[JAWS-Users] Step to have Jaws announce spelling errors.
Hi Gang, If you want Jaws to announce that you have a spelling error I will post below how to turn it on. How it works is if you miss spell a word and you either arrow on to the miss spelled word Jaws will announce "spelling error." It does not announce any spelling errors when you just have Jaws read the whole document or the whole line. The only time it announces "spelling error " " is when you arrow word by word or arrow on to the miss spelled word. I believe this feature only works in MS Word or Outlook. Below is how to turn it on. If you go to the quick settings dialog while in the desired application with the JAWS key+v command. You can turn on the auto correct feature and then there is a spelling error detection option that can be selected in order to provide this type of feedback. Therefore, once you activate the quick settings dialog, type in auto in the search edit field. At this point, arrow down to auto correct and press the spacebar to check this item. Next, tab over to okay and hit enter. Once this is done, go back to the quick settings dialog, type spell in the search edit field. Now, arrow down to: Spelling error detection Press the spacebar to set this to your desired option, tab to okay and hit enter. The 1x1, 1x2 etc. was part of what I was having trouble with. I wasn't sure which number was the rows and which the columns. It took some trial and error to get it sorted. Thanks for the help. Kimber, It looks as though Theresa and George have answered your question, but meanwhile I located the specific page on that website for the Word 2013 textbook. It costs $90, $10 more than I paid a few years ago for her Word 2010 text. Yes, I know-I learned the hard way. I have an old Asus and I bought one for my wife. In my book they are great. Just do FN key+f9 and it toggles the pad off and on. Re: [JAWS-Users] Formatting columns in word then getting jaws to read the columns
Kimber, Adding a little to what Teresa said see below. There are many variations of this but here is one way. 1. Press ALT and then arrow to the right to Insert and press space bar. 2. Now TAB over until you hear Tables, it will be 3 or 4 TABS. 3. Press Space Bar and it brings you into a grouping of boxes. you will be in the top left box. JAWS will say something like "1x" which is your row number. 4. Now ARROW down an JAWS will say "2x" then "3x" and so on. Arrow own to 5. 5. Now arrow to the right twice. This will give you a beginning Table 5 rows long and 3 columns across. Press Enter. 6. This brings you back into your Word document and you are in the upper left cell of your new Table. If you want to mess with the width of your columns then from here press your Applications key. 7. Arrow down to Table Properties & press enter. 8. You land in the Table properties TAB where you can set many parameters for your table. 9. ALT + U moves you to the Columns TAB and then ALT + R takes you to the Row properties TAB. There are also TABS for Cell and All Text. 10. In the Column TAB TAB once an you land on Preferred width an it is checked by default. 11. TAB once an you land in the Spin Box to set your preferred column width. 12. I forget the keystroke to move between TABS but you could use that to move through the TABS as well. This sounds a little complicated but like most things it is fairly straight forward and gets easier the more you practice at it. Don't be afraid to create tables modify them then dump the document and begin again until you get just what you want. Re: [JAWS-Users] Formatting columns in word then getting jaws to readthe columns
Hello Kimber, To do a table in Word 2013, do the following, Press alt to go to the ribbons. Arrow right or left til you get to insert. Go down arrow and you will find insert table. Press enter and it wil say dropdown list or something like that. Press enter or space bar. Then you wil find a list of different table you can creat such as 1x1, 1x2. and so on then 2x1, 2x2 and so on. The first number refers to number of rows, the second the number of conumns. For example, 1x2, would be one row and two columns. I hope this helps. At the following link, you'll find a webpage where you can contact her to confirm that her 2013 book provides similar instructions. To place an order, you may have to do a little more searching, but you'll be on the right website. I have no connection with her or her company other than having purchased her textbooks: http://www.blind.training/sample-page/access-technology-trainer-certification-course/25-2 -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kimber Gardner Sent: Tuesday, March 01, 2016 12:48 PM To: jaws-users-list Subject: [JAWS-Users] Formatting columns in word then getting jaws to read the columns Hi All, Hoping someone can help me out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Turn off hidden characters
The pad is the cause but I have an HP laptop and it does not have a simple toggle for turning on and off the mouse pad. My Asus was very simple and this may be my first and last HP computer. I would think there would be a way to easily disable/enable the mouse pad. this way you can enable it just when it is needed, unless you also use screen magnification. BTW, it is really referred to as a track pad, the mouse pad refers to those pads you'd get to facilitate using an optical or ball mouse. On 2/29/2016 10:50 PM, wayne smith wrote: > Thanks for this. Re: [JAWS-Users] Formatting columns in word then getting jaws to read the columns
Using a 3 column table is best. Column A is the description of the item, Column B is the A column of related info for the Item, and Column C is the B info for the item. Each row would contain the associated information for a single item. Depending on how wordy your information is, you might consider having your paper landscape instead of the default of portrait. Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with instructions on how to accomplish this in Office 2013 as I've never use it. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences, three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your message above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they get to your message. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 650 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then the server will remove your email address automatically. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know
