Thread Pablo Morales

Good morning every body.
I don't know if it is a real off topic, or what.
I am making a html document, using note pad. it works in my home, perfectly,
but in my work it is not opening the pages linked for the regular way,
submit buttons or links. I don't kow if the problem is jaws, I got jaws 14
at home, and jaws 13 at my work. Even though, maybe the problem is the
windows ersion. At my home is windows xp, and in my work is windows 7.

It could be affecting how a html document works?
Ok, might it doesn't. Do you know any eMail list related with programming,
or this kind of things, in case that is no the problem?

Thanks for all.
Pablo

Re: [JAWS-Users] Off topic: eMail list

2013-04-12 Thread David Ferrin

Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created
for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen
reader Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about
what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even
better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could
be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as
we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a
certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for
exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason.
It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The
ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody
no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have
the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck
the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say
that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it
last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be.
If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve
your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order.
Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task
and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite
and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no
bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with
them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible.
Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not
be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This
is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be
descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us
simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there
are over 550 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody
on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the
guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with
questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may
or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in
the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There
you will find the group web address along with some other relevant
information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address
and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to
reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead
open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not
after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no
longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or
services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given
subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the
subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and
members should only post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field
should be short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message
rules to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in
effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach
many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on
topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up
such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators.
Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to
help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an
article or message of interest which relates to the

  nature of th

My problem, doesn't fit exactly in your guide lines. But it could fit pretty
well. Why? Because your guide lines are generic, and my question is very

Even though, I see no pattern in the reactions of these programs. Both are
running on different computers with different versions of jaws. for this
reason, and perhaps because of my ignorance, I attribute the problem to

As I said in my message. I am running 2 different versions of jaws in both
computers. But I am running both different versions of operated system, and
of course, bot different versions of browser. If the subject line is not
clear. How can I creat a subject line that provides a clear idea about the
topic in my email?
It is a very graphic issue, I can't say every thing, or gives a better

But, I understand that you as moderator needs to keep everything under

My apologizes again, and I will not disturb the list again.

[JAWS-Users] when renaming files, jaws sometimes speaks extra characters

2013-04-12 Thread Joanne
It's actually when I'm doing what you might call and edit/rename. If I want
some of the name to stay as is but I need to add words or perhaps number it, as
I'm looking at the characters--and this is only in the renaming field and not
at other times--Jaws will confuse me by saying things like 0 or semicolon and
then the actual character in the word. It kind of reminds me of when I used to
read my friend's Braille Light and when the display got old it looked like
there were dots underneath the actual words. I am using Jaws 14 but not sure
if my other versions do this as well, but it's almost like Jaws isn't totally
focused on my file when I hit f2 to rename, and like it's seeing other
characters underneath the actual ones. Don't know if I'm making sense but I
wondered if anyone ever had it say other characters before it says the
character it should be saying.

Hope someone can help.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] opening old document

Hi all.
I have an old document that I can no longer open. I think it was made using
MS Word 97 and 2003. I am currently using Windows 7 with JFW 14 and no
longer have MS Word. I have been able to open some .doc files with JART,
but not this particular file. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Washington Nationals and the MLB

2013-04-12 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

This is for Washington Nationals fans that listen to them via the MLB
Network & the WJFK station. A fellow list member needs help on how to set
up his computer to receive the games. He is recovering from some serious
health issues & can't sit at the computer for long periods of time to get it
figured out. He used to get the Nat's games but, for whatever reason, not
any more. Would someone please type some detailed steps for him to follow?
He has both XP & Windows7 operating systems but, is more familiar with XP.
He has tried to get connected but, just can't seem to get the station to
work. All help will be so very greatly appreciated! Thank you all very
much for your assistance. I believe he's running J12 & 13.
Take care.
Mike

WordPad maybe. Notepad no. (If made to, it will read gibberish where it
doesn't understand codes in word.

If the document is not sensitive information, you could email to
someone you know that has MSWord and they could open then save as an
text or PDF file and send back to you

Hi Becky,

Try the following web service:

http://www.robobraille.org/web3/

This is a free service of a danish foundation. Whit it you can not only
convert your document into other text file formats, but into MP3. It is
available in many languages.
