I believe it also changes how incoming messages are displayed, but I can't confirm that. In outlook go to the File menu by pressing Alt _+ f. Arrow down to options and press Enter. Arrow down to Mail and press tab Arrow Down once and you will find a combo box that displays what format Outlook is currently using to compose messages. Arrow down in the combo box and three buttons will be available. They are plain text, Rich Text and HTML Arrow down to the format and press the enter key on the button of the format you want To confirm this change, you need to press the OK button at the very bottom of this list. You are still in a very long list of options. You can tab through all of these to get to the OK button. However, from where you are it is easier to go backwards through the items. Hold down your shift key and press tab until you hear OK. Release the shift key and press enter on that OK button. If you feel like you made a mistake in this menu, worry not. Hit the Escape key and the menu will vanish and no changes will be made. You will just have to start over. Note, my setting here was Rich Text and I had no issues with activating an HTML that was part of a message I was reading. Tom, Try one method for creating links and another for clicking on links, as follows: When adding a link to a message, be sure to press the return key right after the link's last character. I believe Miriam made this suggestion yesterday, and I've been doing it for a long time. Links are not shown as links without the return character at the end. When trying to open a link, right-arrow over the link's first character before pressing enter. Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually
Hi Our experiences are the same. When you install JAWS there is no hot key for that version. So you have to edit the JAWS shortcut to add a hot key. What I meant was that you cannot just edit the shortcut for the version of JAWS you installed using a combination of keys that is assigned to another shortcut. Although I haven't made that mistake for a long time, it used to be that using the same key combination would mean that neither shortcut would work. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Monday, July 03, 2017 02:19 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually Mike, for the record, this is not my experience. Control+alt+j is probably the most used hotkey for starting JAWS. But a hot key is always assigned to a version of JAWS while it is installed. So assuming you're going to install JAWS 18 now, next fall will bring JAWS 19. So to again use control+alt+J with JAWS19 to start JAWS, you have to manually change the control+alt+hot key or delete the hotkey or uninstall JAWS 18. Rather than assigning hot keys to start JAWS, I prefer using the run dialog to start JAWS manually. To use the run dialog, press Windows key+r and when the run dialog appears type jaws18 or jaws19 etc. and press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Fernando Gregoire Sent: Monday, July 03, 2017 11:39 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws manually Hi Mack, When you complete JAWS installation, after the Activation dialog, it opens the JAWS Startup Wizard. Amon other initial settings, you can specify wetter or not JAWS starts automatically on Logon screen and/or after you log in, as well as if JAWS will be displayed as a window on the taskbar (the window have a menu bar for accessing various settings and utilities) or as an icon in the system tray (right side near the clock at the bottom of the screen); in that last case, items of the menu bar are shown as sub menus on a context menu. To quickly access that set of options and utilities, regardless the way in which displaying of JAWS program window is configured, press INSERT+J. If you dismissed the Startup Wizard or you accidentally configured something in a wrong way, despite the fact that those options and more are available in various JAWS dialogs and utilities like the Basics dialog or the Settings Center, you can reopen this wizard by going to the Help menu or sub menu (ALT+H) and then pressing Z to quickly go to Startup Wizard. If you want to configure automatic starting without following the wizard, go to the Options menu or sub menu and then to Basics. In this dialog, tab to the Launch JAWS at Startup button and press SPACEBAR to open a second dialog box in which you can configure automatic starting up on both stages as you wish. Note that setting up launching on the Logon screen or for all users require administrative privileges; therefore, if your user account is a standard one, you'll only see the combo box to specify if JAWS will start automatically on that account. If you have Windows Vista or newer, you can also control these settings through the Windows Ease of Access Center that brings up by pressing WINDOWS+U, specifically through the Use the Computer without a Display WINDOWS+link for the current user, and the one that says Change Administrative Settings for setting up the behavior in the Logon screen. Unlike other screen readers, although JAWS automatically adds a Desktop shortcut, that shortcut does not include a keyboard shortcut by default. To add it one, find the shortcut in your Desktop, press ALT+ENTER to open the shortcut's properties