[JAWS-Users] which is the best synthesizer and voice to use with Jaws? Vocalizer Expressive or Vocalizer direct?
Hi every one, I would like to know which is the best synthesizer and voice to use with Jaws. I have never tried a synthesizer except Eloquence but now I am thinking of downloading more voices both Vocalizer Expressive and Vocalizer direct. Which among these is the best choice? Hoping to hear from you soon Thanks -- A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness; but still will keep a bower quiet for us, and a sleep full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws System Requirements
Hi, my first recommendation is to stay away from HP. yes, Del is a top brand along with Asus and Lenovo but finally when selecting a laptop it’s up to you. On 3/13/2016 10:09 AM, Tom Behler wrote: Hello, all. I'm getting ready to purchase a new laptop computer, and want to be sure I get one that is adequate for Jaws. I currently use Jaws 16, and my SMA covers Jaws 17. So I will likely put Jaws 17 on the new computer. I realize that any new laptop will have Windows 10 as its operating system, and am prepared to begin learning to use Jaws with that new operating system. My question is this: What should I be looking for in a laptop? I found the following system requirements on the Freedom Scientific web site, but wonder whether those are absolute minimum requirements: Summary: Software and hardware specifications for JAWS table with 2 columns and 7 rows Description Specification JAWS Home Use Edition and JAWS Professional WindowsR 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows ServerR 2012, and Windows Server 2008 Processor speed Minimum 1.5 GHz processor Memory (RAM) 4 GB recommended (64-bit) 2 GB recommended (32-bit) Required hard disk space 20 MB to 690 MB required per voice for installing Vocalizer Expressive, Vocalizer Direct, or RealSpeak Solo Direct voices (file sizes will vary depending on the voice installed) Video A display adapter capable of at least 800 x 600 screen resolution with 16-bit color (1024 x 768 screen resolution with 32-bit color recommended) Sound Windows compatible sound card (for speech) table end Any specific recommendations would be appreciated. Are there certain brands of laptops I should stay away from? Right now, I'm thinking of either an HP or a Dell. Hi Again Tom, I forgot to mention that, although I don't use a laptop, my wife has been using Lenovo laptops for several years, & we have never had a problem with either 1! I've also heard many good reviews of Toshiba Satellite laptops. Anyways since I don't use a laptop other than keeping my wife's computer clean & updated, I should keep my keyboard quiet! LOL Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws System Requirements
Hi Tom, Windows 10 Pro is usually suggested. with this version you can choose what updates you want to install. With other Windows 10 versions, from what I understand, they download & install all updates automatically. Depending on what or how hard you plan on using your laptop computer for, getting a minimum of 8 GB of RAM would keep you on top of the curve, but you could probably go with as little as 4 GB. of quality / latest RAM, DD4. Again, depending on how hard you're going to work your computer going with a I-5 Intel processor / or an equilvalent AMD processor should be good. Soundcard & Videocard options I'll won't chime in on. The suggestions above are suggestions made to me by a couple of computer savvy people after asking for input on having a desktop computer built for Windows 10 for myself. Take care.
