[JAWS-Users] setting up a windows 8.1 computer, using jaws as your screen reader.

2014-09-09 Thread jim rawls
Hi all,

I understand that W8 is a little different than W7. I want it to be as easy as
possible to use using jaws. Where are the best directions to set up a W8.1
computer
using jaws 15? Thanks in advance for your help.

2014-09-09 Thread Trish
Hi,

Well, it is a busy site. I found an accessibility link and clicked on that, it
was after that stuff about zooming l/r and dragging...
I also put like ladies jeans in the search box, then tab to one of those links.
I went to the one, today's specials and entered on it, it did give me some info
on ladies PJ's and a cargo jacket, it wanted my zip code to narrow it to the
nearest store, you might try to do that since this is in Canada.
Also, I found several 800 numbers for help on making purchases as well as
placing orders, if all else fails, make them work for you call them up explain
your situation and you need help.

Helo Pati,
I am using word 2013, but it must be similar to 2010.
Go to the ribbons with alt. Then right arrow to 'presentation'or 'format'
(My word is in Spanish so I am not sure how it might be transllated).
Down arrow to upen that menu and right arrow until you find 'convert text
to' or something like that.

I hope this helps.

Is it possible that certain sites could have moved to a form of flash in the

There is a long list of options for Outlook 2010 which I cannot seem to

I use JAWS 14, Win. 7 and Outlook 2010. When I enter on a message in the In

Re: [JAWS-Users] combo boxes

2014-09-09 Thread Anthony06
Hi Flor,

I have Firefox as my default browser on my home computer, it was on FF that
I first noticed the problem. Tried IE 64 bit with similar result. I only
have Jaws 15, but have tried it using NVDA. Have tried the usual restarts
and the like.

What I find is when I initially enter and ALT down-arrow on the Combo, in
Firefox it states read only edit. When I tab away and tab back, it has an
entry. Example: Country of residence: random selection: Albania as I arrow
down, it continuously repeats Albania. If I tab away and tab back, the
country has changed. Example: Denmark.

This occurs with both Jaws and NVDA, although I wouldn't be used to working
with NVDA. The difficulty is that the form I am attempting to fill in must
be completed in a certain number of minutes or it refreshes.

I believe it may be a specific type of form, or there is some security
feature applicable as I am able to access combo boxes on other sites
without difficulty.

Regards

Louis

I know this topic came up some weeks ago. However, in the past two
 days I
experienced similar difficulties in opening combo boxes. It is on a
 secure
site, a bank, where I have an account and they have recently updated
 their
 pages.

I am running JAWs 14, Windows 7 and have tried accessing it with
 Firefox and
IE. With FF I locate the combo box, hit enter for forms mode, then alt
 down
arrow. Jaws speaks: Read only. In IE, I have it set up so that forms
 mode
is automatic, so I hit Alt and Down Arrow. Jaws responds with a
 Blank. I
know that the fields are working as when I type Ireland into the
 select
country combo, it is there. However, it is impossible to guess the
 options
 in the other boxes.

I have also tried NVDA without success. Any ideas?

 Louis

The proper key stroke for the choices in a combo box is Alt+downArrow

Anna, I'm not using JAWS 15, but what happens if you press
 control+down
arrow when you're situated on a combobox?

I’m pretty sure this has come up before, but is it possible to create headings
in ms word, so that I can simply go to a heading by hitting h, as in ie?
