[JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Hi list, I posted this question a few days ago, but didn't see it appear on the list. So I am resending it. I am about to upgrade my windows7 desktop to windows10 before the free upgrade option runs out at the end of the month. From what i understand. We have to uninstall all versions of Jaws etc running on our computers. Do the windows10 upgrade and then install jaws again. Is this correct? If so, how are we meant to run the upgrade if we don't have any speech? In addition, do we need to use the FS uninstall tool as mentioned? If so, do we run that after uninstalling Jaws? Or do we use that to uninstall jaws? O! and usually we get told not to choose the remove shared componants option when uninstalling Jaws. Since they want us to remove all versions of Jaws. Should I choose this option this time? And are there any other things I should do when upgrading to windows10? Re: [JAWS-Users] need a jaws compatible video converter;
The problem is that Kevin is looking for an actual editor, not just a converter. After looking at Video Pad, I see that is less compatible with JAWS than I remembered...sorry Kevin for misleading you. I too, am seeking something with which to capture video, do very basic editing, add soundtrack etc. I'm hoping that someone has an idea here. Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Hi, I would check online as I heard that those using Adaptive Software (e.g. screen readers, Magnifiers don't apply to the July 29th cut off date. It appears that we have longer. Not sure if we have a later deadline or if we have no deadline at all, but I do know, as I have heard it on many podcasts, that those using adaptive software will not lose the chance to update to Windows 10 for free after July 29th. Just thought I would share this with everyone. Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Not sure if you've been informed, though it's been posted several times over the course of a few months, there is no deadline for persons using assistive technology to upgrade to Windows 10. Assistive technology users can do this anytime from now until the end of eternity, or Microsoft says so, which ever comes first. Since you use Jaws, that is considered assistive technology, and so you're not subject to the July 29 deadline. Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible media player other than windows
Hello Annie: I long for MaPlEr which was my preferred player and worked in Win 7 and whatever Jaws I had then, but does not work with Win 10 and Jaws 17 that I am running now. It was the only program that would not work when I switched to Win 10. Unfortunatly, MaPlEr is no longer updated or supported, quite a shame, it was great for us totally blind users. It worked very well with Jaws and you could load playlists, switch from song to song with up or down arrows and go forward or backward within a song with the right and left arrows; very convenient for listening to tutorials. It came from Germany and its developer went on to other things. [JAWS-Users] Jaws Reporting Cap On Capital Letters
Hi All, The other day list member Jim wanted to know if he could make Jaws report, Cap, on capital letters instead of using the default pitch sound change setting. I was just wondering, Jim were you able to make that settings change in the Settings Center default all applications / Speech and Sound Schemes? Thanks much. Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Hi Jason, below are some instructions for upgrading to W-10. Please read through them a few times. If you use the Open book software uninstall it before upgrading to W-10, then reinstall it when you are upgraded to W-10. Upgrading to Windows 10 with jaws 16 or 17. go to: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Windows10Upgrade Download the tool called utility tool, leave it in your download folder. Download jaws 16.0.4350 or Jaws 17, leave it in your download folder for future use. Download the Microsoft media creation tool at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 On this web page, Go to download link now, Microsoft will determine if you have a 64 or 32 bit system, they are both built into the tool. Download the tool and save it to your download folder for future use. Leave all three of these downloads in your download folder. This next step, you may be able to skip, by running the media creation tool it should accomplish this for you. Now, if you have not reserved windows 10, please do so. press enter on the get windows 10 icon in the notification area. go down the page and fill in your email address ext. this gives you a verification email. Now, restart your computer. check for updates, install any updates, restart to make sure you have all the latest updates. Now you are ready to begin the upgrade to windows 10. Run the jaws utility tool, this will get rid of any jaws fragmented files and so on from your system. Tip, after running the F S tool, any time you restart your computer, you will get a message from Jaws saying:. The mirror drivers are configured incorrectly, press the spacebar on this message. In w-10, Jaws does not use the mirror drivers, that is the