Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading Jaws Help DAISY files
Hi George, I tried this and it only seems to deal with updates to the Jaws program itself, not missing training modules. It said I was all updated, which is correct for my Jaws version, but I know I have training modules I have not yet downloaded. With Jaws 14 and before, it was exactly as you say and I liked having the choice because there are modules I didn't want. Maybe an eventual FS Reader 4 will bring us back this good feature of FS2. I train other blind people who really need these and don't yet have the skills to do loads of downloading. Easy access to training materials matter less for me, but beginning Jaws users should have all the training modules available in the easiest way possible. When I tell them that these modules are a great resource, but unfortunately, they will have to do 20 individual downloads to get them, it is not the right message to pass along. Hi All, Despite my subject line, this issue occurs in both outlook 2010 and 2013 so ... There are times when I receive an email with an attachment, but no matter what I do I am unable to either find or locate that attachment. Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading Jaws Help DAISY files
Hi David, If you download the training material thru FS Reader, then you can select only the modules you want. Also, there is nothing else to do, they will download and install on their own, no navigation is required. The help files are installed by default, and are accessible in the usual manner. Re: [JAWS-Users] Unable to locate an attachment in outlook 13
Hello Kimber, If the Email senders are using Microsoft Exchange and are using the RTF format instead of HTML, this might be the reason the items are embedded in the body of the message instead of showing in the attachments list. Two things that the Email senders might check are found in the Outlook mail options. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T. In the mail category there is a combo box that determines whether composed messages are in HTML, RTF or text by default. This should be set to HTML. Also in the mail options there is a combo box When sending messages in rich text format to Internet recipients and this should be set to Convert to HTML format. When the message being sent is converted to HTML the embedded object is changed to an attachment in the attachments list. When you receive an embedded file sent as an attachment by a sender using RTF and Exchange you quite often can position the focus in the message, route JAWS to PC and arrow up or down looking for the word attachment. A right mouse click using the third key from the left on the top row of the number pad will give the contextual menu for saving the attachment, opening it, etc. Quite often there can be an extra attachment in the body of the message, which is a certifying message. You might need to turn on unrestricted movement of the JAWS cursor or even use Mouse Down commands to find these attachments. If the Email senders can make sure they are sending HTML or that the RTF files are being converted to HTML when sent, this should work best for you. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading Jaws Help DAISY files
Hi George, I don't want to belabor the point too much, and I have no problem with the FS Reader 3 interface for myself, but the training modules should be as easy to navigate as possible for people who, after all, are new Jaws users. To access the training files with FS Reader 3, users must already understand navigation with headings. Then they have to download, going through the dialogue box one typically runs into when doing such things. This is of course second nature to those already used to Jaws, but baffling for new users. A person should not have to understand HTML navigation before he/she can access basic training materials. It's like saying you have to learn to run before crawling. I learned Jaws about 10 years ago with CD's played on a boom box, and having it all installed on the computer is a massive improvement, but the training modules were far easier to access for beginners prior to FS Reader 3. The basic training modules are a fantastic resource for beginners, but if they can't be easily accessed, this reduces their usefulness to the people who need them most.
