Re: [JAWS-Users] windows enter

2015-06-19 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Petras,

Do you by any chance have sticky keys turned on? You can press the left
shift key five times quickly to turn on or off sticky keys. The resulting
dialog box will ask if you want sticky keys on and you can choose yes or no.
If sticky keys are on then when you press the Windows key and release it,
the key is actually still held down so when you press the enter key you are
actually using Windows key with enter. However, if the modifier keys remain
pressed after you release them then the same should be happening when you
use the CTRL, Alt and caps lock keys. To test this try pressing the Windows
key one time and take your finger off of it. Press the letter U to see if
you go to the ease of access center. If so you can try tabbing to the link
that says something like "Make the keyboard easier to use" and press enter
on it. This is where you can turn off sticky keys. However, try just
pressing the left shift key five times quickly and if you get the dialog
about using sticky keys answer No.

If the above doesn't work and the problem is just with the Windows key then
you might have a faulty key. You can try using some canned air and using it
around the Windows key to see if that helps.

Take care.

Hi Bob,
I changed the subject line to reflect the conversation.
Windows Vista was released around February of 2007.
From what I can remember, it was much like Windows 7, although I believe
you

could choose the XP Start Menu
and it was shipped with an e-mail client, which was Windows Mail.
To date, Windows Vista was the last version of Windows that shipped with
an

e-mail client installed, and Windows Mail was only available in Vista,
although there have been registry edits allowing the client to be used in
Windows 7
As has already been mentioned, Windows Vista had limited native hardware
support, and many other issues that forced Microsoft to release Windows 7
earlier than originally anticipated.
Nothing more jumps out at me, since there have been 3 new versions of
Windows since Vista, and number 4 is coming at the end of July this year.
I no longer have the box Vista was installed on, so I don't have any first
hand references.
I'm sure if you browsed the web you could find more info.

As someone who has had a Windows ME and Windows Vista machine as well as
Windows XP and Windows 7, I never experienced the negative aspects of
Windows ME and Vista, and Windows Vista was actually pretty good after
service pack 1. The only issue with Windows ME was that I had to install the
fix for system restore. I used JAWS with every operating system mentioned. I
guess each user has their own stories to tell and this is mine (SMILE).

Does anybody have some tips on how to subscribe to a youtube channel?
How could you tell whether you've successfully subscribed or not? JAWS
apparently does not give any indications. For example a confirmation
message saying the subscription is completed or something similar. Or
at least it should be greyed-out after the subscribe button has been
pressed. Any tips or ideas?
Thanks.

It was similar to XP. It did not seem to be as JAWS friendly, from what
little I used my husband's Vista. We (and that includes our computer guy
here in town) never could figure out how to navigate easily in Outlook
Express in Vista. My impression was that it was not as accessible as XP, so
I could not judge it otherwise. It never seemed to have a lot of appeal
though. But this is a JAWS list, and I think Vista and JAWS were not
friendly.

[JAWS-Users] locating text in a file(s)

2015-06-19 Thread Lenny McHugh
I vaguely remember in old dos you could search for a character string in
files in a directory and sub directories. Is there a way in windows to
search for a character string in all of the folders and files under the
parent folder? I probably have about 80 files in several folders for my web
page and want to find every occurrence of an item.
Thanks

Hi Bob,
If you would give more thought to your messages before you post them,
than perhaps you wouldn't have to create more list traffic by posting
apologies.
The purpose of this list is to help each other with respect to using Jaws
with Windows
and associated programs, and simply saying that you don't like something, or
saying you don't know about something
is not useful to anyone.
Giving useful information in some form is what is expected from all members.

Re: [JAWS-Users] sound recorder and windows 7

2015-06-19 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Leonard,
Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, changed the Windows Sound Recorder in
Windows 7 and up.
The numbers you hear spoken by Jaws appears to be some type of progress bar,
even though nothing is happening
at least not that I could find.
Once you press the record button, recording begins and when you press the
stop button, it opens a "save as", dialogue
at this point, you can choose to save the file, or tab to the cancel button,
and then resume recording.
The only way I have found to check your recording is to play the file after
you have saved it,
and there is no way to edit it in the Sound Recorder program.
You are right, there was a graphic file available for earlier versions of
Jaws, but they worked only for the Windows Sound Recorder program in Windows
XP,
which was more versatile than the new one.

HTH,
Rick Justice

I was fooling around with sound recorder in windows seven and am curious
about a couple of things. I noticed whether I'm just waiting to press
record or during the actual recording Jaws keeps announcing a series of
numbers. They sound like percentages but I'm not sure. Even though these
numbers are read by Jaws v16 they fortunately don't make it into the
recording. Also, there doesn't seem to be a method to listen to the
recording before saving it to a .wma file. Lastly, I thought in older
versions of windows and jaws there were sound recorder scripts which
provided more means of handling the program.

5.Down Arrow to Protected View

Hello,

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. Press S to move to the Save category.
3. Tab to the checkbox "don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files" and press spacebar to check it.
4. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

If you also don't want the backstage opening when you open word do the
following:

1. Press Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. The first category is general. Tab across the options in this category.
When you get to the "Show the start screen when this application starts"
checkbox use spacebar to uncheck it if it is checked.
3. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
4. Close Word and open it again to make sure your options stayed as you set
them. If not then you might try restarting your system.

