[JAWS-Users] JAWS reading sender and subject incorrectly in Windows live mail
Hello list For quite a long time now I find that if I delete an email with the del key when arrowing through the email list, JAWS reads the subject correctly but the sender’s name belongs to another email. In the past JFW read it correctly but I can not remember since which version this problem occurs. Has anyone experience this behaviour. I have the latest JFW 2018 installed. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws on a Tablet
I use a lenovo thinkpad2 tablet with my current jaws 2018. Maybe others will differ but I do not find windows10 on a tablet with jaws so pleasing than I was hoping when I purchased the Lenovo. In many instances I still need to use a USB keyboard, especially when the tablet hangs. My personal opinion is that I would not go for this option. If I just compare how independantly and without hassels I can operate my iPad mini with voiceOver then I would not have invested in a tablet with jaws. Re: [JAWS-Users] Screen Resolution Settings
Hello I do not contest your solution but I just want to make sure that your problem was similar to mine. My problem is specific when I change to the jaws cursor to examine the screen then I hear blank, blank etc. instead of getting what appears on the screen. It is therefore strange that a punctuation setting will rectify this problem. Was your problem also related to using the jaws cursor to examine the screen. I may just add that when this happens and I use the jaws key plus the letter B then jaws does read the text on the screen but when I activate the jaws cursor I can not read anything. I shall try the touch cursor when I encounter the problem again because it sounds that in windows10 that may solve the problem. Here below is how I did it. This came from Mike B. So if you can't figure it out blame him. LOL Mr. Ed How to make Jaws stop saying blank: Try the following: If you want nothing said instead of blank in all applications try the following: 1. Open the Settings Center insert + 6, then press, control, shift, + D, to open Settings Center default all applications. 2. Arrow down to, punctuation closed..., right arrow to open, down arrow to, customize punctuation, & press the spacebar to open. Make sure you press the spacebar to open & not enter. Pressing enter will close the Settings Center. 3. Tab to the Advanced button & press spacebar to open. The first item in the list will be, blank, so tab 1 time to, edit description button, & press the spacebar to open. The word, blank, will be in this edit field. Delete the word, blank, put a space with the spacebar, & press enter. 4. Tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your changes & close the Settings Center. If you don't want this in all applications, open the desired applications individually & use the above steps in each application. Simple explanation from the internet: It is usually quoted as width × height, with the units in pixels: for example, "1024 × 768" means the width is 1024 pixels and the height is 768 pixels. This example would normally be spoken as "ten twenty-four by seven sixty-eight" or "ten twenty-four by seven six eight". The most important thing is not the monitor size, but its ability to display the higher resolution images. The higher you set the resolution, the smaller the images on the screen will be, and there comes a point at which the text on the screen becomes so small it's not readable. On a larger monitor it is possible to push the resolution very high indeed, but if that monitor's pixel density is not up to par, you won't get the maximum possible resolution before the image becomes unreadable. In many cases the monitor will not display anything at all, if you tell Windows to use a resolution the monitor cannot handle. In other words, don't expect miracles out of a cheap monitor. When it comes to high-definition displays, you definitely get what you pay for. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool. It would be potentially very helpful to contact the Support department and offer the Dump File with an explanation of what you were doing when it the loss of speech occurred and how often you are seeing this. These issues are difficult to track down as they happen randomly and most certainly have something to do with JAWS interacting with UIA from Windows. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 Beta
Hello Rick Well, before the upgrade of the patch failed, everything was ok. I decided to uninstall the jfw16.exe file and to reinstall it again and the problem is solved, so it has to do that the upgrade patch failed to install. Re: [JAWS-Users] total recorder podcast`
Hello Colin Thank you very much. This is very helpful. Regards Fanus - Original Message - From: "Colin Fell" To: Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 4:46 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] total recorder podcast` Hi Fanus and List: To answer your query: I purchased TR and Spin it Again well over 3 years ago, so I don't know the current cost of these programs, but I am sure you will find that out on their respective Web sites. I don't remember Spin it Again being very expensive. I initially downloaded and installed it as a free and fully featured trial (complete with annoying repeated background clicks and other noises until the purchase (hence registration) was made!) when all those noises were magically removed (lol)!!! I found that Jaws was able to easily access almost all parts of this program, except I found that the Preset Noise/Click suppression etc settings areas were a little confusing for Jaws. However, I now use it as my sole recording program, as it has a wonderful "Recording Wizard" that will talk you through setting up recording levels etc (and all other