Re: [JAWS-Users] windows enter
Hello Petras, Do you by any chance have sticky keys turned on? You can press the left shift key five times quickly to turn on or off sticky keys. The resulting dialog box will ask if you want sticky keys on and you can choose yes or no. If sticky keys are on then when you press the Windows key and release it, the key is actually still held down so when you press the enter key you are actually using Windows key with enter. However, if the modifier keys remain pressed after you release them then the same should be happening when you use the CTRL, Alt and caps lock keys. To test this try pressing the Windows key one time and take your finger off of it. Press the letter U to see if you go to the ease of access center. If so you can try tabbing to the link that says something like "Make the keyboard easier to use" and press enter on it. This is where you can turn off sticky keys. However, try just pressing the left shift key five times quickly and if you get the dialog about using sticky keys answer No. If the above doesn't work and the problem is just with the Windows key then you might have a faulty key. You can try using some canned air and using it around the Windows key to see if that helps. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws!
As someone who has had a Windows ME and Windows Vista machine as well as Windows XP and Windows 7, I never experienced the negative aspects of Windows ME and Vista, and Windows Vista was actually pretty good after service pack 1. The only issue with Windows ME was that I had to install the fix for system restore. I used JAWS with every operating system mentioned. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws!
It was similar to XP. It did not seem to be as JAWS friendly, from what little I used my husband's Vista. We (and that includes our computer guy here in town) never could figure out how to navigate easily in Outlook Express in Vista. My impression was that it was not as accessible as XP, so I could not judge it otherwise. It never seemed to have a lot of appeal though. But this is a JAWS list, and I think Vista and JAWS were not friendly. "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right." Henry Ford. Hi Bob, If you would give more thought to your messages before you post them, than perhaps you wouldn't have to create more list traffic by posting apologies. The purpose of this list is to help each other with respect to using Jaws with Windows and associated programs, and simply saying that you don't like something, or saying you don't know about something is not useful to anyone. Re: [JAWS-Users] sound recorder and windows 7
Hi Leonard, Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, changed the Windows Sound Recorder in Windows 7 and up. The numbers you hear spoken by Jaws appears to be some type of progress bar, even though nothing is happening at least not that I could find. Once you press the record button, recording begins and when you press the stop button, it opens a "save as", dialogue at this point, you can choose to save the file, or tab to the cancel button, and then resume recording. The only way I have found to check your recording is to play the file after you have saved it, and there is no way to edit it in the Sound Recorder program. You are right, there was a graphic file available for earlier versions of Jaws, but they worked only for the Windows Sound Recorder program in Windows XP, which was more versatile than the new one. I noticed whether I'm just waiting to press record or during the actual recording Jaws keeps announcing a series of numbers. They sound like percentages but I'm not sure. Even though these numbers are read by Jaws v16 they fortunately don't make it into the recording. Also, there doesn't seem to be a method to listen to the recording before saving it to a .wma file. Lastly, I thought in older versions of windows and jaws there were sound recorder scripts which provided more means of handling the program. -- "Every country has an idenity, history, customs, and culture. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one time to enter the Protected View settings, and uncheck any of these settings that you do not want affecting the files that you download by having them open in protected view. When at the end of the list, simply tab once and press enter on the OK button. Lastly, do this one more time to exit the menu. Now documents that you download from the internet, an email attachment or whatever, will not open in protected view. If you do have one to do this, focus on the file, right click and select properties. At the end of the Home tab, there will be an item called "Unblock". Click on this, then on Apply, then on OK, and the file will not open in protected view. [JAWS-Users] sound recorder and windows 7
I was fooling around with sound recorder in windows seven and am curious about a couple of things. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows enter
When I have gotten this in the past, usually with the Alt or Control keys, it has just been a temporary sticking of the key. Try just tapping the Windows key several times to see if it will stop saying this. If not, try rebooting your computerand try Spraying some canned air into the keyboard around all of the keys, there may be something under the keys causing it to stay activated even though you are not touching it. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows enter
Petras, it happens to me too sometimes. sometimes the alt or windows keys exhibit this phenomenon with other keys. simply press the alt or windows key (which ever is the culprit) by them selves to unstick them. you might have to do it a few times until the phenomenon goes away. Re: [JAWS-Users] finding my internal microphone with jaws
That's just bizaare Tom. I know for a fact, both Mr. Farren and myself discussed this thread when he gave steps to locate one's microphone cause I myself tried his steps, and found mine. He then went on to give further steps on the property of the microphone and although he didn't go into details, he was most generous in stating he felt the task could be accompolished by just poking around on the various options. Maybe you didn't read his reply? He said this.. go to start menu, type in: manage audible device and enter. then do a control-tab to the "recording" page is where I found my microphone. - Original Message - From: Tom Clary To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, June 19, 2015 5:14 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] finding my internal microphone with jaws thank you for replying, because now i know someone read my post, which proves the noisy wheel gets the grease.