Hi Dacia,

For this one, you will also have to open the File tab and arrow down to
Options. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once
inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open
this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one
time to enter the Protected View settings, and uncheck any of these settings
that you do not want affecting the files that you download by having them
open in protected view. When at the end of the list, simply tab once and
press enter on the OK button. Lastly, do this one more time to exit the
menu. Now documents that you download from the internet, an email attachment
or whatever, will not open in protected view.

If you do have one to do this, focus on the file, right click and select
properties. At the end of the Home tab, there will be an item called
"Unblock". Click on this, then on Apply, then on OK, and the file will not
open in protected view.

How could you tell whether you've successfully subscribed or not? JAWS

Well, installing it has not worked for me as it did not install, the
instructions I read did not work, and, you have to be invited to use the
add-on. More hassle. It may work great once installed/configured, but
for
my part, although I have followed trying to go to add-ons and install it,
it

does not find it or install it, thus can't get an invite either which if I
had one could not get the bit of programming to work. I am not a neophyte
at computers and such but this is the only reason I installed Firefox, and
it does not work, I don't care for the way Firefox hides bookmarks it does
interact with one or two sites better than I.E. but not much.

For those who can make it work great.

Now, for me have a problem because I had to try so many times to get a

problem again! No sense in having the account now. I get e-mail saying I
have not used the account, darned right, can't get in due to all their

on how a password must be created and had help doing mine, neither of us
can
remember what we eventually did, and no e-mail to tell us. Security is
one

could

not hear it well enough to understand any of it and it would not replay.

PayPal is not an option again due to their own fault. I understand they

Hi all.
I just want you all to know that there is a great add-on for Firefox
called webvism. Once you install the add-on, it will solve any of
those capshas and put the result on the clip board for you to paste in
the box. It has worked for me every time and has lessened my need for
sighted help! Just wanted you all to know. Take care all.

Why don't you try doing a google search for these instructions? I have not
used Office 2010 in quite awhile, and have forgotten many of the things that
were specific to that version. The process is going to be similar, although
it may be located under a different ribbon tab, or called by another name.
Sorry that I have not been of more help to you.

Hi Dacia,

For this one, you will also have to open the File tab and arrow down to
Options. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once
inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open
this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one

press enter on the OK button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] one drive

2015-06-19 Thread Rose Combs
Well, installing it has not worked for me as it did not install, the
instructions I read did not work, and, you have to be invited to use the
add-on. More hassle. It may work great once installed/configured, but for
my part, although I have followed trying to go to add-ons and install it, it
does not find it or install it, thus can't get an invite either which if I
had one could not get the bit of programming to work. I am not a neophyte
at computers and such but this is the only reason I installed Firefox, and
it does not work, I don't care for the way Firefox hides bookmarks it does
interact with one or two sites better than I.E. but not much.

For those who can make it work great.

Now, for me have a problem because I had to try so many times to get a
password PayPal would accept that I now forgot it, so now have the CAPTCH
problem again! No sense in having the account now. I get e-mail saying I
have not used the account, darned right, can't get in due to all their rules
on how a password must be created and had help doing mine, neither of us can
remember what we eventually did, and no e-mail to tell us. Security is one
thing but this is totally beyond. There was an Audible CAPTCHA but I could
not hear it well enough to understand any of it and it would not replay.

PayPal is not an option again due to their own fault. I understand they
don't want you to understand the audio, but if I can't understand it I can't
reproduce it. It is all over the top for most of us.

[JAWS-Users] sound recorder and windows 7

2015-06-19 Thread leonard morris
I was fooling around with sound recorder in windows seven and am curious
about a couple of things. I noticed whether I'm just waiting to press
record or during the actual recording Jaws keeps announcing a series of
numbers. They sound like percentages but I'm not sure. Even though these
numbers are read by Jaws v16 they fortunately don't make it into the
recording. Also, there doesn't seem to be a method to listen to the
recording before saving it to a .wma file. Lastly, I thought in older
versions of windows and jaws there were sound recorder scripts which
provided more means of handling the program.

When I have gotten this in the past, usually with the Alt or Control keys,
it has just been a temporary sticking of the key. Try just tapping the
Windows key several times to see if it will stop saying this. If not, try
rebooting your computerand try Spraying some canned air into the keyboard
around all of the keys, there may be something under the keys causing it to

Hi,
How do you start the desktop version of Word?

when

you open Word, just a blank document.

As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app

not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally
accessible.

On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes
to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it
a
name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving
features, go
down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in the name
that
you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to the Save

and press enter. If you do not want to save the document to the default
folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit field, type in
the

path to where you want the document saved, such as: c:\archives\document

Petras, it happens to me too sometimes. sometimes the alt or windows
keys exhibit this phenomenon with other keys. simply press the alt or
windows key (which ever is the culprit) by them selves to unstick them.
you might have to do it a few times until the phenomenon goes away.

Today I turned on my computer. I put my password in. Then I get "You have not
registered a fingerprot. To use your fingprint, please compleete the
enroolment procees. 1. tool tip." Then I hit internet explorer. I have
"Windows enter," it normally just says enter. If I type in a letter, it says
"Windows," and then the letter. Why does it do that?
