Subject: [JAWS-Users] Ongoing problem with Outlook 2007 using Jaws 14 or

I am trying to identify why Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 64 bit Toshiba
notebook computer does not work properly with either Jaws 14 or Jaws 15
beta. I have spoken to both Fs tech support and Microsoft accessibility
support without any success. The problem is that when I open Outlook 2007
in Jaws 14 or 15 beta Jaws will read emails properly for a while, 3 to 5
minutes or so. However at some point Jaws stops reading emails that are in
html format. Jaws presents them in a strange format with many garbled text
and the html commands such as t to move to tables and h to move to headings
do not work. Instead the letter t or h will appear in the body of the
email. And the cursor key (+ on the numpad) says pc cursor rather than
virtual pc cursor which it says when Jaws is working properly when reading
open html emails. If I close Outlook and reopen it Jaws will work properly
again for a few minutes and then revert to not displaying html emails
correctly.

Fs tech support has been unable to duplicate this problem on their computers
and have received no reports from other Jaws users with my problem. FS had
me completely uninstall Jaws 14 and do a clean reinstall but that did not
eliminate the problem. they also checked all my Jaws 14 settings and they
seem to be working properly.

Microsoft support says it must be a Fs issue since my Outlook 2007
installation looks fine to them. They checked all my settings for Outlook
2007 and nothing they did eliminated the problem. I also ran the Office
diagnostic from the Outlook 2007 help menu and it found no problems with my
Outlook 2007 program.

So I am wondering what could be happening on my system to cause this to
happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg Washington

Re: [JAWS-Users] Scanning and OCR Software

2013-09-18 Thread Bill Pasco
Though it is true you don't (need) a self-voicing program like Open Book
and Kurzweil, there are still advantages to these more expensive packages.
Open Book, for instance, has a number of helpful tools build in to the
interface which make some tasks easier. Examples include, the ability to
do a down and dirty conversion to Braille for export or embossing, I use
this feature frequently, the ability to turn any scanned document into an
audio file for later use on a MP3 player or other such device, the ability
to easily find and down load on-line books to read, the ability to use
reading voices which are more pleasant than Eloquence, while switching
back to eloquence when responsiveness is wanted, the ability to fax or
photo copy any document scanned, and my favorite feature, the ability to
convert graphic Adobe PDF or PowerPoint PPTX graphic to readable text by
just printing the document from Adobe or PowerPoint to the Freedom Import
Printer which automatically launches Open Book and converts then reads the
document to you.

It is expensive, but then so is JAWS. You can do many of these things
using other software, but the combination of them would add up to quite a
bit, where in Open Book it's all in one easy to use interface. In short, I
respect the right of anyone here to choose the solutions they prefer, but
I prefer and really like Open Book.

Bill

Re: [JAWS-Users] Scanning and OCR Software

2013-09-18 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi,

Hmm, interesting, but as I think about this, I'm finding I can already do
most of these things using Windows.

The Braille conversion thing, I don't have any need for that since I can
transfer notes and documents to a handheld device such as cell phone, iPod,
etc. This means I don't need to carry anything brailed on paper since dots
are likely to get crushed, and Braille paper is heavy after so many pages.
Let's not forget that if you want something embossed into Braille, well, you
have an expense into the thousands in your future.

Turning a scanned document into audio, well, this is slow if there is any
information to have to quickly reference 20 pages into the audio recording.
Don't forget you also have to sit and wait for this conversion to audio.

Searching for books online Well, this is not at all difficult and can be
done in a matter of hitting a hotkey to launch a website then pressing
letter E to jump to edit field to search for the book. You will get much,
much more information about the book while on the website rather than
through Open book.

Using "more pleasant voices," well, one can already do this if he or she
chooses to use the newer Vocalizer voices standard in screen readers such as
Jaws and WinEyes.

The faxing is actually a pro I support since it is quite easy using one of
these OCR tools for the blind. Then again, Faxing is not something many
people have to do nowadays, so I'm sure that if I looked I would find a
simple to use Windows application to accomplish this task.

In regards to cost, well, all the stuff I'm currently using is free.

At one point OpenBook allowed for 40 minutes before closing out and
informing the user they must purchase the full version. The great thing
about this is that there was no 30-day trial. Last I tried, Openbook would
not work if one had it for over a month. In other words, FS seems to have
changed something where they initially and very generously allowed for 40
minutes of free scanning, someone seems to have concluded that they
shouldn't do this, and now one can't use OpenBook to scan a few pages of
mail like one could when OpenBook 9 was initially released.

back to eloquence when responsiveness is wanted, the ability to fax or
photo copy any document scanned, and my favorite feature, the ability to
convert graphic Adobe PDF or PowerPoint PPTX graphic to readable text by
just printing the document from Adobe or PowerPoint to the Freedom Import
Printer which automatically launches Open Book and converts then reads the
document to you.

It is expensive, but then so is JAWS. You can do many of these things
using other software, but the combination of them would add up to quite a
bit, where in Open Book it's all in one easy to use interface. In short, I
respect the right of anyone here to choose the solutions they prefer, but
I prefer and really like Open Book.

