Hellot to my fellow subscribers.
When I fired up my pc for the first time this morning like I do every
morning I found the following message.
I was told to clean my pc.
So Windows Defender was on the job.
I cleaned my machine and I can’t remember what it told me.
But I also did a thorough scan of my pc and it didn’t find anything else
wrong with my new system.
So I like the build in windows defender.
So that is my feedback for today.

That is a matter of opinion! I have tried most of them for my language, US
English, and in certain circumstances they work great, for everyday use,
Eloquence is still my favorite, it reads punctuation I wish, raises and lowers
pitch for capitalization and after 17 years of using JAWS the cadence is
something I have gotten used to hearing. I have used other voices but I go
back to Eloquence and probably will do so until it disappears from the program.
I hated Tom years ago, Samantha is horrible, some of the others also sound like
smokers, or Grandpa in Eloquence.
I use Paul from Voice ware in another screen reader and he is fine except for
some mispronunciations on some words. I used Paul then I had K1000 but it
never worked right with Windows 7, the voices in Open Book drive me crazy after
reading with hem for an hour or more. However, Eloquence in Open Book also
drives me crazy if I have to read for more than a few minutes, the cadence is
not the same as with JAWS, the phrasing is off, pitch seems less stable,. I
used it to read a PDF converted for a church project, 288 pages more or less
and I was amused by how it pronounced bible names, annoyed by the constant
higher pitch for some items, have no clue why it could change pitch in the
middle of a sentence, found it very distracting to be frank.
With each chapter of the book taking approximately an hour to read at a high
rate of speed, I wanted to scream by the time I was finished.
Unfortunately, I thought that since I had premium voices from Jaws 16, that I
could remove the ones Open Book used, discovered that is not the case, but I
don't think I would have been any more please by Tom or Samantha which as I
recall were to two main OB choices, since the program has not been updated
since about 2012, I doubt that there would be choices I'd like any better.

If I were to use Vocalizer Premium voices regularly in Jaws 17, it would
probably be Allison or Eva, but the few days I spent with each of them sent me
back to Eloquence.

I think the problem of why Jaws would not start when I started the computer
may have been solved. Seems as though the computer never shut down when I
clicked the shutdown button. I am sure you have all heard the message about
one program needs to be shut down when you shut down your computer. That
program of course is Jaws and it is accompanied by a message on the screen
like: One program remains to be shut down, “Jaws” Do you want to shut down any
way? Press OK to force shutdown. In my case not being able to see this, my
computer was in some kind of standby. Last night a friend clicked that OK
button and this morning when I started the computer Jaws came up talking. Tom

[JAWS-Users] can form fields--edit fields--be labeled?

2015-12-09 Thread joanne
I received instructions on how to label links or buttons using insert f and
going down to prompt/create. But can edit fields be relabeled? I am checking
out a Windows 10 machine and the email fields say rich edit control instead of
to, from, etc. And of course on the Web the edit fields on some sites are not
announced. Is there a fix for this? Using both 16 and 17, and both versions
read these email edit fields the same way.

Re: [JAWS-Users] commenting onwindows defender.

2015-12-09 Thread Ron Kolesar

Well, it must have been a message from windows defender.
I simply just smacked enter or you probably could smack the spacebar on the
message and it did it's thing.
Then after it was completed I rana thorough scan and nothing else was found
on my PC.

Hope that answers your questions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 and Logos 3

2015-12-09 Thread rhs
It is pretty clunky but many things are accessable with Windows 7 and Logos
3. I bought the upgrade to Logos 4 but never used it because it was
unusable.

Sometimes I select a portion of a commentary and copy it to MS Word. I can
then read the footnotes, etc. I don't do much of anything with original
languages except search the Englishmen's Concordance from the NASB Bible.

I turn Screen Echo to all and use the Jaws cursor for most things.

I'm surprised your using Logos 3 with Windows 7. They encouraged me to
upgrade to Logos 4 after moving fromXP to 7. Logos 4 was never accessible
and I don't have it on my computer anymore now that I lost my sight for all
time. It was a shame really as I built that library up from the Original

extras. I had close to 3000 resources in my library.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 In Safe Mode

2015-12-09 Thread Reed Poynter
Hello,

This is caused by a bad update from Windows Update. See this news article
which points to instructions about how to fix it.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3013219/microsoft-windows/microsoft-pulls-b
otched-patch-kb-3114409-that-triggered-problems-with-outlook-2010.html

The article says,
Microsoft's Patch Tuesday update KB 3114409, intended to help admins keep
Outlook 2010 from starting in safe mode, has in fact done just the opposite.
Many Outlook 2010 customers report that installing KB 3114409 forces Outlook
to start in safe mode.