dialog, tab to the Shortcut Key hot key edit, press the hotkey you want, tab to the OK button and activate it with SPACEBAR. Ok David. Here's what's really interesting. In your last message, you said: For example, With pressing enter you get, http://www.jaws-users.com/help without pressing enter you get, http://www.jaws-users.com/help In my Outlook, both links read identically. In other words, there's no hyperlink designation with either example; just the raw text of the link. This leads me to believe that there's something going on with how my Outlook 2016 or Jaws is reading e-mails. I think we're slowly getting to the bottom of this. I need to head out now, but will try some of the other suggestions I received when I get back. So, please keep those thoughts and suggestions coming. Hello Tom; Sorry, I did miss type; Hello Tom; I also forgot to mention, when placing a link into a message, one needs to press enter after the link. So, perhaps the reason why links aren't working for you is because of the way they're put into a message. I haven't been following this thread. So if what I have to say doesn't apply, then please ignore it. I was having trouble with hyperlinks in my email. I am using Outlook 10. With some of the hyperlinks that I would get in my email , email from AFB, for example, when I would click on the link it would take me to a page that would say something like, sorry that link was broken. Or something like that anyway. But the thing is that that kept happening but not to all of the email links that I would receive in my email. So I call Microsoft because one of the emails that they sent me wouldn't work. After some investigating, the tech found that the problem was that email links were too long and Outlook 10 couldn't handle emails of that length. If I would get an Outlook version that was not so old the email links would work. I found that If I forwarded my emails to my outlook dot com account and open them in the Mail app all worked . So I suppose that I will have to update my Outlook 10 to a newer release. So, like I said, this might not be what you have been talking about. But if something like this is happening to others, this is the answer. Get a later version of Outlook. Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail
Hello Tom, I don't use Outlook 2016 but apparently the problem of hyperlinks ceasing to work is a known problem to Microsoft. There is a Microsoft fix that can be used. Further down in this message is a link to the Microsoft site, which you can select and copy into the address bar of Internet Explorer. After the link to the fix I am pasting information I found on the web with suggestions for getting the links working again. It seems that if you recently changed your default browser to Chrome or Firefox this problem can arise. One thing you might do first is reset your Internet Explorer. You can do that by going into Internet Explorer, pressing Alt with T, using up arrow to find the Internet options and pressing enter to open the options. Use CTRL with tab until on the advanced page. Tab to the reset button and use spacebar. Follow the prompts. After resetting Internet Explorer close Outlook if it is opened and reopen it or just open it if it is not running. Check to see if hyperlinks are working. You might also consider doing a system restore to a point before the problem started. A couple other suggestions include uninstalling Chrome or Firefox if you recently installed them and try reinstalling. A couple of the methods shown in the article include working in the Windows registry. If you are not comfortable doing so then you should likely avoid those suggestions or at least treat them as last resorts. Here is a link to the site with the Microsoft fix it tool. There is a download button for the tool on the page. When the page loads press B until you find the download button and use it to start the process. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/310049/hyperlinks-are-not-working-in-outlook Here is the info from the page showing different possible resolutions. "How to fix hyperlinks not working in Outlook We will start with the easiest troubleshooting steps that take the least time and effort, so it makes sense to follow the below methods in order and after trying each solution check whether you can open links in Outlook again. These solutions work for all versions of Microsoft Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 and 2003. Use the Microsoft Fix it tool Luckily for us, Microsoft guys are aware of the "hyperlinks in Outlook not working" issue and they've already worked out a fix. So, the first thing you should try is download and run Microsoft's Fix It tool for your version of Windows. The fix for Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP is available here. And even if you are "I will make it myself!" kind of person, I'd strongly advise that you let Microsoft fix it for you in this particular case. Firstly, because it's a faster way, secondly, because it is much safer and thirdly, if something goes wrong, you know with certainty who to blame : ) So, give it a shot and if the fix has worked for you, congratulate yourself and you can close this page. If you are still unable to open links in Outlook, then please keep reading and try the other methods. Set Internet Explorer and Outlook as default programs 1.On Windows 7, you can set the default programs by going to the Control Panel > Default Programs > click Set your default programs. Go to Control Panel > Default Programs to set your default programs. 