Answer: Voiceover on a Mac? Dave Sent from my iPhone On Feb 23, 2018, at 2:03 PM, Adrian Sprattwrote: I agree that it's necessary to have all three browsers installed, but this increasing complexity is a little nuts. People are suggesting that we should also have the two screenreaders, JAWS and NVDA, on board, which I do. But that means we may need to try six combinations before we can access certain websites. Then there's the question of which version of JAWS will work. To give an example, a certain website I use is accessible to IE11, but it moves painfully slowly after the log-in page. Chrome gets to this page right away, but later there's a critical page on this same website that Chrome can't even open. For a while, I was trying to access this website with Firefox, but Firefox couldn't locate the edit fields for the username and password fields, and so obviously I couldn't log in. Then, on a whim, I switched from JAWS 2018 and 18, which I already need to alternate between, to JAWS 17. Lo and behold, the edit fields appeared. After that, Firefox and JAWS 17 seem to move seamlessly through the entire website. This is a website that requires logging in to test, which is why I'm not posting the address. The amount of time and distraction involved for screenreader users in working on the Web lately is getting ludicrous. Maybe VFO's efforts to work with MS on Edge will bring us back to a single universal browser. Until then, the lives of screenreader users are complicated. My ambition is to work as fast on a computer as fast as a non-techy sighted user, but all this browser/screenreader/version number switching is an obstacle to fast, distraction-free browsing. I can't imagine what it's like for a new screenreader user. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Andy Baracco Sent: Friday, February 23, 2018 4:23 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] migrating to a different web browser I use Chrome and IE 11 but have suspended using Firefox until accessibility issues are cleared up. Instructions You need to select all of your data, including the column headings. Use your applications key to bring up the context menu. Select sort. >From the Sort menu, select custom. You are now in a dialog box which JAWS does not read well. Use the tab key to move around in it. The most important things you need to find are as follows: --The checkbox that indicates whether or not the top row is a headings row for the columns of data, or if it is actual data. If you have column headings, make sure it is checked. --Tab until you get to a combo box, or maybe it is a list box, for which column you want to use for sorting. JAWS can be very uncooperative with reading the contents. --There are 2 more combo/list boxes that allow you to set information about sorting on this column I.E. A-Z, Z-A, ascending, descending, etc. Depending on what you want your sort to look like, you may not need to deal with this. Again, JAWS is not always cooperative with reading this information. --There should be another set of 3 combo/list boxes that will allow you to select the second column you want to use for your sort, as well as its criteria. I can never remember which column will need to be in the first set of boxes, verses which one goes in the second set. You will have to play around with it. A possibility might be that your FN+g key is defined to do something and you are occasionally accidentally hitting the FN key instead of the Shift key which might be next to it. Or, you might be hitting the Control+G keys rather than the Shift+G key. This thought comes from one who sometimes has fingers who think they have a mind of their own. You said that this doesn't always happen. Try to note in which situations it does happen. Does this always happen in specific applications like Outlook, Word etc.? Could your "G" key have been redefined as a shortcut for something. Have you tried running with the default JAWS option? You could hit Insert-Spacebar followed by z. Jean, I recall there are more than one place is on their website where the word Bree appears. Perhaps one of the other places is the one you want, or if you run the pro version without purchasing it, will it run as a free version? I purchase the pro version recently, so I have not downloaded the free version for a few months. Good luck. Rick, I believe there is an option button in that envelope printing dialogue. In this position, the flap would be closed. The default envelope settings should work for a standard business size envelope. 2. While in Word, press the key combination, Alt + M, for the Mailings tab. 3. Now press the letter E, for the envelope wizard. 4. When the wizard dialogue opens you should be on the edit field for the delivery address, so just type the address as it should appear on the envelope, or you can copy an address from elsewhere and paste it here. 5. Once you have the delivery address field filled in, tab to the return address field and do the same as above. 6. Once you have these fields filled in, simply tab to the print button, and spacebar it. Note: After you have pressed the print button, you should get a dialogue asking if you want to keep the return address as the default, simply tab to the appropriate yes, or no, button and spacebar it. Also, if you have Access Keys turned on in Jaws, as you move thru the ribbons, the appropriate keys for quick access will be spoken. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Keeps Repeating "="
Yep, I have noticed the same thing with JAWS 15. It usually happens when I am either reading some packed, or typing. Certain characters like a lowercase I lowercase L and hyphens or underscores will repeat ad nauseeum him until I move on to another character. Irritating, and I have no idea what could be causing it, except possibly the character are so thin, that John is not treating them as a character but more like a cursor.
