year from my bladder, but one has now returned this year. So I am in the

his sovereign will for my future. So let me thank all of you again for your

Hi Miriam,
Do you have the shortcut setup for your Jaws? Here are the steps to do that.
1. Press windows + M to go to your desktop.
2. Press the letter J until you hear Jaws 18.
3. Press the application key and arrow up one time and press enter on
properties.
4. Tab two times and you should hear short cut key. If it says none then
press the letter J
If it says shortcut key ctrl+alt+J then just press the escape key.
6. Now tab until you hear ok, then press enter. Another dialog box may come
up just press yes or continue then you should be done.

Now you should have a shortcut key so when you press ctrl+alt+J it should
start Jaws. Now if you use the other hotkey that now should work.

Hi all.
I have been experimenting with Google Chrome Browser, and I have found that
it is very accessible and easy to use. More than that, I can open the same
web site in half the time as with IE or Firefox. It never crashes, and it is
more stable than any other browser. It is the best browser when it comes to
streaming videos and other media by far. The video never pauses for example.
In IE, the same video pauses a few times for a few seconds. Also, Google
Chrome is the easiest browser to use. Yes, I am not kidding. Simply press
enter on the browser, and the home page opens. I have mine set to Google of
course. Now, just press alt and the screen reader will say chrome button. If
you press down arrow, every setting and menu you will ever need is in that
one vertical column. The history, delete history, book marks, are all in
that one vertical menu just by pressing the alt key on the home page. All
navigation JAWS short cut keys work in Google Chrome. I have not found
anything yet that is not accessible. Also, every JAWS key command works in
Chrome just like in IE. You can just press alt + D for the address bar for
example. I will continue to play around with Google Chrome a little more,
and I will be ready to do an Audio tutorial for you guys. You will not
believe just how much better Google Chrome is over any other browser. You
will hear it with your own ears when I send you the tutorial probably by
Friday. I know some of you will use Chrome as your default browser. God
bless and have a great night. Talk to all of you soon.

 Hi Sachin,
You didn't say which version of Windows you are using, but you can try
 this:
 1. Windows XP thru 8.1, press the key combination of Windows key + the
letter R, to open the run dialogue.
 2. Type the following without the quotes, control.
This will open the control panel.
 3. In Windows XP, press enter on Add/Remove Programs
In Windows 7 and 8 - 8.1 press enter on Programs and Features.
This should put you in a list of programs that can be uninstalled.
 Note:
I am not certain of the Programs and Features name in Windows 8-8.1,
 don't
have one of those systems in front of me right now.
 4. Look for Google Updater, and un-install it.
I can't verify for sure that this will do what you are trying to
 accomplish,
since I don't use Google's products, but I have seen this Updater on other
 systems I have serviced.
In Windows 7, a quicker way to access the list of programs is to type the
following in the start menu search box, and press enter:
 add/r

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems with Amazon.com. I do a
lot of shopping there, and the JAWS hanging problem is turning into a major
nuisance. When I access Amazon.com using Firefox 29, the first link at the
top of the home page is for accessing the version of Amazon.com optimized
for screen readers. But whether I press E, or scroll down from the top of
the page using the down arrow key, I cannot locate any search edit field.
There are plenty of links for products that Amazon is trying to push, along
with links to products I have recently viewed, but no way to search for a
particular product of interest. I suspect that Firefox recognizes JAWS and
automatically suppresses the normal home page to force screen reader users
to access the optimized home page on which there is a search edit field.
But as I stated earlier, the optimized version of Amazon.com for screen
readers leaves a lot to be desired.

 Gerald,

I have occasionally had the same issue with Amazon and Jaws, where the
page fails to display and hangs Jaws. I have seen it with my IE11 version
 as well.

I, unfortunately, can't help you with Firefox. I don't recall not seeing
the search box with Firefox. I am using Firefox 30 with Jaws 15 on a
 Windows 7 machine now.

Just I guess confirming that your experience with Amazon is not an
isolated one. The only problem is that I can never get it to repeat
 reliably.

Recently, I have begun to experience problems accessing Amazon.com using
IE 8 with JAWS 9 (or JAWS 13 in demo mode, for that matter) and XP. If I
type a search phrase into the search edit field on the Amazon.com home
page, the search results page comes up just fine. But sometimes, when I
click on one of the search results to learn more about a particular
product, JAWS suddenly goes silent, and the page does not load
completely. I then have to launch NVDA to close the stuck page with
Windows Task Manager, which usually, but not always restores JAWS to
speech. Once JAWS starts speaking again , I can unload NVDA. If I try
to access Amazon.com using Firefox 29, I cannot locate any search edit
field on the home page like I can with IE. Indeed, with Firefox, there
appears to be no search edit field at all on the Amazon.com home page,
and the only way to access a search field is to click on the link for
accessing the version of Amazon.com optimized for screen readers. But I
don't like this optimized version of Amazon.com, because the results page
leaves out a lot of information I am interested in, like overall review
ratings for each product. Is there any way to locate the search edit
field on the Amazon.com home page using Firefox, or otherwise access the
same normal home page with Firefox that comes up when I access it with
 IE? Thanks for any feedback.

I am looking for an Internet converter. My dream would be to type a
measurement in it and have it convert it to the opposite, from metric
to Celsius or backwards. For instance, I would type in 18 C and be
able to get a Fahrenheit equivalent or 8 feet and get a metric
equivalent. Of course, I would love to have all puzzles resolved
with one converter, but I am also a realist and if it would take
one each for different measurements, I can deal with this also. My
goal is to place a link or web address for these on my Desktop so
that I can get to this information as quickly as possible.