2.Choose Internet Explorer in the Programs list and click the Set this program as default link. Set Internet Explorer as default program. 3.Find Microsoft Outlook in the Programs list and set it as default too. On Windows XP, you can do the same by going to Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs > Default Programs > Set your default programs. An alternative way to access the "Set your default programs" dialog is by clicking Internet Explorer's Tools icon > Internet Options > Programs tab > Set programs. You can also set your default programs by using the Internet Explorer options. Restart Outlook and check whether hyperlinks are working. If they fail to open again, proceed to the next method. Reinstall Chrome or Firefox If links stopped working in your Outlook after you had uninstalled Google Chrome (or Firefox) while it was set as your default browser, try setting IE as default before uninstalling another browser to prevent the problem. Here is what you do: 1.Reinstall Chrome or Firefox, whichever was set as your default browser earlier. The download links along with the detailed instructions are available here: Download Google Chrome Download Firefox 2.Set Chrome / Firefox as the default browser. 3.Check if hyperlinks work in your Outlook. 4.If you can open Outlook links now, then you can safely set Internet Explorer as the default browser. To do this, open Internet Explorer and click the Tools icon > Internet options. Then navigate to the Programs tab, and click the Make default button. Click OK and close Internet Explorer. Set Internet Explorer as

After some investigating, the tech found that the problem was that email links were too long and Outlook 2010 couldn't handle email links of that length. If I would get an Outlook version that was not so old the email links would work. I found that If I forwarded my emails to my outlook dot com account and open them in the Mail app all worked . So I suppose that I will have to update my Outlook 2010 to a newer release. So, like I said, this might not be what you have been talking about. But if something like this is happening to others, this is the answer. Get a later version of Outlook. Good fourth of July to all of you. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Ely Sent: Tuesday, July 04, 2017 11:22 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail Tom and All, Below is a link to a Microsoft support page that directly addresses Tom's problem. why do you want to uninstall it. many crashes may be eliminated if you erase the cookies ,history and cache. if you just want to have a fresh installation you can press shift enter on the firefox icon and run it in safe mode. here you can run firefox without any add ons to see if this will fix some problem you may be haveing. then you can track down the add on that may be bad. or you can set firefox back to the original state when it was first installed. no bookmarks, no add ons, no custom color settings or stored passwords etc. and yes you would have to reinstall your add ons if you can still get them. what i do is download the actual files so i can re install them if i have to. -Original Message- From: Kevin Sent: Tuesday, July 04, 2017 11:40 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Firefox if I uninstall firefox with revo, will I remove all of the addons with it! Reinstall Chrome or Firefox If links stopped working in your Outlook after you had uninstalled Google Chrome (or Firefox) while it was set as your default browser, try setting IE as de

[JAWS-Users] List View NOT DETAIL View
Hi, Using Win 10 Creator, I cannot get list view to work only the detail view, in detail view you have to tab to move around in your documents and other situations, I always have used my up/down arrows, which makes most tasks comfortable to perform. First letter quick navigation works well, I preform the command alt V and tab down the list and the only view is detail view. Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail
Yes, Tom said he was using Windows 7. Here is his original message: "Hello, everyone. For some reason, I have recently lost the ability to directly access links in an e-mail, and have also lost the ability to create huyperlinks in e-mails I send out. Regarding the creation of hyperlinks in e-mails I send out, I used to be able to do this by simply hitting the enter key at the end of the involved link. Does anyone know how I can enable the huyperlink function in Outlook e-mail? I'm using Office 365, Outlook 2016, and Windows 7 here with Jaws 18." -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Whitehead Sent: July 4, 2017 4:07 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail Hello; The link you provided; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/310049/hyperlinks-are-not-working-in-outlook is only for; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/310049/hyperlinks-are-not-working-in-outlook For Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 Not windows 10.