As of early Wednesday morning, the patch has been pulled, but if you're
experiencing odd problems with Outlook 2010 -- it opens in safe mode only
(always
opens maximized and has no sounds, no reading pane, or other view settings
that stick), has broken templates, and much more -- you should look at the
KB 3114409 article

So, you have to uninstall this update. The news article has a link pointing
to instructions.

Thank you for suggesting I look into columns view. This did fix the order

2015-12-09 Thread Mike B
Hi Joanne,

Do you have scripts copied / pasted into the ENU folders of the Jaws
versions you're using? If so, look in Manage Applications Settings to see
if the scripts for your email client are checked / running. I'm probably
using the wrong computer lingo but, maybe it'll help. To get to the Manage
Application Settingsdo the following:
1. Open Jaws Options with, Insert + J, if you run Jaws from the system tray.
2. Press enter on, Options.
3. Arrow up to, Manage Application Settings..., & press enter. You will now
be in a list of items that are either checked or unchecked so, arrow down
the list to see if Windows Mail or Outlook Express is checked. If not,
press the spacebar to check it, & tab to Okay & press enter. Now see if
this helps any.
Take care.

Hmmm, I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess as to why you get the
language change when alt-tabbing?

Have you looked in regional settings to see what language you have defined?
You
might also need to insure you have the correct location defined in that tab
which is also in regional settings.

the language detect setting in JAWS 15, the issue went away, but when I did the
same change in 16, the issue is still there. Which I do find pretty odd.

That is a matter of opinion! I have tried most of them for my language, US
English, and in certain circumstances they work great, for everyday use,
Eloquence is still my favorite, it reads punctuation I wish, raises and
lowers pitch for capitalization and after 17 years of using JAWS the cadence
is something I have gotten used to hearing. I have used other voices but I
go back to Eloquence and probably will do so until it disappears from the
program.
I hated Tom years ago, Samantha is horrible, some of the others also sound
like smokers, or Grandpa in Eloquence.
I use Paul from Voice ware in another screen reader and he is fine except
for some mispronunciations on some words. I used Paul then I had K1000 but
it never worked right with Windows 7, the voices in Open Book drive me crazy
after reading with hem for an hour or more. However, Eloquence in Open Book
also drives me crazy if I have to read for more than a few minutes, the
cadence is not the same as with JAWS, the phrasing is off, pitch seems less
stable,. I used it to read a PDF converted for a church project, 288 pages
more or less and I was amused by how it pronounced bible names, annoyed by
the constant higher pitch for some items, have no clue why it could change
pitch in the middle of a sentence, found it very distracting to be frank.
With each chapter of the book taking approximately an hour to read at a high
rate of speed, I wanted to scream by the time I was finished.
Unfortunately, I thought that since I had premium voices from Jaws 16, that
I could remove the ones Open Book used, discovered that is not the case, but
I don't think I would have been any more please by Tom or Samantha which as
I recall were to two main OB choices, since the program has not been updated
since about 2012, I doubt that there would be choices I'd like any better.

If I were to use Vocalizer Premium voices regularly in Jaws 17, it would
probably be Allison or Eva, but the few days I spent with each of them sent
me back to Eloquence.

If you change synthesizer, you probably won't have that problem. (Vocalizer
Expressive voices are now are as good as, or better than, Eloquence.)

I realize this doesn't help but I experience the same behaviour. I find
though that this happens when I am using IE 11, I don't think it happens
with other applications. I did ask this question of the list but no one
else seems to have the problem.
Its annoying and I hope we can find a solution.

Hello,

This is actually my first time sending an email with this group.

I've been encountering an issue while using JAWS 16. Everytime I press keys

on my keyboared, the JAWS language changes to French. I've disabled the
language detect but, for example, if I press the Alt+Tab keys, instead of
JAWS saying "Alt Tab" in English, it says it in French.

I had the same issue on v15 and disabling the language detect solved it

Just to clarify, I think the keyboard shortcut to switch between keyboards
is actually the left Control and Shitft keys. The left Alt and Shift keys
don't work.

Have you tried switching keyboard layouts, (left-alt-shift keys).

I haven't had your problem myself, and I'm now uisng 17. I've used 16 and 17
with the Moira (Irish) Vocalizer Expressive voice. (Neither have I had the
problem with Eloquence.) If you have the (Office) Language Bar installed, I
wonder could that be making some sort of a difference there?

It is not just the alt tab, the whole keyboard switches to French. I have
not tried the expressive voices to see if the problem remains or whether it
would be a cure.

Well, I was addressing the language detection problem in the case. It can be
matter of which is the more inconvenient: having alt-tab spoken (as if in
French, every time; or having the speech synthesizer run smoothly enough.

I needed to stop the update because it was stuck .

not cancel out.