menus). I use Spin it Again to not only do all of my initial audio recordings, but it will also offer to chop the resultant large file into separate tracks. However, I don't do that until after editing with Total Recorder. As I mentioned previously, I found the Spin it Again Noise/Click etc settings area confusing for Jaws, so consequently I only do straight audio recording with no Noise filters used at all. However, this is where Total Recorder Professional comes in: It has an excellent Audio Restoration and Click and Noise Suppression " Add On", available as an optional extra from theTR site. This is absolutely well worth it, as it is easily accessible with Jaws. The Add ons will write themselves into the main menu areas, very handy. I therefore do all of my Audio Restoration, Noise and Click Suppression easily by using Total Recorder Professional. In Summary: 1. Record with Spin it Again to produce an unedited and unfiltered wave file. 2. Using Total Recorder Professional, use this to do all general editing and Audio Restoration, Click/Noise/Hiss etc editing as one file to minimise time, then process this file back through the File Access area in Spin it Again to chop and convert this larger file into separate audio tracks.(TR will also do this, but I find Spin it Again excellent to do this). 3. If required, burn to a CD. (I prefer "Express Burn" to do this). 4. All my experiences and preferences of these three programs are purely based on their respective best accessibility for Jaws, obviously all excellent with Jaws. I hope this is helpful. I am also a musician (Technics Organ and Keyboard) so these 3 programs are brilliant for my hobby. When I wanted to upgrade from JFW13 to JFW14 I was told that the upgrade would cost $150 but should I take one SMA the price would be $260. There was thus an incentive to rather take an SMA which would then allow to have JFW15 as well. This was my experience for many years. I decided to take the upgrade to JFW14 but not the SMA. In November 2013 when I asked for a quote to upgrade from JFW14 to JFW15 I was told that the upgrade policy changed and now I have to pay $250 for upgrading from JFW14 to JFW15 and should I take one SMA it would be $280 for JFW15 plus the SMA which would enable me to get JFW16 as well. My point is therefore that it is not an incentive anymore to take a SMA but one is sort of forced to do so because from a financial point it is not worth while to just buy JFW15. The problem is that in the past fairly poor people could afford to pay $150 for one upgrade but not $260 once off. Now it becomes almost impossible to upgrade due to the high price of one upgrade. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws upgrade plan structure
Hello list Ok, let me explain as briefly as possible and I think an example would best give the facts and please, my problem is not the amounts but the policy itself and also remember the amounts may not be quite correct in terms of the dollar price which I quote because I converted the amounts from our currency back to dollars. I trust that you get my point and that is why I asked for an email address to discuss this with FS. Regards Fanus - Original Message - From: "Mohammad Mehdi Farahmand" To: Sent: Friday, October 04, 2013 8:22 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] download manager that works well with jaws Hi Rich! Internet Download Manager (IDM) is an easy to use tool to increase download speeds by up to 500 percent, resume and schedule downloads. According to the opinions of IDM users Internet Download Manager is a perfect accelerator program to download your favorite software, games, cd, dvd and mp3 music, movies, shareware and freeware programs much faster! Internet Download Manager has a built-in download logic accelerator that features intelligent dynamic file segmentation and safe multipart downloading technology to accelerate your downloads. Unlike other download accelerators and managers that segment files before downloading starts, Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files dynamically during download process. Internet Download Manager also reuses available connections without additional connect and login stages to achieve better acceleration performance. Comprehensive error recovery and resume capability will also restart broken or interrupted downloads due to lost connections, network problems, computer shutdowns, or unexpected power outages. Simple graphic user interface makes IDM user friendly and easy to use. Internet Download Manager has wide customization capabilities, downloadable skins, visual XP styles, multilingual interface, and supports proxy servers, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols, firewalls, file redirects, cookies, directories with authorization, ZIP preview, categories, MP3 audio and MPEG video content processing and a large number of server platforms. IDM integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, MSN Explorer, Opera, and Mozilla browsers to automatically handle your downloads. You can also drag and drop files or use Internet Download Manager from command line. Internet Download Manager can dial your modem at the set time, download the files you want, then hang up or even shut down your computer when it's done. The site grabber feature of Internet Download Manager not only lets you download required files that are specified with filters, for example all pictures from a web site, or all audio files from a web site, but it also lets you download subsets of web sites, or complete web sites for mirroring or offline browsing. It's possible to schedule multiple grabber projects to run them once at a specified time, stop them at a specified time, or run periodically to synchronize changes. Actually, A Jaws-script has written for IDM but I think It's not necessary. For more information and download IDM You can visit www.internetdownloadmanager.com. Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest Abbyy FineReader and jaws
