Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and OpenBook version 7

2015-02-22 Thread Mike B.
Hi Linda,

I had to get a 64 bit disk from Freedom Scientific before Openbook8 would
work on my Win7 64 bit computer. Is your computer 64 or 32 bit? If your
computer is 64 bit, maybe something happened along the line where the 64 bit
disk wasn't necessary any more for Openbook8 to run on a Win7 64 bit system.
All I know, which isn't much, was having to wait for that disk before I
could run OB8 on my computer.
Take care.

Hi Joanne,
Knowing what clock you are referring to would be extremely helpful.
Your system clock can be read with Jaws using the Jaws key + F12.

I hope this is Jaws-related, and maybe it's more of a techy thing but I
have

tried so many suggestions and this simply won't work the way it should. I
have been to the help page and downloaded startup manager but I don't even

my clock to the startup menu so that when I boot up the computer the clock
is running, just like Jaws is set to run at startup. Does someone have
specific instructions on how to do this? I tried adding it in startup

even see a full list that includes Jaws anywhere I've looked in Startup.

[JAWS-Users] How accessible is the VLC Media Player?

2015-02-22 Thread Flor Lynch
Hi,

There are a lot of keyboard shortcuts, but... I’m looking to have VLC Media
Player stream Internet radio such as that on ShoutCast.com, which is supposed
to be feasible. However, using JAWS16 I can’t find a way to effect it. (JAWS
isn’t reading several of the controls, by the looks of things.) I can get it to
play files from a CD and on my own computer fine. BBC Radio is moving to
streaming in HLS and a few related formats, at least the first of which the VLC
Player is able to handle. Indeed, I can stream Internet anything with it at the
moment. Any ideas anyone? (I’m uusing good broadband.)

Yes, it would drive you to it, right enough.

I think we can put it down to Windows xP's being officialy dead. Did you
investigate the scripts blocking setting in Firefox that was mentioned on
the other list? Though being honest, I know that Windows xP cannot cut the
mustard now through some of these security thingies.

Have you rebooted the computer to see if this takes care of the problem?
Try using, Insert + up arrow, in the 6 pack of keys between the numpad &

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 issue

Hi Kimber & Teresa,

There is something called,Hhardware Graphics Acceleration, in Word, & you
can read about it below.

From:
Jean Menzies via Jfw
Just thought I'd share this for those who want to try it.

The symptom. I've often found sluggish performance in Word when searching,
or when opening a second document. Jaws seems to either not be able to read
a screen without refreshing, or, in searching, it would sometimes take two
tries to get to the results. Just plain sluggish.

In going through settings, I came across an option to "Disable Hardware
Graphics Acceleration". I checked that and things seem to be much more
responsive
now. I'll see how the day goes. But if anyone wants to do this, go into
Options, Advanced, and the item is in there. If you use the, Alt + G
keystroke,
you'll get to it much quicker. From what I read on Google, if you change it
in one MS program, it should affect all of them. Hey, I don't need graphics
anyway. haha.
Hope this works.
Jean
Note From Mike B.: My settings wouldn't stick until I checked the, prompt to
update style, checkbox. To get to this checkbox the keystroke is, Alt + Y.

Hi Jean & Ted,

I went into my MS Word 2010 & played around with these 2 settings a little
bit & what I found was, sometimes they would hold & sometimes not. So, when
I found that they were both checked after a few attempts of saving these
settings again,I got the hell out with the escape key! LOL LOL

Note: I'm not sure but, it might make a difference in which order you check
these options. I've got mine saved now &, don't want to play around
anymore.

From: Adrian Spratt
The order in which you make settings turns out to be crucial in Word, as I
discovered yesterday while tinkering with page numbers. I first set the page
number location, then separately suppress the number on the first page,
where the headings are. When I later tried to change the page number
position,
nothing happened until I un-checked the "different page" setting that
suppressed the number on the first page.

Microsoft Office 2013 is great software for Windows 8 and I am guessing that

Hello Kevin,

If you only have one list then you can use the shift and down arrow to
select the lines to change. Press CTRL+Shift+n to replace the list style
with the Normal style. This will remove indentation so you might need to go
into the paragraph dialog box to set indentation again if you want to keep
it.

