Re: [JAWS-Users] Unzipping files
Wayne, I don't know for certain if winrar will let you unzip with 7Zip, but you can easily find out. If it works, you'll be in good shape. Place focus on the file, then press the applications key. Arrow down. If 7Zip comes up, press enter. You'll be given several options. I like the one that says "Extract to [name of current folder]." It creates a new folder with a similar name as the zip file but without the .Zip extension, and all the unzipped files are contained in it. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of wayne smith Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2017 11:49 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Unzipping files I tried right clicking and there were many options but extract files was not one of them. [JAWS-Users] Partition Assistant
Hi Mike! As it turns out, the probable reason partition assistant didn't work was because my laptop's BIOS isn't smart enough to bypass non bootable media in devices in the boot order. I had the new hard drive hooked up to a USB port, and of course it wasn't bootable because it was blank. Unfortunately I couldn't simply unplug it so that the pre Windows part of partition assistant could run because then it wouldn't find the target drive. So I changed my boot order so that the internal hard drive is the first device. So now it might actually work. Later... Re: [JAWS-Users] Is there any specific guide for Jaws with MS word?
Probably the most comprehensive guides on using JAWS with Word are written by CathyAnne Murtha. I'm not sure if she still has guides going back to Word 2010 and 2007, but you could Google to find out. There will be a charge. Keep in mind that most commands are Microsoft's, but JAWS does add other significant ones. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mohib Anwar Rafay Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2017 1:16 PM To: jaws-users-list Subject: [JAWS-Users] Is there any specific guide for Jaws with MS word? Re: [JAWS-Users] Kindle with Jaws
Here is the details. Note that you this only works with books that have "Enhanced Typesetting". Amazon Kindle App Support JAWS now supports reading books in Amazon's Kindle for PC app version 1.19 and later, eliminating the need for users to have to install a special Kindle for PC with Accessibility Plugin. This enables users to access books purchased through the Amazon Kindle store right on their Windows PC using both speech and braille. Books can be navigated using all standard reading commands including reading by character, word, line, paragraph, and continuously with Say All. As JAWS reads, pages turn automatically so you can enjoy a book without interruption. JAWS can only access Kindle books that support Enhanced Typesetting. The product details for the book on the Amazon web site indicates if Enhanced Typesetting is enabled. This exposes the necessary information to screen readers and provides access to the book content. Tip: Pressing CTRL+HOME or CTRL+END while reading a Kindle book moves to the top or bottom of the current page instead of the top or bottom of the document as in other applications. To move to the beginning or end of the book, you can use the Go to Location dialog box which is accessed using the Kindle command CTRL+G. Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessing an adobe job app.
Hi Judy, Have you been able to do anything with this? If not, I did a little research, and it seems that online, it is not accessible. But if you print it to pdf, you can actually read the document. I don't think it is fillable, at least it wasn't in Acrobat DC, but you could either print it and have someone sighted fill it in, or there is a chance it is fillable using the full version of Acrobat. I think the creator of the documents, Scott, skipped a step or two, and that is why it is not readable online. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll try to help. Good luck! Below is a link to our town and on it is a link to the application for Recruitment Coordinator. When clicking on the link to apply, the Adobe doc comes up, but not editable, as far as I can see. One of the city employees in HR says it is fillable online. I'm going to try other browsers to see if they can pull up an editable adobe doc. Right now, I have tried this with Internet Explorer, and am using Windows 10 creator edition. Thanks for any ideas. Here is the link to the job, and on this page is the link to the app itself. http://www.tfid.org/Jobs.aspx?UniqueId=94&From=All&CommunityJobs=False&JobID =Recruitment-Coordinator-95 Thanks once again for your collective wisdom. Re: [JAWS-Users] Vipre
I will likely purchase Vipre soon, but it is good to know that someone else is getting the results I am. At least, I do know that it is working and is removing threats. At least, the rest of the interface reads well. -Original Message- From: Kevin Sent: Friday, June 16, 2017 11:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Vipre I haven't been able to have the scan announced , the only way I know it's scanning is because I arrow up and down and jaws announces pause/resume scan or cancel scan. one thing vipre has is a view details button which is a check box.you know the scan is finished when you have no more pause/resume scan or the cancel button. to get the details of the scan I tabbed and usually it says nothing was cleaned. I'm running vipre anti-virus 2016 the full 2017 hasn't been released yet! -Original Message- From: Tom Fairhurst Sent: Friday, June 16, 2017 7:27 PM To: List Jaws Subject: [JAWS-Users] Vipre Can anyone tell the progress of a scan with JAWS 18 using Windows 7? To be honest I have tried THE LATEST VERSIONS OF Window- Eyes, JAWS, and NVDA. I simply can’t get this information. There appears to be a pane that none of the screen readers can read. Maybe it’s blank.
