[JAWS-Users] An Accessibility Related Issue In MS Outlook 2016

2015-11-18 Thread inamuddin
Dear friends, I have started to use MS Outlook 2016 since yesterday.

The matter of fact is that I have been facing problems regarding
accessibility of MS Outlook.

Whenever I open my inbox, sometimes it doesn't read full time for example it
only says read 14 am instead of 9 14 am.

Also it doesn't give me the date of receiving of email.

Your quick response in this regard would highly be appreciated.

With regards from Inamuddin with the Skype ID:

I have not heard this tutorial as of yet. Those of you who have what are
your opinions of the recording? I only know that JAWS is very clearly
recorded along with David's' voice.

It is somewhat of a large MP3 file but I might have the space to post it on
the server if I obtain permission from the author. Obviously boys and girls
I don't do such things without prior consent.

  Hi all,
I forgot to mention that you do not even need to have dropbox to
download
the tutorial from the link I gave you. You don't have to know how to
use it
or anything like that. All you guys need to do is enter on the link
in the
email, and a page will come up. Go to almost to the bottom of the
page and
there will be a download link, and press enter on that. Now, you can
save it
where you want on your computer. That is it. If you guys want to
learn how
to use Drop Box, I could teach you that in my next tutorial. Take
care, and
I hope you can download it and all will learn a lot about Chrome. I
am now
using it as my default browser. It is an hour audio tutorial and I go
over
all the basics of Chrome from browsing, to saving and getting to book
marks,
saving pages in different formats, downloading and saving files, and
much
more. Let me know how it goes downloading it.

If you have one upgrade remaining, that's the sma. You have to use it for 17.
If you try and use it for 18, you won't be authorized. It will know that you've

Unfortunately,, as far as I know you can't save SMA's. If you don't install 17,
you still can't get 18 if you only have one SMA left. You've simply wasted your

First, press the Windows key to open the start area. up arrow once
and press enter on all apps. Arrow to the program that you want to
set the short cut for. If it says collapsed, press enter to open it.
Now, arrow down to the program and press the applications key. Next,
arrow down to open file location and press enter. Press the
applications key. Now, up arrow once and enter on properties. Next,
tab to the shortcut field and put in a letter. The alt and ctrl are
automatically added to the short cut. Just tab to okay and press
enter. Now, you can open that program with alt + ctrl + the letter
without that program pinned anywhere. If the program is just on your
computer, this way to create a short cut will work. Take care and I
hope you enjoy this.

Hello listmembers,

Having recently had my Iphone stolen, I just created an Icloud account to
back up specific files and other content. I would also like to use
JAWS with
Icloud to begin developing a contacts list as filling in the contact
fields

would be quicker using JAWS, than the touch screen on my Iphone.

I noticed a few glitches with JAWS and Icloud, initially when I opened
contacts and my wife informed me that in order to add anew contact, I
had to

click on a +-sign at the bottom of the screen which didn't appear to be
accessible using JAWS.

Are there any work-arounds or scripts for JAWS and the Icloud? If not
what

are some things do be aware of.

Took the computer to a local computer shop. They just called, and the
computer no longer requires a password. A well spent 35 bucks.
 Now, the question is:
Does Windows 10 require that you have a user name/account and password? I
would rather not have to deal with it. I just want the computer and JAWS to
come up!!
But, I can handle it, if absolutely necessary. Talk to me, folks.
 Thanks for your input.

[JAWS-Users] New update of jaws

2015-11-18 Thread Marek Durila

Hi,
We are having a new update of JF
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/JAWS/JAWSWhatsNew#Enhancements
Enhancements in JAWS 17.0.1214 (November 2015)
Smart Navigation, More Efficient Interaction with Complex Web Pages and
Applications

Today and in the future, users will be faced with an increased need to work
with complex web forms, tables, and even applications that run inside of a
web browser. This will impact your day to day interactions with services
on-line such as banking and shopping, in addition to many web apps found in
both companies and government agencies. For instance, Internet Explorer can
be used to log onto a Microsoft SharePoint server to collaborate with other
co-workers and create and store documents. The new Smart Navigation™
feature is designed to make it more efficient when navigating web-based
applications with the Virtual Cursor as the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW or CTRL
+LEFT and CTRL+RIGHT ARROW commands move by control instead of character
and word. This makes navigation such as moving across toolbars, tab strips,
and navigation links more like navigating around a desktop application.
Pressing the Say Character, Say Word, or Say Line commands twice quickly
changes to the traditional navigation by character, word, line, sentence,
and paragraph so you can review the text of the control. Smart Navigation
resumes when you move to a different control by pressing UP or DOWN ARROW
or TAB. Alternatively, you can use the INSERT+X command to quickly toggle
Smart Navigation on or off depending on the type of web site you are
navigating.