reason for this message. Next, Run the media creation tool. yes, for your users account warning. Choose, update this computer now and press enter. you are now in an ongoing and updating dialog which says: Windows 10 is being downloaded, continue using your computer. This could take anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your download speed. When it is done downloading, it will go through several screens itself updating your computer and will get it ready for windows 10. Next, there will be a screen asking you to except the license agreement, check the yes and press enter on next. Again, the program will run through several screens by itself. Next, press enter on install. now you will have no speech, this install takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. After 1 hour, press the Windows key+enter key to turn on narrator. Wait for a few minutes if it does not come on right away. Almost done. press the next button. choose express settings. press the next button. if done right, in about 10 to 15 minutes, jaws will come on talking on the desktop in your new w-10 PC. Now, this is very important, uninstall and reinstall jaws 16 or 17. This will give you the maximum performance in the w-10 environment. Tips on how to do this. Go to programs and features, press enter on Jaws 16 or 17. Say yes, for your user's account message. Uninstall Jaws, Keeping shared settings and personal settings. If the Jaws dialog does not tell you to restart, Turn Narrator on, Windows key+enter, restart your computer. Wait the appropriate time for restarting, turn Narrator back on, Windows key+enter. Go to your download folder where you have already put the latest Jaws 16 or 17, set up file. Press enter on the Jaws setup file. Follow the Jaws prompts, to install Jaws 16 or 17. After reinstalling jaws, no need for a restart here, jaws will come on talking with all your settings, except for 2 of them. Redo your shortcut key, control+ALT+j. Redo the setting to have jaws come on at the log-on screen. All your other settings will be remembered by Jaws. For whatever reason if the media tool fails the first time. Check for updates, restart, and run the tool again. In w-8.1, this method usually works the first time. In w-7, you may have to repeat this method two times. It is a little more difficult going from w-7, to w-10, then from w-8.1 to w-10. There are more drivers which much be updated by Microsoft for your w-7 computer to upgrade to w-10. After completing your upgrade to w-10, read my text file, called, Windows 10 and Jaws, complete guide TXT. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jason Smith Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2016 6:17 AM To: jaws-users-list Subject: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10 Hi list, I posted this question a few days ago, but didn't see it appear on the list. Since you use Jaws, that is considered assistive technology, and so you're not subject to the July 29 deadline. So I am resending it. I am about to upgrade my windows7 desktop to windows10 before the free upgrade option runs out at the end of the month. From what i understand. We have to uninstall all versions of Jaws etc running on our computers. Do the windows10 upgrade and then install jaws again. Is this correct? If so, how are we meant to run the upgrade if we don't have any speech? In addition, do we need to use the FS uninstall tool as mentioned? If so, do we run that after uninstalling Jaws? Or do we use that to uninstall jaws? O! and usually we get told not to choose the remove shared componants option when uninstalling Jaws. Since they want us to remove all versions of Jaws. Should I choose this option this time? And are there any other things I should do when upgrading to windows10? [JAWS-Users] sapi4-sapi5 bridge was Re: what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
I also left microsoft some feedback through their windows10 app asking them to include a sapi4 to sapi5 bridge in a future windows update, that way sapi5-only-apps such as jaws could see and use both sapi4 and sapi5 tts engines. hi Could you all who want more voices for jaws and other apps please contact freedom scientific and ask them to include a version of international tts with any jaws install even jaws demo which i use, an international tts utility that lets sapi4 voices be seen and used by sapi5 only applications also please ask them that this international tts should be a free utility and have no watermark and no timed trial limitations makes sense since nearly all sapi4 voices are free. then we could use voices such as TruVoice and microsoft mary mike and sam with jaws. thanks Josh -- sent from mozilla thunderbird For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Sure, I'm assuming they use a similar way just as Adobe Acrobat does. - Original Message - From: "Scorpio" To: Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2016 9:05 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10 I haven't seen any mention of how this fact is known to Microsoft, though I am leaning towards Microsoft having a built-in detector, but once I hear of how they plan to do this, I will let you know.
