I'd recommend only downloading "important" updates. Skip the recommended updates. iI checked the option in the Windows Update control panel to "Check for updates but let me install them". Still all of this caution did not prevent the Get Windows 10 onslaught. On 9/20/2016 5:48 PM, John Fitzgerald wrote: Are there any other updates that I need to look out for? Re: [JAWS-Users] an optional windows update Kb 3,184,143
Are there any other updates that I need to look out for? I have updates turned off and have not updated for quite awhile to keep from being infested by the get windows 10 bug. Now that the W 10 flap is over I'd like to update but am not sure which one's to look out for. I am running windows 7 and jaws 16. You can also, Windows-key+i=settings, Tab to the listview, Enter on, system, Tab to the listview, Arrow and enter on, Default apps, Now tab you will eventually hear, browser, You should find IE there. Or, Open IE, tools/options, Programs tab, NOW TAB ENTER ON SET PROGRAMS This will take you to control panel, to the set default programs. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike O'Brien Sent: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 11:54 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] In Windows 10, how can I truly make Internet Explorer the default web browser? Hi Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, the results were the same when I attempted to make Internet Explorer the default browser using the control panel as when I had used the Default Programs app. I also tried changing the default browser back to Edge, which allowed me to open that browser with no dialog when I opened a link in an email. Then I used the Control Panel to again make IE the default browser. But again every time I open a link in at email I first get the dialog that says; How do you want to open this web site? When I press tab in this dialog, I Hear; use the default browser list box Internet Explorer When I press tab again I hear; Always use this app to open www.whatever check box not checked. So I press space to check this and then tab to the OK button and press enter. But nothing changes. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: Monday, September 19, 2016 05:26 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] In Windows 10, how can I truly make Internet Explorer the default web browser? Re: [JAWS-Users] In Windows 10, how can I truly make Internet Explorer the default web browser?
Hi Mike, See if the thread below will help you: Original Message From: Ann Medlar Hi all, Using windows 10 Jaws 16 latest version. Anyone know how to make IE default rather than Edge? Edge I believe is inaccessible. When I press alt key I get no menu options. Am I correct? I went into IE Tools options program page enter on make IE default then okay. I pinned IE to start and task bars. I have a call into MS accessibility help. I called FS on another issue and was told to call MS because it is a windows issue not a speech issue... On and on. Slogging through and now have outlook excel and word on desktop. Ann From: jim Press windows key+I, for settings. Press enter on system. arrow down to default apps, press enter. Tab 7 times, across and make your changes to various default programs. You will want to use insert+tab, to repeat some controls... Jim From: Ann Medlar Thanks, your method easier than Microsoft. Had to change to small icons. They said control panel, default program, set programs as default, tab to list of programs arrow down to IE tab to default. I'll save your method. I need to set up another PC next month. Hope to keep good notes. Ann Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool.