For example, if you use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to move across a tab
strip, you might hear JAWS announce something like; "Home tab selected,"
"Insert tab," and "Page Layout tab." If you wanted to review the items on
the tab strip character by character, press the Say Character (NUM PAD 5),
Say Word (INSERT+NUM PAD 5), or Say Line (INSERT+UP ARROW) commands twice
quickly. You can now navigate by character or word until you press DOWN
ARROW to move away from the tab strip to another control.

Smart Navigation is off by default. To turn it on, there are a few ways.

The quickest way to enable Smart Navigation is through the Startup Wizard
which automatically launches after JAWS is installed. When the wizard
starts, select the Next button until you reach the Common Options page. You
will be focused on a group of radio buttons where you can use the ARROW
keys to choose the Smart Navigation option you want to use (Controls and
Tables or Controls). Pressing TAB moves you to another group of radio
buttons that allow you to select how Forms Mode activates. For the best
experience with Smart Navigation, it is recommended that users set Forms
Mode to Semi-Auto or Manual. This prevents JAWS from unexpectedly turning
on Forms Mode while navigating with the ARROW keys. Once you have changed
the options you want, continue selecting Next until you reach the Braille
Settings page and then select Finish to save your changes. Smart Navigation
will now be enabled for any environments that use the Virtual Cursor.

Alternatively, Smart Navigation can be configured through Settings Center
or Quick Settings. For instance, you may want to use Smart Navigation in
Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer.

You can also temporarily toggle Smart Navigation on or off using the INSERT
+X command. For instance, if you have configured Smart Navigation to be
enabled by default and you encounter a web page where you would prefer not
to use it, you can press INSERT+X to turn it off and use the more
traditional navigation. JAWS will switch back to Smart Navigation when
focus moves away from the browser or you navigate to a different web site.
This command is also useful if you do not want to use the Say Character,
Say Word, or Say Line commands twice quickly to switch to standard
navigation. It offers the additional benefit of not automatically switching
back to Smart Navigation when you move to a different control with the UP
or DOWN ARROW keys. You can just press INSERT+X again to toggle back to
Smart Navigation when you are ready. As Smart Navigation is toggled, the
JAWS focus will always remain at the current location of the toggle.

Anytime you are using Smart Navigation, JAWS will work in Screen Layout.
This presents pages in the virtual buffer similar to how they appear
visually on the screen. Toolbar buttons or other lists of controls that are
visually laid out horizontally on the screen are displayed on one line in
the virtual document, allowing a single press of the DOWN ARROW to skip the
entire toolbar instead of having to move from button to button to get past
it.

For a great example, please try JAWS 17 on a web form such as the WebTrack
sample form on the Surf's Up pages. On this page, you will be able to see
the power of navigating more efficiently with the DOWN ARROW then in
previous versions.

Smart Navigation offers two modes, Controls and Tables, or Controls.

What's New:

Enhancements in JAWS 17.0.1214 (November 2015)

The following is a list of improvements made between the initial JAWS 17
release and the November 2015 update.

Smart Navigation
list of 6 items
• When INSERT+X is used to toggle Smart Navigation, the JAWS focus now
remains at the location on the web page where you performed the toggle.
• The command to temporarily toggle Smart Navigation (INSERT+X) can now be
found using the JAWS Command Search feature (INSERT+SPACEBAR, J).
• Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading list items on certain web
pages when using Smart Navigation.
• Addressed a reported issue with the commands to read from the beginning of
the line to the cursor (INSERT+HOME) and from the cursor to the end of the
line (INSERT+PAGE UP) not working in a table cell when using Smart
Navigation.
• When using the V and SHIFT+V Navigation Quick Keys to move to the next or
previous visited link, resolved an issue where all links on the current line
were being read instead of the specific visited link if Smart Navigation was
active.
• Addressed an issue where many blank lines were appearing on some web pages
with Smart Navigation active.
list end