Hello,
Well, to really activate Mywarebytes Pro you have to pay first..
Then run it and it should say, Mywarebytes Pro, press the tab key to navigate.
Press tab to scan, press the space bar.
Press tab for Full scan or arrow to quick or flash scan.
Press the space bar.

Then, leave it alone, the first couple scans will run about a hour and in time
it will be less.

When the scan is done, press space bar to show results.
Tab twice to show results again.
Tab to remove all infected objected objects, press the space bar.

The Mywarebytes report will start to read, press the shift + tab to bring you
back to the OK button on removing all infected objects and press the space bar.

Press the shift +tab to cycle you back to the Mywarebytes report tex.txt
document.

Use your down arrow to read the report.

You will be surprise on all the problems in your computer Mywarebytes picked up.

When done viewing the report you can save the report to my documents or press

That exit menu sucks and when closes it makes you feel like if you did

It's better to use alt + F4.

[JAWS-Users] Fw: Scanning and OCR Software

2013-09-18 Thread J.Cyr
Bill I understand what you are saying but some of us simply won't use the
majority of those tools, (for example other then the PDF converter I couldn't
or would have no need to use the other tools you listed), so needs and end
usage ought to be factored in. If that complex programme is going to sit there
and not be used then what's the point. Personally I'd like to have a reliable
OCR essentially to read the bills I don't get monthly in Braille. Five years
ago I did want one for other things, but the kind of document I used to want to
scan is increasingly available to me as text PDF downloads which is so much
simpler and faster. (Also accuracy was a big issue in these documents, and
since it was numeric there wasn't any real context in which to check errors.)
So you see a thousand dollar sophisticated software package would be totally
wasted on me. Just something to keep in mind when evaluating a programme and
deciding which one to choose.

Sincerely,
Joy

Hi Alan,

Use Run dialogue to open the following path:
C:\Windows\Installer\

Now look for that specific file. When you find it simply press Shift F10 and
run a scan using Malwarebytes. If it finds anything funky, associated with
that file, simply choose to quarantine. By quarantining rather than
deleting, you can put that file back where it came from in the event you
find Windows needs it. I ran a quick Google search and could not find any
reference to that file, so I'm sorry I can't be more detailed than to tell
you to quarantine for now. I have lots of faith in Malwarebytes and if it
were my computer I would follow Malwarebytes advice and quarantine.

[JAWS-Users] need 2 types of restore programs that are jaws friendly

2013-09-18 Thread Joanne
My friend would like to restore her computer because some programs aren't
working correctly, but when I tried to help her with system restore we
discovered that system restore has never been turned on. I have heard groups
talk about programs like Roll Back, but with these programs shouldn't System
Restore still have been turned on so there'd be restore points for, say, Roll
Back to do its job? Her Outlook 2010 isn't showing anything in any folders,
and she is wanting to restore to an early time. So is this possible with
another program besides System Restore?

She also wants to restore documents that were accidentally deleted from recycle
bin. I have Requva, but if anyone has another Jaws-accessible file restoration
program I would appreciate learning of it.

So looking for a file restoration and some type of computer restoration program
to see if we can get things back to normal.

Thanks.

How about some important information such as OS, screenreader version, etc.

If possible, please ask your friend to join so we can ask questions
directly. this is very helpful in terms of time and detail regarding
troubleshooting.

If system restore has not been turned on then it will not be possible for
her to run a restore. Its like not having money in the bank and wanting to
purchase a new computer.

RollBackRX is an amazing piece of software, but it also can't help her if
she has never installed it. RollBackRX has nothing to do with System
restore. RollBackRX has it's own system of taking snapshots.

Right now, since I can't ask her directly for details, given what you have
conveyed, she will not be able to return her computer to a previously good
working state.

The Recuva idea might work depending on how it is set up. If she has never
installed it, I don't think it will be possible to restore any deleted
files.

In an attempt to help, please describe how she ended up with all this
information deleted.

Joseph

Hi Al & Joseph,

The screenreader, whether it's loading on startup or manually, IE, &, OE
will not start unless you waiit the 4 to 5 minutes but, Notepad, Word& other
programs will start from the desktop shortcuts. I did notice that after
turning off MSSE, to run a scan with a program that required your antivirus
program to be turned off, that with MSSE turned off the computer rebooted /
started just fine but, after loading / starting MSSE the problems with IE,
OE, Jaws / NVDA started reoccuring. Once you wait the 4 to 5 minutes the
computer works flawlessly. Thank you both for your help & interest.

Well, we'll see if you're singing the same tune when you try to do some of
the same things you can do on Windows. . I love the way Apple seems
to just work, but I also don't like its limitations and it's tendency to
leave one wanting more but unable to do anything about it since Apple locks
down its software. Don't forget you're paying much more for an Apple
computer than a Windows computer. Windows applications, though not as
refined as Apple, are incredibly numerous and free for the most part. You
seemed pretty convinced you'll enjoy your Apple computer, and I hope is is
as great an experience as you believe it will be. Most individuals I know
(including blind friends) usually end up installing some sort of Windows
emulation software. In other words, "they all come right back to where they
started."

