Re: [JAWS-Users] Laptop or desk top?
I have a desktop pc, a laptop and a netbook. I like them all and each is great for what occasions I use them for. So, if you ask 100 people you will probably get as many different answers, because it depends so much on where and how you mostly use your computer, if you plan to take it places and so far. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan Sent: Saturday, November 21, 2009 10:07 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Laptop or desk top? Make sure you are in the very first 'if' line, then make sure you go to the end of that line before you hit enter hit enter once. This will create a space between that line and the next one. Re: [JAWS-Users] successful win 7 install, works well with jaws 10
I had help putting in the license and stuff it asks, right at the beginning. Then I just let it run its course. Then I got the jaws cd and just popped it in and went from there. I don't know if one can do this totally unassisted, I just always get it done with the initial launch of the installs, when someone is available to help with the numbers and stuff. There is a thing called unattended installs or at least used to be for xp, have never tried this though. This is what companies also use, when they have a lot of computers to install the same systems on, so they do not have to watch them all while installing is in progress. As far as clean installing, main thing is to make sure you have all your files saved before wiping the drives clean. And then have all drivers handy you may need. With win 7 I did not even need my additional windows 7 drivers, I had already downloaded prior. chrissy -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gerald Levy Sent: Donnerstag, 22. How much slower depends to a great part on the machine you plan to run windows 7 on. If you have acomputer that can barely handle xp, of course win 7 is not going to be faster. Windows is a streamlined version of Vista and needs less memory CPU and hard disk! The only free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 is if you purchased a computer within the last few months. I have not heard of any other free upgrades, and doubt if they would do that. There was a pre-order upgrade for $50, but that offer is no longer available. These upgrade packages can be applied to either Vista or XP. Windows 7 Premium is the most logical upgrade for most people. There is now a family pack available for about $150 that allows upgrading 3 computers. I hear that there is also a discount student version for around $30. Would I just check the archive and hard disc ones, or leave them all unchecked? I definitely don't have folders checked because it looked pretty confusing when I did try, but wondered how you have your check boxes set up. I appreciate your help. Run it and open your winzip archive that you are trying to get the password to. Leave minimal password length set to 1, max any number you like but make sure it is higher than your passwords usually are. Check all boxes for symbols, except user defined. the process takes longer but this way you are all covered. Hit 'attack'and mark automatic which is the default, brute force can be selected as well, your call. Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook express.
That I don't know. With regualr folders they usually go back automatically to the original location. I just found this tutorial in a mail forum, you may want to give ita try. Have not checked to see if this will work as I'd hate to mess with my outlook setup but since the damage was done already it can't hurt to try: Explore to the Local Settings folder for your identity, then Application Data - Identites The location for the settings folder is: Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities. There will be several folders with #'s for names with subfolders Microsoft - Outlook Express. Once you find the one with your e-mails. MOVE, Delete or Rename the Folders.dbx file. The next time you open OE it will rebuild the folders list (and the missing links). You'll have to re-sort everything, but the missing folder should show up. As always, use at your own risk, hope this helps Regards chrissy -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] Im Auftrag von Kimarain Gesendet: Montag, 20. [JAWS-Users] Windows 7: Start Menu and recommended settings
Hi listers, yesterday I read an article about what all has been changed in windows 7 as opposed to vista, what has been omitted, added and so forth. One of the things it said was that windows 7 no longer has the option to change the start menu to classic start menu. Does this cause any problems with jaws? Also, does anyone who has had experience trying out windows 7 have some sort of list or manual I can check out about what the recommended settings and changes are that I should make to the OS, in order for it to run smoothly with jaws? Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and net books
In nhave a lenovo netbook to take on tripsand stuff. I like them a lot. The keyboard takes some getting used to since it is smaller than a regular notebook's. but I have stuck some dots on significant keys so I can navigate better. You can run any jaws on it, I am currently running jaws 9 on mine and it works perfect. You could also hook up a portable braille display. I do that to mine a lot and this also works no problem. Netbooks usually come with either a linux version or windows xp. I prefer xp becchaue I never used linux and am really not crazy about this os. But that is all a matter of personal choice, like much everything else. If you get a netbook that has a decent processor and 1 gig of ram which is what most come with then there should be no issues. I would manage to get into the messagefield and no further. Jaws will say forms mode on where I would then normally be able to fill out and write but somehow it does not work. Just will not type no matter what I do. Guess it has to do with the messageboard just not being accesibly programmed for jaws or any other screenreader for that matter? Re: [JAWS-Users] yahoo messenger jaws reading commands
Hi chris, awesome, will save this and try first thing in the morning, when my buddy is back on. Funny thing is this is simliar to windows live, which is what I tried first to apply to yahoo messenger. Somehow it would not work, for example to get into the message window to see her last message I used F2 instead. I guess I have to sit down and learn this thing some more. Right now my jaws has a life of its own anyways. He just started reading me, automatically, the time every minute now. Nice thing but not needed. So I downloaded yahoo messenger and also made sure I installed version 7.0 which is supposed to work with my jaws 7.10. so far so good. When I now hear the pling sound that someone wrote and focus on the window it does not auto speak the last message. I did figure out that I can press f2 to get the very last message read. But is there a way that I can also keep reading older previous messages in that window? I know that in windows live all I have to do is hit alt+ 1, 2, and so on to get to the older messages but is there a command like this for yahoo as well? Also is there a tutorial for all the key commads available that will work with yahoo? Again my jaws that I am using is 7.10, with windows xp. Yahoo version is 7.0. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows update
Hi yvonne, To find out what version of IE you are using: Open internet explorer, hit alt to get to the menu, arrow right until you hear 'help'. arrow down to 'about internet explorer'.. There you should hear what your currently installed version is. it requires some up harrowing if I remember right to get it to read all the info in that window. Windows, refers to the operating system installed on your computer. There are many different versions of Windows, such as XP and Vista. And to further complicate things the version of Windows currently in beta is called Windows 7. 2. Internet Explorer, commonly referred to as I E,is an internet browser, used for accessing the internet. There are several versions of I E, such as versions 6, 7 and 8. Version 8, is the latest version. 3. Outlook Express, commonly referred to as O E, is an e-mail client, used for sending and receiving e-mail messages. As Flor stated earlier, there is no version higher than 6, because Microsoft changed it and gave it another name. HTH, Richard Q. Re: [JAWS-Users] hotmail pop 3 access
i could be wrong but last I have read was that pop access does not work with the regular hotmail accounts, I think they went the route like yahoo, where this only works now with a premium account that costs a fee. regards chrissy Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Visit the Blind Computing home page at: http://www.blind-computing.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to jaws-users-list-le...@jaws-users.com For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: jaws-users-list-requ...@jaws-users.com Use the following address in order to contact the management team jaws-users-list-ow...@jaws-users.com If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to the following address: blind-computing-j...@jaws-users.com