One quick way to replace all bulleted lists in your document is to replace
the style used for the lists. If bullets were installed through the ribbon
choices then the style is "List paragraph." This style indents the
paragraph, and text starts at 1.5 inches from the left edge of the paper or
one half inch in from the default one inch margin. If bullets are inserted
using the CTRL+Shift+l keystroke then the style is "List bullet" and text
starts at 1.25 inches from the left edge of paper or 0.25 inches from left
margin. Use insert key (caps lock key in laptop configuration) with F and
listen for the style used. The "List paragraph" is the more common style
used so if you want to retain the indentation then you replace it with the
"Normal indent" style. Otherwise replace it with the "Normal style" and
indentation will be removed and text will start at the default one inch
margin. Here is how you can use Find and Replace for this purpose:

1. Press CTRL key with h. Focus will be in the Find What page of the
dialog box.
2. Tab and if you find a "More" button use spacebar. If it is a button
for which JAWS says "less" do not use spacebar.
3. Use shift with tab back to the "Find what" edit box.
4. Route JAWS cursor to PC cursor, do a page down, and then press home
key. Read the current word to make sure focus is on the Format button.
5. Press left mouse button (second key from the left on the top row of
the number pad) to launch the Format menu and then turn on PC cursor. Use
up arrow to the Style menu item and press enter key.
6. Press the first letter of the style to be replaced until you find
it. You are looking for either List Paragraph or List Bullet style. Press
enter key on the name of the style to be replaced and focus goes back to the
Find What box.
7. Tab to the Replace with control.
8. Route JAWS to PC cursor, do a page down followed by a home key, and
do a left mouse button click on the format button. Turn PC cursor on again.
9. Up arrow to the Style choice and press enter key.
10. Use the letter N until you find the normal or normal indent style
and press enter key.
11. Tab to the Replace All button and press spacebar. Word will tell
you how many occurrences of the style it replaced. Each list will be one
occurrence of the style. Press spacebar on the OK button to return to the
document.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and sleep mode

2015-02-22 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jason,

Pay close attention to step #6 for your situation.
These are steps on how you can put Jaws into sleep mode, take Jaws out of
sleep mode or, make any other changes in the Settings Center for any program
installed on your computer without
the particular / target program running. Below are steps using Openbook as
the example & putting Jaws into sleep mode. When you shift + tab into
the application list & find the application you want, you need to tab 1 time
into the Settings Center for that application. Pressing enter on the
application closes the Settings Center. So, here is how I accessed the
Openbook Settings Center:
1. While in Outlook Express I pressed Insert key + 6, on the number row
above the main keyboard to open the Outlook Express Settings Center.
2. I invoked the keystroke, shift + tab, to get into the application list.
3. I pressed the letter O, until I had Openbook highlighted.
4. I tabbed 1 time into the Openbook Settings Center.
5. I Typed, sleep, into the search edit field & waited a few seconds for the
list to populate & arrowed down to Sleep Mode . miscellaneous.
6. Now, right here the spacebar needs to be pressed to toggle the options
until Jaws reports, sleep mode enable and unload the synthesizer but, in
your case you want Jaws to report, Disable.
7. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save
your changes & close.

HTH
Take care.

John,

If it's the Infomation Bar, more about that in a moment.

Does JAWS say 'link' when on the title's graphic? Sometimes ctrl and
spacebar can open a menu undefined by JAWS or a 'box'. There is already a
separate site called Dropbox, so it's best to avoid loose terms like that
one. My first thought was of a combo box, which you would open with
alt+DownArrow.

Also, pres alt-n to bring up the Information Bar (probably that could be
it). Then Allow once or Allow Always, depending on your choice, which you
press space then may arrow to. Then you might enter or double-click to
confirm.

I'm using jaws v16. For some reason the search for jaws commands using
jaws key spacebar and the letter j isn't working correctly. As soon as I
type a letter on the keyboard jaws announces "no results." I'm not sure
what's happening to cause this reaction.

Re: [JAWS-Users] drop boxes

2015-02-22 Thread john
Thanks for reply. I don't think an information bar appears, and alt + n did
not bring it on. My sighted friend says when she move the mouse cursor over
the graphic a list appears, and when the cursor goes off the graphic the
list disappears. I used the term drop box incorrectly, but it definitely is
not a combo box and alt+ down arrow does not bring it on. Jaws does say
only the number of the graphic, certainly not a list of links. I also tried
insert + f3, and clicked on graphics and then the specific graphic, but
nothing happened. Appreciate any other thoughts.

Then you might enter or double-click to
confirm.

Hi list. I was trying to download an audio book from a website and could

options including a download link. I have tried both the Jaws cursor and
Pc cursor but cannot access this. There is no shortcut key ie "d" to use,
and the links list does not include the dropbox. I am using JFW13 and

anyone suggest any solutions. Thanks in advance.
