My wife uses whatsapp to stay in contact with family and friends in other countries. She sends audio, video and photos for free and gets them in return. It is a good international tool, but, as you say, not as useful in this country(USA). i don't know about you. but with me i have to log off before i can switch between the normal and accessibility site. if i go to one site then type in the other without loging out it will automatically go to the last site i logged into the last time i used amazon. like i can log on to amazon.com/access. turn off the computer and type in amazon.com and it will still go to the accessibility site unless i logged out first. -Original Message- From: Judy Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2018 4:56 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon Accessibility Issue Okay, Rebecca, this is Judy and I went to both the regular Amazon.com and the Amazon.com/access sites. Your Account Amazon.com Your Account View Orders Choose Period: Open and recently shipped orders Continue Amazon Prime Manage Prime Membership Gift Cards Search Go Cart Your Account 1-Click Settings List & Registry Find a List or Registry Sign Out Help Home Legal Terms Several people said they could reach the Payment Options Link using IE11, JAWS 2010 and Windows 10. This is what my friend is using. But to test, this morning, I loaded IE11 and went back to Amazon. For me, it made no difference. I got the same page with the information copied above. I've gone to Amazon from the link on my desktop, as well as from a Google search, just in case that made a difference. It doesn't.. I wonder why some can access this and others of us cannot. Since email addresses change, and the expiration numbers on credit cards change every couple of years, or shipping addresses may change, we need access to the account information page. Admittedly it's got to be frustrating if results can differ, even when the operating system, browser and screen reader version are the same, but this is why I put this out on the JAWS Users' List to see if the problem my friend and I are having could be replicated. Thanks to those who responded, but if anyone is having similar issues, I'd like to know, and Amazon needs to be alerted so that they know how widespread the problem is. The next step would have been to go to the link Account Options But that link was nowhere to be found on the page. She called the Amazon disability number and spoke with someone. She finally got the credit card information updated with their help, but as they saw, she, using a screen reader, did not have access to that vital link. Perhaps we, as screen reader users, are taken to another site, one supposedly more accessible? when the screen reader is detected, because the woman assured her that the Account Options Link was there for her, as a sighted user. The woman filled out a form for their accessibility team, but if we are currently unable to access information that was available to us before, as it certainly was, then this is an issue that needs to be addressed by Freedom Scientific working with Amazon. Hi Rebecca/all, It may not be as relevant but I have problems with Amazon. This is a new computer I am using and wanted to reach my login page. I put in my userid, then password, and then I was prompted that they would need confirmation by me verifying the address, as the device was new. A code was supposed to have been sent, but, despite countless efforts and with all remaining mail traffic coming, I never received a mail from Amazon with the required code to insert. You have to be logged in or you can't get to that Account Options, as the Amazon Disability person referred to it, or to the Payment Options link. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 2018 won't keep focus with IE in some webpages
Hi. We've had an earlier thread on this subject. I've also written and spoken to VFO about it, but all they told me was to change certain JAWS quick settings that I want to keep for other purposes. I don't need to make these changes when using earlier versions of JAWS, which means I spend my day switching between versions. I've just written again to VFO tech support. I'd urge anyone else experiencing this problem to do the same because it's a significant flaw. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox reader view
Brian, You solved the reader view problem for me. Yes, alt-v followed by r works. I have a couple of follow-up questions for anyone experienced with this Firefox feature. First, when I close reader view with the alt-v, r toggle, JAWS goes silent for several seconds. Is that normal? Second, on an article I just tested, the second time through I couldn't get JAWS to start in reader view at the beginning of the article. I first read the entire article in reader view without the usual annoyances. Then I decided to read it a second time in order to experiment with pausing and re-reading this or that passage. However, JAWS put focus at a heading level 1 that happens to be below the article's beginning. No matter what I did, I couldn't get JAWS to go to the first few paragraphs unless I turned off reader view. Even here, after turning it off, I'd place focus at the beginning, then resume with reader view, only for JAWS to begin at that misleading heading 1 again. Any tips or tricks? On the one hand, it's nice to have a clean, mostly uninterrupted read. (I say "mostly" because picture captions and some other miscellaneous material are included.) but I'm used to navigating my way around articles without reader view. I need it to be fully workable if it's to be a time-saver. Thanks to everyone who posted, including Cristóbal whose suggestion that I needed to start at the beginning of the article and not the top of the page was one of those seemingly obvious things that made a difference. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Brian Lee Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2018 6:18 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox reader view Hello Adrian, You might want to try pressing Alt V followed by R. This should turn on and off the reader view. I have a CTRL Alt R shortcut key assigned to a Remote Incident Manager program and so when in Firefox I just use the view menu. For anyone interested in getting reader view to work in Chrome, it works quite well but needs some setting up. Here are some steps to follow for anyone wanting to use the reader view feature in Chrome: 1. Locate your shortcut for opening Chrome, whether it's on your taskbar, desktop or within the Start menu. Right-click it or use the application key and open Properties from the contextual menu. 2. Tab until focus is in the Target edit box. the file path for the Chrome application is shown in this field. 3. Add a space after the path text and then the following: --enable-dom-distiller 4. Tab to the Apply button and use spacebar or click Apply with the mouse. 5. Close down all instances of Chrome. Icons in the system tray such as Hangouts or Google Now will need to be closed. 6. Test out the Distill mode by opening Chrome from the shortcut you edited. Go to a page containing an article. Use the Alt key and up or down arrow to the “Distill page” menu item and press enter key. If using the mouse click the icon with three lines in the top right-hand corner and choose Distill page. To go out of Distill mode you can use Alt with left arrow key. This will load the page again in the usual manner. Take care. Take care.
