Hi Fred,

That, yes / no dialogue, might be Jaws asking yu if you want to create a
new settings file for the application you're working in since 1 hasn't been
created yet in a freshly formatted OS & it hasn't been created for Outlook
with J16. If you route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, press the page up
key, & down arrow reading 1 line at a time you might get more information
as to what this yes / no dialogue is saying. HTH Take care.

I am using W7, Outlook 2010 and latest jaws. I installed jaws 16 on my
computer a couple of days ago and everything seemed fine until today. Today
when I go to JCS settings by pressing insert 6 jaws does not show any check
boxes as checked or unchecked. I have checked all of my settings but I
can't find anything to correct this. Jaws also just says buttons or yes or
no instead of OK button or Cancel button. I would appreciate any help on
this as I am baffeled. Thanks much,

Hello. I am using jaws 16 and windows 7 and windows live mail. I opened my

I do some tech work, unless you have a copy of Windows 7 32-bit already and
just want to do it, sure. But, it isn't worth it, otherwise.

If you need to buy a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, you can find
them for $90 on Amazon. I don't think you can do an in-place upgrade with
an OEM copy. So, you'll need to backup your laptop, then re-format and
install Windows 7.

If you are going to pay a tech to do this, you're probably looking at a
couple hours.

You'd be better off buying a refurbished Windows 7 Home Premium laptop.
I've seen some for $150 or so and possibly higher if you want better specs.

You can see if your laptop will run Windows 7 by running the Microsoft
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor which you can dowload at
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20

It will show you hardware specs, what if any software drivers may not work
in Windows 7.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Well, suppose you tell at least how to see what items it has identified as
threats, Pups, Pumps etc. That part of the program doesn't appear to be
very accessible.

I had to export the log file when I ran it a couple weeks ago. I don't
particularly like the idea of quarantining things that I don't know what it
is trying to kill. Sometimes, it tries to kill a legit program.

Try accessing this through the system tray, or notification area. It should
tell you there that 2 issues have been detected. Once in the action center,
you should have options for security and maintenance. Try one or the other
to find and remedy the problem, you may have to go through the process
again if the issue is not in the first item that you select. I have never
figured out how to determine if the issues are security issues or
maintenance issues, so there is a bit of trial and error involved.

Re: [JAWS-Users] vista laptop and wind7 home

2014-11-10 Thread Steve
I should add, Kathy, that Vista will have security updates into at least
mid-2016. Windows 7 is until early 2020 as I recall, and with the market
penetration of Windows 7, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it got extended
as XP's life cycle got extended.

Next year, we'll see Windows 10 get released. I assume the next release of
Jaws will have the ability to work with the new features in Windows 10. It
should be nicer, from what I've read, than Windows 8. So, you can always
save money and use your current laptop and get something newer in a year or
so that will support all the features of the newer Windows including
touchscreen gestures; which would not be available at all on your older
machine.

[JAWS-Users] automatic maintence

2014-11-10 Thread anna vimini

hi Mike,
Automatic maintenance is not in my system tray so I have to go into
action center and when I click on one or more issues for me to review
nothing happens .
it does not put up a list of issues all it says in the notification area
is that the automatic maintenance was delayed and when I start the
maintenance it says no issues but when the automatic maintenance stops
it goes back to saying that automatic maintenance was delayed

do you know how I can fix this so it says no issues?
thanks in advance

Re: [JAWS-Users] automatic maintence

Try accessing this through the system tray, or notification area. It
should tell you there that 2 issues have been detected. Once in the
action center,
you should have options for security and maintenance. Try one or the
other to find and remedy the problem, you may have to go through the
process again
if the issue is not in the first item that you select. I have never
figured out how to determine if the issues are security issues or
maintenance issues,

so there is a bit of trial and error involved.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 help

2014-11-10 Thread John Justice
Ann,
You can create new rules easily when using the later versions of Outlook. I
am referring to the e-mail sorting capability. Other rules and alerts can
be created.

CREATING A RULE IN MICROSOFT OUTLOOK:
1. Focus on the message on which you would like to create a rule. I use
rules to divide the messages and send them to folders.

2. Press the Applications key or use Shift F10.

3. Down arrow until you hear "Create Rule" and press Enter on that option.

4. Outlook gives you several options you can use which includes simply
sending that particular message directly to a folder. To create a rule, tab
until you hear something like, "When I get messages from, - - - -" Edit that
information until you have only what you need to sort the message. For
example, "jaws-users-boun...@jaws-users.com" Further along in the same
dialog, is a checkbox indicating "Subject Contains". Using this option, you
can edit the information to look for specific contents in the Subject field
of any message. For example, I choose the name of the e-mail list and edit
the field so that only that information is shown.

5. Continue tabbing until you locate the checkbox indicating "Move To
Folder" and press spacebar to put a check there.

6. As soon as you check that option, you will be able to tab to a folder
list. Press Enter on the folder name you would like to use.
If you need to create a new folder, be sure to move up until you reach the
top of your list marked "Personal Folders". If you Shift Tab at that point,
you'll reach the "New" option. Press Enter and add the folder name when
prompted. In this way, your new folder will be a part of the main list, not
a sub-folder created within an existing folder.

7. The focus will be returned to the option marked "Move To Folder". Tab
carefully through and make sure that the correct folder is chosen. Tab to
Okay and press Enter. You may be asked if you'd like to apply the new rule
to already existing messages. Press Enter and the new rule will be applied
to the contents of your In Basket.

IMPORTED RULES:
There are rare occasions when a rule created in Outlook Express will work in
Outlook but in most cases, they do not.
One of the functions you will find in the Rules option is something called
"Manage Rules and Alerts". If you press Enter on this function, you will
eventually come to a list of rules. You can delete any of those old Outlook
rules here. You may need to use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons if
your list is extensive. When you press the Delete key, you will be asked to
confirm your choice.
In this section, you can also activate any or all of the rules you have
created manually.

MESSAGE CONTENT DISPLAYED:
The Outlook defaults will usually provide most of the information you are
looking for unless the View settings have been changed. Ann, be very
careful with these settings. It is possible to inadvertently create a
situation where your messages will not be read at all. There is a "Restore
To Default" option.
The condition of your screen will often determine how much information is
being shown. When you open Outlook, make sure that the display is set on
Full Screen, not Restored or one of the other options.
You mentioned the .pst file. That file stores your Outlook environment. It
contains a list of your folders and any other view options you may have
chosen. The file is updated every time you open and close Outlook. I
recommend that you do a file search and save a copy of the .pst file to
another location before making any changes in the View settings. In that
way, you can go back to the original by importing the .pst file you have
saved. That is a fallback for you if you run into trouble with the settings
in the View tab. The Import and Export options are located under the File
tab on your navigation ribbon.

I hope that this helps you, Ann. Someone else may have already answered
your questions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] automatic maintence

2014-11-10 Thread Mike Boyd

Sorry Anna,

This is something that I do not see in my system tray. I only see "Toolbar
Solve PC Issues:", and then it will say "1 messages button". From here I
press the enter key to get to the Action Center, then click on either
Security or Maintenance to see what the problem is. It is usually something
simple that needs to be addressed.
