Hi, I wouldn't worry too much about tandem versus non-tandem versions in your case. (The appropriate tandem settings come with the Home Edition when you install.) Is your Windows Operating System 64-bit or 32-bit? (Most contemporary systems sport 64-bit.) Depending on which it is, choose either the 32-bit or the 64-bit Home Edition of JAWS. (The 32 or 64 is in the file name of the version you download.) A 32-bit version of JAWS will not run on a 32-bit Windows. -Original Message- From: Sue J. Am wondering about the regular Jaws verses the non tandem could someone please explain? Back in July I got the home edition and would like to download the latest version but which one do I choose? I am not on a work related network firewall and when I did check the home edition on my computer under utilities seems like the tandem section is available. I just want to make sure if I did install Jaws which one would it be cause when looking at the downloads page I see there are two sets being that the first set is the regular version and the second set of files are the non tandem versions. Mrne, Can it be that win-d or win-m is not working? Or try: press ins-3 first then win-m. Ins-3 will tell Jaws that the next key is for windows. Same as ins-b in Window-Eyes. You can also minimize programs bij pressing alt-space and choose Minimize in that menu. Hope this helps. It's odd, but I've never had this Firefox hanging problem that others are speaking about. I just turn the virtual cursor off so I can navigate the tree properly. I should get used to using control-I, really, because when going through my bookmarks with the other key command I always notice ones that I should probably delete, and then get annoyed when delete doesn't work. [JAWS-Users] Fwd: Tutorial on Using the Google Chrome Browser with JAWS! From David Moore
Hi all, Just like the Edge tutorial, I take you through using the Google Chrome Browser with using JAWS. I tell you what JAWS says as I do each step with the Chrome Browser. Google Chrome works very well with JAWS. Please enjoy, and give me a lot of feedback. Here is the Chrome tutorial pasted in the message right here: Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser By David Moore This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome. I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they both work the same in Chrome. Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build. I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome. There should be a shortcut on your desktop. Section One: Launching Chrome: One way to Launch Chrome, is to press the Windows key or CTRL+Escape and type Chrome in the search edit field, and press enter when you hear JAWS say Chrome. However, since you have already downloaded Chrome, You will have a shortcut icon on your desktop. So next, find the shortcut for Chrome on your desktop, and press enter to open Chrome. The short cut will actually say Google Chrome, so press G to find the Google Chrome icon on your desktop. The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise the window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise, and you will get undesirable results. Section Two: Bringing up a web site. Press CTRL+L or Alt+D and type the following: www.freedomscientific.com The Freedom Scientific web site comes up very quickly. All navigation commands like: H for heading, E for edit field, C for combo box, and so on all work just the same in Chrome. Section Three: The Virticle Chrome menu: I will press the Alt key. The Chrome menu is open. This is a very large virticle menu that you just keep pressing up and down arrow through. I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu. New Tab, CTRL+T. You can press that command right from the web site you are on. New Window, CTRL+N You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming here. New incognito Window. History sub menu. I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu! History, CTRL+H So, there is a key command for reading your history. You can read a few sites you were on right here. I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu. Downloads, CTRL+J There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with Chrome. Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu. I will press right arrow, to open this. I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D That command will bookmark the page you are reading. Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to see. I do not want that. Here is the important one. manage bookmarks The command is, CTRL+Shift+O In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome. On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to your computer, so you can back them up. That is all for manage bookmarks. Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings. press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE, and Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their corresponding folders. Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down. Very important! Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices I mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks. If this happens, I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these choices. Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved bookmarks, and enter on the desired one. To save a web site as a bookmark, Just press CTRL+D and press enter, and your bookmark is saved. I will now press left arrow, to close the Bookmarks sub menu! I will continue to down arrow through this virticle Chrome menu that we entered by just pressing alt. The next few are very self explanatory. The next one I will mension, is the more tools submenu. I will press right arrow on this. I hear Save Page as, and the command, CTRL+S. Next, Save to desktop. This allows you to save the favorite of the page right to your desktop. This is how you do this in Chrome, instead of doing this in the file menu in IE. It is hidden under this more tools submenu. Clear Browsing data, and there is the key command, CTRL+Shift+Dele