Just letting you all know I'll be unsubscribing in the next month or so.
The reason for this, is I'm very unimpressed with the new jaws 15 so called
features. I feel they are just enhancements, to what is already there, and
not new features at all. I feel there is false advertising going on here,
and we shouldn't have to pay for enhancements. The mac's screen reader is
built in and you don't have to pay any extra for it. You save money in the
long run not having to pay for accessibility and updates to it. Join the out
of the box accessibility revolution!!!
Also, windows is more prone to viruses and if you have an iphone, the mac
works better with it anyway.
So bye, thanks to everyone who has helped me over the years, when i've had
jaws issues, hope you all have a blessed day
God bless,
Andrew.

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows defender vs. super antivirusMywarebytes Rules...

2013-09-18 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi Joseph,
Within the mywarebytes report, follow the path to that file and manually delete
it.

Some of these files and folders are in the registery or the bios.

And I don't know how to search there and making a mistake could make your PC
run bad?

Do you copy the file and go the run... or the Windows find and paste in the
file and press enter.

I have a nice bunch of files I would like to delete myself.

Thanks Mister Free Tech.

Re: [JAWS-Users] need 2 types of restore programs that are jaws friendly

2013-09-18 Thread Jose
Hi joann the follwoing link may help restore her email folders.. note, I
said mighte..
http://powerphil.wordpress.com/2011/02/11/how-to-recover-email-after-deleted-windows-live-mail-account/#content
it's for windows live, don't know that it would apply to her. only other
way could be costly, it would involve restoring the file by using softwhere
that can find the file on the disk.

Kind of like what the F.B.I. OR cops use.
I am pretty shore there are placess that can resolve this problem. it
all depends on how badf she wants her data back.

If you want i can reserch it, and send you some choices. but I have neverr
used any of these servicess and can't be responsable for there work.

Good luck.

PS u may try posting your question on the forum that the link I posted above
takes you to.

If system restore comes up with no info. Then there will be nothing
to restore to until its turned on and you get to make one.

At 05:44 PM 9/18/2013, you wrote:
My friend would like to restore her computer because some programs aren't
working correctly, but when I tried to help her with system restore we
discovered that system restore has never been turned on. I have heard
groups talk about programs like Roll Back, but with these programs
shouldn't System Restore still have been turned on so there'd be restore
points for, say, Roll Back to do its job? Her Outlook 2010 isn't showing
anything in any folders, and she is wanting to restore to an early time.
So is this possible with another program besides System Restore?

She also wants to restore documents that were accidentally deleted from
recycle bin. I have Requva, but if anyone has another Jaws-accessible file
restoration program I would appreciate learning of it.

So looking for a file restoration and some type of computer restoration
program to see if we can get things back to normal.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows defender vs.super antivirusMywarebytes Rules...

2013-09-18 Thread Jorge Rivas
Joseph,
Most of the time Mywarebytes will tell me:

Mywarebytes just blocked a malicious website In comimming or Out going and it
says, 191.6543.211 for example.

Now, I am lost on what should be my next step, so I just continue on and trust
Mywarebytes.

But, one thing for some reason I can't get the address of the malicious website
to repeat so I can copy & paste the address to get some info on it.

Oh, one more thing:
This PC is my everyday junk computer and the large majority of the emails are
from three clubs I belong to;my guess is coming from there..

The one that bugs me more is the out going malicious website?

Is that coming from me?

Thank you Free Tech.

Jorge

Joseph,

Thanks. This is on my wife's computer so could not follow the path as I
believe she has not enabled show hidden folders/files. This is the path a
looks like an optional tool bar to me?

C:\Windows\Installer\60f40de.msi (PUP.Optional.AskToolbar) -> No action
taken.

Comments? Should it be removed or is it harmless to leave

Within the malwarebytes report, follow the path to that file and manually
delete it. Before deleting it, Press Shift F10 and scan again using the
Malwarebytes item.

Excellent directions. Do you have to select or unselect actions you want
taken? I had one file which when I clicked remove it said all malicious
items removed or something like that. However when reviewing the report it
listed one file with a problem but stated no action taken. How do I get rid
of this one file?

Hello,
Well, to really activate Mywarebytes Pro you have to pay first..
Then run it and it should say, Mywarebytes Pro, press the tab key to
navigate.
Press tab to scan, press the space bar.
Press tab for Full scan or arrow to quick or flash scan.
Press the space bar.

Then, leave it alone, the first couple scans will run about a hour and in
time it will be less.

When the scan is done, press space bar to show results.
Tab twice to show results again.
Tab to remove all infected objected objects, press the space bar.

The Mywarebytes report will start to read, press the shift + tab to bring
you back to the OK button on removing all infected objects and press the
space bar.

Press the shift +tab to cycle you back to the Mywarebytes report tex.txt
document.

Use your down arrow to read the report.

You will be surprise on all the problems in your computer Mywarebytes picked
up.

When done viewing the report you can save the report to my documents or
press alt + F4 twice to close Mywarebytes.

That exit menu sucks and when closes it makes you feel like if you did
something wrong.

It's better to use alt + F4.

Enjoy, this is a great product.

Jorge
