[JAWS-Users] listing directory/folder
I'm trying to use Karen's Directory Printer to get the listing of a directory/folder, but I'm not sure what to uncheck or, to make it simpler, leave checked. I just want whatever the filenames are in a folder. and I also want to save it to disk, but it seems that I have to change the location of where I want the text files to save to every time. is there a way to set a path as the default location? the documentation is not helpful. I don't know how you can find a block sender list in outlook. hi Liuda, Every email you reply to that person's name/email address will go into your safe senders list, even your own can appear. Whenever you block an email or send it to the junk folder, it will show in the block sender's list. If you ever wish to remove someone from this list, you arrow to that name, then can press Alt R I believe the instructions given you didn't right arrow enough to get to the right tab page list. The first one is like general where you can set how much filtering you want so spam and anything else you don't recognize will be filtered to the junk folder. This is good and bad, cause sometimes it puts safe people there too. Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG Virus protection
Just because it doesn't find anything doesn't ipso facto mean it is not working or is bad. You can confirm this by doing a scan with an on-line scanner periodically. The likelihood of getting a virus often is dependent on several factors. If you do a lot of file-sharing particularly on torrent sites, practice other stupid habits like opening links from unknown emails, not checking shortened links with a link examining program like http://longurl.org/ and open unexpected atta chments, you are more likely to encounter a virus. Secondly, some anti-virus programs find a lot more things they identify as viruses that aren't; these are known as false positives. Look on the web for third-party virus testing labs that often rank the effectiveness of both paid and free anti-virus programs. If you do some of the questionable practices noted above, you'll want a very good program with advanced heuristics; you may even put up with one that may score higher on false positives. As I've stated before, I value accessibility and something that isn't a hog on system resources. I feel comfortable using MSSE and feel comfortable recommending it to my customers unless I know they are or tend to engage in riskier activities. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype
There's nothing remotely visual about this process. You have one of two options for doing this. The first option is, as David pointed out, going through the Skype interface, and unchecking the box which says to run Skype when Windows Starts. I believe there's one more box to uncheck, something about including Skype to call service with your internet browser, but don't quote me on that. The second method, is to run the MSCONFIG utility on your computer. Type in msconfig in the run dialog box and press enter. In the resulting dialog box, control+tab to the services tab, and arrow down the list and uncheck everything you see wit the word Skype in it. Once done, control+tab to the start-up tab, and again, arrow through the list of checkboxes, and uncheck all the items with the word Skype in it. Once done, tab to the apply button, and press the spacebar. Press shift+tab a few times until you get to the ok button, and press the spacebar again. At this point, you may or may not be prompted to re-start your computer. Feel free to accept or decline this offer. From this point on, when you turn on your computer, Skype with not start automatically, as soon as your computer boots up. Hope this helps. [JAWS-Users] MalwareBytes Pro Myth and Anti-Virus Recommendations
Just a note on the anti-virus discussion. I think it was yesterday that possibly Cliff recommended using malwarebytes Professional as an anti-virus program. Two points on this: First, unless the latest iteration of malwarebytes has improved accessibility, I don't like its interface. They completely broke accessibility in version 2.0, they did improve it in 2.0.4 but you have to go through hoops to view the log of what it proposes to delete. I don't want it recognizing a program I use as a PUP and then deleting or quarantining it. You have to export the log to notepad in order to see it. Not good last time I used that. Second, MalwareBytes Pro recognizes a lot of zero-day exploits, but it is not, as I understand it, intended as a substitute for an anti-virus program. Their spokesperson stated as such in a Lifehacker article, where he pointed out that it wasn't aiming at the traditional anti-virus market. See http://lifehacker.com/the-difference-between-antivirus-and-anti-malware-and-1176942277 As for AVG, it really isn't much better than MSSE. I'll link to an article which has a link to the AV Comparatives test of some of the anti-virus programs. Their top-rated anti-virus programs are Avast! and Bit-Defender. I haven't used Avast in awhile so can't comment on its accessibility, but it had a more complex layout. Their second-ratedd product, Bit Defender, scored nearly as highly for basic anti-virus protection but doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Avast had. I haven't evaluated Bit Defender in several years, so I don't know if the program is accessible. I used to get my jollies evaluating different AV programs for accessibility, but now that some of them are more complicated to uninstall and I don't always have a pair of eyes to go into safe mode or click a button with the mouse within thirty seconds...well, you get the picture. Here's the link to the article: http://lifehacker.com/5865356/the-best-antivirus-app-for-windows Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