Hello Doris Thank you very much. The info is very useful. Regards Fanus - Original Message - From: "Doris and Chris" To: Sent: Wednesday, November 23, 2011 11:09 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest Abbyy FineReader and jaws I have been using Finereader since its version 3.0 at about the time I lost my sight. The interface has changed several times over the years. FR has always been accessible and usable by the blind, much more so than, say, Omnipgage. Over here in Europe, it is _the_ocr program used by the blind and, when the client is eligible, often included in a reading solution package financed by the health insurance or other organization. I have only had a go at a demo of FR 11 as we usually get FR at a much reduced price when the next version is released. however, FR 11 is certainly usable and its recognition is, as always, very very good. FR's interface underwent a major change between its version 8 and 9. It is still accessible and still usable but just quite different. Whether you will be comfortable with it or not, depends largely on how you use FR and what you do or do not consider accessible and what your needs are. FR's reconition has always been amazingly accurate and it has recongized just about anything I've slapped on my scanner including poor quality print paperbooks yellow with age, typewriter pages or even mimeographed publications of a few decades ago. FR never failed me and never took even a fraction of the time I spent with some ocr packages specifically for the blind that I worked with. When the fine engine of a particular FR version was used with OB or K1K, I always found without fail that recognition in FR itself with the same version of its fine engine was better and much more painless. The setup I have yere is that I scan my books and everyday correspondence, forms, or documents my husband and I need electronic copies of wiht FR 7, which I still prefer for its interface and ease of use (due to my being very very familiar with it and my preference for working in FR's internal editor.) If I need to recognize a pdf document, maybe even a bilingual one, or a poor quality document, i use FR 10 on it because its reconition accuracy has improved dramatically since its version 7 or 8. Even on some of the bilingual texts that I ran thru fr 10, the accuracy was amazing even though I had just hset it to automatic language reconition. If you are a longtime user of Finerader, you know that you can download a free demo copy of it from Abbyy's homepage. I would defiinitley advise you to do this. Also, you can keep your trusted old FR 8 on the same system as they install to different folders. You just need to keep the batches each saves separately as FR's batches are not backward compatible. Finally, depending on what country you live in, you might be able to get the previous version of FR at a much much reduced price. I do not quite remember the price of the latest version of FR at the time. I think it may be around 200 Euros, which is roughly about US$300. The previous version may be availablefor as little as 1/4 of the price of the current version or even a little less. Unless you specifically need a feature that comes with the latest version, you are probalby going to be just fine with the previous one, especially in light of the fact that the latest version of k1k or ob usually use the fine engine of the previous version of the current retail version of fr itself. I hope this was a little helpful and that you will find the version of FR that works best for you and is the right size for your wallet. And if FR 8 does all you need it to do - and it might well do that - just remember "if it ain't broke ..." *g* hth Doris At 10:30 AM 11/23/2011 +0200, you wrote: >Hello List >Does anyone know if the latest version of FineReader is as >accessible with jaws13 and windows 7 as FineReader 8? >Regards >Fanus > > > >For answers to frequently asked questions about this list >visit: >http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] jaws, win7 and memory stick
Hello listers I am new to windows 7 but now I encounter a strange problem. When I insert my memory stick windows7 picks it up but I have only access to the folders on the stick and not to any files which is on the stick but not in a folder. In other words, win7 only sees the 16 folders but not the other files. Is there a setting which I must change to rectify this or is this a jaws12 problem? Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 volume control
Hello Rick Thanks for the instructions. Just one observation: jaws is supposed to be installed without sighted assistance but the last few times I needed sighted assistance because at the beginning of the install the install program says that it wants to make changes to my system. this does not talk, so there is no way to get to the stage where jaws is speaking without sighted assistance. I find this a bit unfortunate of software for the blind. Hi Riana Yes, I did try the headset but no luck. What worries me is that my wife says that there is A picture on the system tray which indicates that no speaker or headphone is plugged in, although my speakers are plugged in. Re: [JAWS-Users] can one make cd with jaws auto run
Hi Rick Ok, sorry, windows 7. I installed win 7 and now want to install JFW 12. I do not have the JFW12 CD because I downloaded the file from the site. Instead of having to get sighted help to help me in win 7 to get to the d-drive and execute the file, I was wondering if it is possible to put it on a CD and make it auto run so that it can start the jaws install automatically.