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 2018 installation
don't try to re save the default.jss script file though. if you do jaws will start telling you the default.jss file is missing and you will get keyboard errors when you press the arrow keys. this has happened to me 3 times now after i merged the settings. once with the beta and twice with the full 2017 upgrade. the old sscript file from v18 compiled with no errors in v18. i had to fine the factory script file and paste it back into the default location to stop the errors. That is how it is suppose to work. After you reboot. After rebooting to finish the process, JAWS came up with several problems. One was reversion to Eloquence instead of my preferred synthesizer. Another was that JAWS wasn't in my system tray, even though that selection was checked in the JAWS "Basics" dialog. However, a second reboot appears to have fixed both problems. [JAWS-Users] Hotkey to move to the next field
Hi All, My old brain has left me again so I am going to ask the question here if I can explain it. When I open the ACB newsletter in Outlook it has between the articles. I do a ctrl+F which brings up the find dialog box. I put the in the find field and press enter. Then I use to press a shortcut key to move to each in the email. For the life of me I cannot remember the shortcut key to move to the next . I thought it was ctrl+F3 but that did not work. Does anyone know this shortcut key to help this old brain? Re: [JAWS-Users] System Configuration Refresher
Jerry, there's more than one method. The one I use, just because I remember it, is to press Windows key+pause (top-right key on a regular desktop keyboard). You need to down-arrow through the information with the JAWS cursor. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jyandt.mar...@comcast.net Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2017 10:21 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] System Configuration Refresher Morning all. Re: [JAWS-Users] System Configuration Refresher
Just go to c:\ and see if you have a folder called Program Files (X86) in addition to Program Files. If you have both folders, yours is 64-bit, if you only have the latter, it is 32-bit. The former folder is where it puts the 32-bit programs when the computer is 64-bit. [JAWS-Users] Message reading in Outlook 2010
I'm posting this in case it helps others. Some email I receive is set up in table form. I struggled with one just now because JAWS 2018 distracted me with information I didn't need and seemed to have difficulty reading the entire contents. I went to JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v and found two options under "Word," then "Tables," that I unchecked. One was for reading coordinates, the other for table detection. With both unchecked, JAWS read the message fine. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] using chrome with jaws tutorial
I just checked the JAWS help topics and training sections in JAWS 2018 help, only to find there's still no mention of Chrome. This is despite VFO's recent indications that JAWS now works with Chrome. In my experience, JAWS has serious limitations in handling Chrome. However, David Moore, a subscriber to this list, has put out a tutorial, and I'm sure he or someone else will post the link. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2017 8:06 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] using chrome with jaws tutorial is there such a guide? [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences, three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your message above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they get to your message. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 700 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then the server will remove your email address automatically. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Posting to a single address IE this list is the preferred acceptable practice as we do not allow cross posting. That is simply posting to more than one list or address in the same message. You can post the same message to multiple list, but not at the same time. Now to the matter of replying to a posted message: The proper practice is to simply hit the reply command in your respective email client, IE control + R is used quite often in many programs. Replying to all, for example control + shift + R in Windows Live Mail will only serve to get your message flagged by the server for having too many recipients. Then at that point your message gets held for one of us to accept or discard
Re: [JAWS-Users] differences between regular jaws verses non tandem kind of confused.
Just to clear this up, I believe you made a simple typing error at the end of your post. A 32 bit version of JAWS will not work on a 64 bit system even though many 32 bit programs will JAWS is an exception in this case. Also the 32 bit version has X86 in it's name to distinguish itself. -Original Message- From: Flor Lynch Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2017 9:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] differences between regular jaws verses non tandem kind of confused. Ward Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2017 5:02 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] differences between regular jaws verses non tandem kind of confused. Hello. Yes was reading the list someone mentioned more webinars. That would be really nice for us newbies. Plus walk throughs actual demos in doing stuff with jaws all up to date.