JAWS
list of 12 items
• Addressed an issue with the Amazon Product Search Research It lookup
source not returning results as expected.
• Addressed an issue with symbols not being read as expected when inserted
into a document using the Select a Symbol to Print dialog box (INSERT+4).
• In response to customer feedback, the folder path for the Explore Scripts
shortcut has been changed from C:\ProgramData\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\17.0\Scripts\enu
to point to C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\17.0\Scripts.
• This update contains new drivers from HumanWare for the Brailiant BI
braille display in order to support Windows 10.
• If Active Follows Braille is not enabled, addressed issues where the
braille display would not move away from the structured line when panning,
or using
the commands to move the braille cursor to the next or prior line (RIGHT
ROCKER BAR on Focus Blue braille displays).
• When entering text from the Perkins-style keyboard on a braille display
using Unified English Braille (UEB) or another form of Contracted English
Braille,
resolved an issue where contracted words beginning with dots 4-5-6, such as
spirit, many, world, etc., were not appearing correctly in documents. The
dots
4-5-6 portion of the word was being dropped when the word was
back-translated.
• When verbosity for Braille Flash messages is set to Advanced, resolved
customer reported issues where "sts" messages were being shown on the
braille
display even when the option to display status information was turned off.
In addition, the flash messages for the INSERT+T and INSERT+Q commands now
display
the short message as expected instead of the long message.
• If the JAWS cursor is configured to follow the PC Cursor using the
CTRL+INSERT+NUM PAD Minus command, an issue was resolved where JAWS was not
reading
as expected when moving between applications with ALT+TAB.
• Addressed an issue with JAWS not correctly identifying the factorial
symbol in MathML content.
• If you perform a two-finger double tap to open a context menu while text
selection is active, the flick gestures will now work as expected to
navigate
through the menu items. Text selection is toggled by performing a triple tap
with one finger.
• If you perform a five-finger tap to open the Run JAWS Manager dialog box
from an Internet Explorer window, addressed an issue where you could not use
touch gestures to navigate this dialog box.
• To address potential issues, changes have been made to the process of
compiling scripts so they are compatible with versions of JAWS prior to 17.
The
Compatibility Mode option has been removed from Script Manager and the –c
command line switch has been removed from scompile.exe. To compile scripts
that
will work with prior versions of JAWS, you must now insert the following
line without the quotes into your JSS file: ";#pragma usePoFile 0"
list end

Adobe Acrobat
list of 1 items
• Resolved an issue reported by Adobe where labels for check boxes in PDF
documents were being read twice in the virtual buffer.
list end

Microsoft Excel
list of 2 items
• In Windows 8.1, resolved an issue where the backstage view in Excel 2013
was not being announced when it gained focus.
• Resolved a reported issue with the GetCellSpan script function.

settings I noticed microsoft had reset what I had configured in the previous
build of windows 10.
SO IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT AFTER INSTALLING THE NOVEMBER WINDOWS 10
VERSION 15.11 UPDATE THAT YOU CHECK THAT ALL YOUR SETTINGS ARE THE WAY YOU
WANT!

I got tw blue to launch finally. I wasted 15 bucks on chicken nugget so give
it back!

Anyways, I assume we must redo the keystroke as they are conflicting with
windows 10 keystrokes? Or will I just need to do the pass through command
which is ridiculous willy.

Back to launching tw blue, why can't I launch it from the desk top even when
running as administrator via the context menu, I have to click the .exe in
the folder to launch it.

So much problem just to tweet lol.

[JAWS-Users] jaws SMA info

2015-11-18 Thread Kevin

this is what FS responded
If you purchased the SMA with the JAWS screen reading software version 16.0
release, it will enable you to obtain the next release or the next two
releases depending on the SMA you purchased. Therefore, if your SMA will
allow you to obtain the JAWS 17.0 release and the JAWS 18.0 release if this
is the following release after JAWS 17.0. If you have a SMA for the nenxt
release that enable you to get JAWS 17, you can’t not use JAWS 17 and use
JAWS 18.0 for your SMA.

so I guess there are many types of SMAs that can be purchased, you need to
ask about which one is best for your needs!

If you have one upgrade remaining, that's the sma. You have to use it
for 17. If you try and use it for 18, you won't be authorized. It will

I'm also happy the Jaws update fixed the Jaws search command (alt insert

• Resolved an issue reported by Adobe where labels for check boxes in PDF
documents were being read twice in the virtual buffer.

Eric,

I have been paying $120 for two versions of JAWS forever. I usually
bought my SMA in December. Now I'm told I have to pay an upgrade fee

Yes, you should check, you will also notice many new sub categories which

Also, some changes in current sub categories.
Over all, w-10 and Jaws work fantastic after the major update.
Things are a lot smoother now.
The new keystroke for the live tile region, in the latest Jaws 17 update,
seems to be hit or miss right now.
But finally, the smart navigation, seems to be working very well for me
right now in w-10.

I have it set to, controls and tables, and have chose semi-mode.
Thanks to, Freedom Scientific and Microsoft, w-10 is working great...

I think this is probably not so simple any more like it was for XP, 7, and

faster scale than ever before. This has the potential to break accessibility
in a way that the current version of Jaws, or any screen reader, may not

Hi,
I can confirm this behavior. It's happened a few times to me recently on

somehow after entering on what verbalized as your orders I ended up on a
page for sellers on amazon. thank goodness for alt left arrow. I could

this case.
As for its cause or solution such still escapes me but I can indeed confirm

I know it isn't a solution but sometimes knowing that an anomaly isn't
unique to you and your set up can bring a bit of solace.