Now, nothing is perfect and I am sure such a comprehensive tool
does not exist, but without dreams, they can never come true.

Any converters you successfully use with JAWS are definitely of
interest to me. In advance, I thank you for any and all help and
  guidance about this matter.

It must be something to do with the combination of JAWS and whatever browser

Hi Lenny.

Try using http://www.adobe.com/flash
Use the letter g to navigate to the graphic's that attend to the Adobe Flash

Be aware of the install of additional toolbar's and software.

The install progress has changed, so it can be a bit frustrating to complete

Thanks JimI use the internet a lot...I'm concerned if I roll back to IE
10, perhaps, I will have future problems with using the internet, or
perhaps, not. Good idea. Thanks for sharing.

Hi

There is a way to do this.

1. Start playing the specific youtube video.
2. Use Jaws key plus z to turn off the virtual cursor.
3. Tab until you reach the unmute button. It is important to know that you
have to tab quite a few times until you get there.
5. When you get to the unmute button, use the up arrow to turn the volume
up again. You will hear all kinds of stuff spoken but the sound of the
video should increase in volume.

The important thing is to turn off the virtual cursor before following the
other steps and turn it on again afterwards.

This worked for me.

Hi Tom,
As Trish mentioned, there may be a switch on the laptop, but some use a
hotkey to enable/disable the wireless connection.
Typically, the wireless card is on and an icon will appear in the system
tray.
The icon may read as follows:
not connected wireless connections are available
If this is the case, your wireless card is on.
If the icon reads like this:
not connected you are currently not connected to any networks
then your wireless card is off.
If your particular laptop uses a key combination, it will be something like
this:
f/n + F5
You may need to consult your user's guide, or get sighted assistance to
locate the key.
You will need to know the name of your wireless network so that it can be
chosen from a list of available networks
Your network should be secured, so you will also need to know the pass
phrase and the security type, so that you can enter it manually.
Jaws should read all of these dialogues with no problem.
If we knew more specific information, I'm sure someone could help further.
HTH,
Rick Justice

That program is a specialty, but more over a friend of mine who goes by
start button is the expert in that area. Never the less I do appreciate
 the
quick reply. He normally does around a 8 or 10 part class on gold wave at
least once a year it seems. Like I said though if it is in my purview and
ability I will consider a tutorial on what might come across the list
 here.

I'm curious as to what sort of items might be of interest to some of you
out there in the area of audio tutorials, programs, ETC. I'm considering
doing one on repairing a damaged DBX file in Outlook Express as this is
fresh in my mind, and It's been quite a while that I have done such a
 thing.

This list just got it's 400th subscriber. Now this can and probably will
bounce up and down a bit, but for right now we have got 400 members and
the archives actually bring the count to 401, but they don't count. I am
having trouble believing it but numbers don't lie.

[JAWS-Users] jfw and excell

2007-11-30 Thread Cathy
Hi:
I am trying to rename pages in the excell. I have created a check book and
need to rename sheets after I create them. How do you do it. I have tried and
tried, and for some reason can to find a way to do it with jfw. Here is what I
am doing, and please tell me if I am doing something wrong or forgetting a
step. After I create the page, I hit the right mouse key on the number pad.
It comes up with a menu, and some times when I arrow down I will find the
rename label, but some times there is a totally different menu. When I do find
the rename label, I will hit inter, and some times and I must say most of the
time it jumps 1 or 2 pages back up, of course, the page I want to rename is not
where I find myself, so I really need to figure out why I don't always get the
same menu when hitting the right mouse button, and if I do happen to get the
right menu, I still can't seem to stay in the right sheet. I am using jfw 5.1,
but have jfw 8 on the computer and if you think that version would work better
with excell, I will try that. I am having loads of problems with jfw 8 and the
e-mail, so decided to go back to the jfw that was working with my e-mail.
Anyway, to get back to excell and jfw, can some one please let me know what is
going on with the renaming problems? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] memo to the list

2007-06-06 Thread cathy harris
Taking a moment to stray from the list's guide lines about keeping things on
topic regarding JAWS,

I have to totally agree with this post.

David, Rick, and David's wife, Patty, take a tremendous amount of their
time, both work and personal time, to make this list successful.

And, it is all done without financial compensation.

Not many things in life, these days, are free.

So, as a member of this list, I want to say a heart-felt thank you to the
management team for all their harde work and dedication in making this a
meaningful and important list.

It is all too easy to complain and criticize...but, saying thank you is a
lost practice these days.

I know I speak for many of the members on this list in saying thank you to
David, Rick and Patty.

Now, back to the topic at hand.

Cathy Harris

If I forgot to say big big thanks to you Mr. Farren I'm doing it now!
I sure would be in a jam if this site and Rick's wasn't around to bail me
 out, grins.

Thanks so much for all your time and for your wife too pitching in and
lending her eyes to assist, your a great team!

 Patricia

OK here's the deal I made the transition just as smooth as I possibly
could for all concerned, in fact I have had several people thank me for
doing such a nice job of it. So if changing an email address is too much
work for anybody then that's just too bad in my opinion. I do this as a
hobby and hopefully some good in the process will come out of it. Nobody
is required to be here at all, so take that for what it's worth. I'm
normally quite an even mannered guy but this is going too far already.
 Now
having said this I bid all good night. Rick if anything goes on over
 night
handle it as you see fit, I'll back you up all the way.
