Re: [JAWS-Users] in setting up adobe reader, what things should I do to make it work best with Jaws 15?
Hi Mike, I followed the entire tread on this mail. I notice that, if protected view in accessibility technical system is enable when trying to read a PDF doc, the jaws narrator said, I had to disable the accessibility technical system for the adobe reader to work properly and spoke some directions that I didn't get. Maybe, that's why he's not getting any feedback from the reader like me??? If, anyone knows how to disable the accessibility technical system , can you please expain how to disable it. Hi Jim, I found a note from when I asked how to assign files to programs. The notes are below: Hi All, How do you assign / associate file types to be opened with specific programs in Windows7? I went to Tools / Options & didn't find the File Types tab / page! Where is it?! LOL LOL Do you use the context menu exclusively to assign / associate file types with specific programs in Widows7? If the File Types Tab / Page exists, would someone please tell me where it is? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take care. Mike From: Ann Byrne Type "file association" in the search window, and you'll be deposited there. Ann From: Joni Colver In Windows 7 I typed file extension into the search box. I arrowed down to make a file type always open in a specific program. I entered on that. I chose dot doc files. Word 2010 was the default. I chose WordPad. When I opened a doc file there was gibberish. I then went back and chose Jarte. Now when I enter on a doc file it opens and is readable in Jarte. Thanks for asking the question Mike because now it is easier to open my multitude of doc files! Rather than opening Jarte and using the open dialog I can just enter on a doc file and it opens in Jarte. Re: [JAWS-Users] canthi 20-digit authorization be retrieved without using a disc
Yes and not like now when you deactivated or removed a key back then it got put back on the floppy which wish FS would consider doing that again even with the new set up so when need to swap out hard drives or change computers and hardware can remove the key back on to the server and then use it again and again as needed instead of having to justify a reset of the keys. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Ryan West Sent: Friday, December 13, 2013 11:14 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] canthe 20-digit authorization be retrieved without using a disc Hello Stanley, I remember those days and each time you used an activation it was removed from your floppy disk. Re: [JAWS-Users] can the 20-digit authorization be retrieved without using a disc
David and Stanley, We, the longtime JAWS Users, got the JAWS floppies in a very eloquently designed plastic or vinyl packaging that was very well presented. The floppies securely were separated and placed into separate pockets for each disk. This must have been expensive but a good eye catching promotion for the sighted whom we worked with or the people who saw our software and training tapes. Just a little history from back in the mid 1990's and JAWS 2.0 for those of us on the JAWS Users... In the old time, my JAWS came on a 3.5 floppy disk and had recorded cassettes for the tutorials/training. If I remember, there was either a file on another disk I received or a braille or print of the authorization key and maybe I created the braille. Why this history? Well, whenever I upgrade my version of JAWS, I have to look up my authorization and type it in. One other laugh to some, I still use my Braille-n-Speak 2000 and that is where I keep my key (smiles). I had that just happen to me today in fact. This really started back in 2011 when I got my laptop, and discovering some of my jaws disks were mixed up with another's, did nothing but create havoc. FS did give me my correct 20 digit number back then, but remember the other day when, I posted regarding getting a Jaws authorization message, and that if not activated, Jaws would be running in 40 minute mode? Well, that happened not because of a dead battery, but because somewhere the other 20 digit number not mine was still in the system, and when the rightful owner updated their SMA, it showed up on my laptop as well, but it wasn't showing my serial number, but a different one. I spoke to Dennis awhile ago and he was very helpful to help me remove the wrong 20 digit number and put in my number, then after a brief pause, the system on their end updated and is now showing my serial number. So be careful when updating, if your not sure of your serial or 20 digit number, you could end up experiencing what happened to me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 9 and Windows 7
Hi. The first version of jaws that worked with Windows 7, was Jaws 11, but here you still have the same problem with the system tray when pressing insert+f11. There was also problems with announcing the shut down icon, when pressing the Windows-key and than arrow right once. Insert+arrow up could solve this, but all this bug's was solved in Jaws 12, and now the actual version is Jaws 15, optimized for Windows 8.1. You can try NVDA or Narrator, NVDA is free, and Narrator is build into Windows, but from my point of view, Jaws does the best work. I have tried rebooting and repairing the instalation using the Jaws 9.0 program CD, but nothing has helped. I even changed the theme to Windows 7 basic theme. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix the problem? Other problems In Windows 7, when I press insert f11 to look at the system tray, Jaws says that it could not find the list of task tray icons. In certain programs, I cannot see certain parts of the screen, evenn with the Jaws cursor. For example the Instantbird messaging program will not update me as to the connection status, whether connecting, not connected, username sent, password sent, or the amount of time connected, while with Windows XP all this information is spoken directly with no problems. Re: [JAWS-Users] can the20-digit authorization be retrievedwithout using a disc
I'll tell you one thing, better make sure that 20 digit belongs to you and not someone else..
I'm afraid you will have to upgrade your SMA to JAWS 15 because JAWS 9, as you were informed by FS, will not work with Windows 7. Unfortunately, updating from JAWS 9 to 15 could be an expensive proposition. [JAWS-Users] IM client recommendation
First of all, thanks to the person who put the Jaws programs list together. It is very helpful. I have found a program that I feel should be added to the list: the Instantbird messaging client. It brings all your IM contacts on different networks all together into one place. Trust me on this, I've tried many many messaging clients and Instantbird is by far the easiest to use and most accessible and the lightest for all the features it gives. I can even edit the about:config advanced settings easily with no problems, using Jaws version 9.. Re: [JAWS-Users] can the 20-digit authorization be retrievedwithout using a disc
Actually, this thread brings up a good point. How do you get it if you should loose the authorization CD? I know FS will give it to you. But what about an authorization CD? Would they send you one? If you are a geek and know how to do it, could you still make one? Interesting points I've thought of, but never really asked. Thankfully I still have the CD I made during the time of Vista and it still works. But just out of curiousity I ask.
