  Hi Gary,

What operating system are you running, & what version of Jaws? If you're
running Windows 10 you need a newer OE6 version that requires the purchase
of a key code from the developer.

Hello all,

Is anybody using tapin radio successfully? I've used it for years but it seems
like when searching for a stations call sign I'm getting no results. I'm using
the same method I have before.

1. open the app
2. tab to the search button and hit space

3. type in the call sign, such as, KTHT, and press enter

4. shift tab to results. But I no longer get anyresults

Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the help. That's what I thought but I'm actually using the OE
scripts that Carlos wrote for the outlook express version that I believe he
modified. Maybe I misunderstood that or that those scripts need to be further
 modified for jaws 17?

  Hi Gary,

That is because Jaws 17 doesn't have Outlook Express scripts, they have been
removed in this version. Use Jaws 16 & earlier for best performance with
  OE.

characters it does not. This is true in any edit field I'm in, such as notepad,

Bob,

I use testmy.net. For a download test I enter on download test on the main
page. On the next page I choose the smar test and it'll test according to the
first little bit of speed it measures and run the rest accordingly. I do the
same for an upload test. Test results will be below that. To get to the results
quickly I do a search for the word star and you'll be a few lines above the
results.

I must point out gang this tip is not for the faint of heart, and I don't
recall if I posted it before or not.
***
Three Tricks to Make the Windows "Send To" Feature Even More Useful
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/three-tricks-make-windows-send-featu
re-even-more-useful.htm
Updated 19. September 2011 - 6:34 by v.laurie

It's been part of Windows for years and may be old hat to some but the "Send
To" function in the right-click context menu doesn't get the use that it
ought to. Also, it has some tricks that most people don't know. A previous
tip described a very useful app that adds features to "Send To" but this
time I will give you three little-known tricks that help make this function
more powerful without requiring the addition of any program.

How to move a file or folder instead of copying it

The default action of "Send To" is to copy a file or folder to the target
destination. To change this so that the file is moved instead of copied,
hold down the Shift key when you click the desired destination. This works
when standard folders are the target destination but the special folder (My)
Documents only seems to accept the copy action.

The copy or move function is especially useful when you have added folders
of your own to the default list of Send To destinations. How to add folders
was described in a previous tip and the third tip below gives another
method.

How to send a shortcut of a file or folder

Hold down the keyboard combination Ctrl+Shift and the "Send To" action
becomes the creation of a shortcut in the destination folder.

Put SendTo in the "Send To" menu

Adding the SendTo folder itself to the menu provides a quick way to add a
shortcut from a desired program or folder to the "Send To" menu. With the
SendTo folder itself as a destination you can do the tongue-twisting
operation of sending to "Send To". Here is the procedure to set this up in
Windows Vista/7:
 1. Open the Start menu and enter "shell:sendto" in the Start search bar
(without quotes and with a colon but no spaces).
 2. The SendTo folder will open. Note that the folder name is written as one
word.
 3. Go up one level to the parent Windows folder of SendTo with the keyboard
shortcut Alt+Up Arrow. Alternatively, click "Windows" in the address bar
breadcrumb list.
 4. Find the folder SendTo in the new window and right-click drag it to the
desktop.
 5. Choose "Create shortcuts here" from the context menu to place a shortcut
on the desktop.
 6. Drag the new shortcut back to the SendTo folder icon in the open window
and move it there.
 7. Close the window.

The procedure for Windows XP is somewhat different:
1.SendTo is a Hidden folder in Windows XP. If necessary, change the
settings to make Hidden folders visible as given at this link.
 2. Open the Start menu and enter "%userprofile%" in the Run line (without
quotes but with the percent signs). Alternatively, enter "sendto" in the
Run line and go up one level to the parent folder.

Then follow steps 4-7 given for Windows Vista/7.

Now you will have a quick way to place folders and programs of your choice
in the list of target destinations in the Send To function.

[JAWS-Users] jaws 13 beta2, default setting center

2011-09-26 Thread Gary Jackson

Hi all,

I make changes in the default setting center in keyboard labels to mute certain
keys, such as escape, tab, home, end, insert and so forth. The setting for all
changes aren't saving. After I OK the changes and go back to an application
such as email most of the keys I muted are still speaking. If I go back to the
default setting center sure enough the state of the key has reverted back back
to it's original state. Anybody else having this problem?

Gary

Re: [JAWS-Users] Application Key

2011-09-26 Thread Gary Jackson
Hi Rose,

My wireless keyboard doesn't have the application key either. I use a sweet
little key mapping application called sharp keys to map another key I don't use
to the application key. It's very easy to use and free.

No problems here in my keyboards that have the applications key.
Unfortunately my laptop and cordless keyboards do not have that particular
key and I often have to search to remember how I did this before I had a
keyboard with an app key.

[JAWS-Users] word list with jaws 12

2011-09-17 Thread Gary Jackson

Hi all,

On some, not all, web pages jaws goes silent after using insert control W to
get word list. In fact, the freedom scientific site is one place it happens. If
you can get speech back with another screen reader there appears to be some
error message. Itt has to be related to the word list function and is not
happening in earlier versions, but also happens with the jaws 13 beta. Anybody
else getting this?

I've found this script to be broken ever since jaws 11 was released and
reported it. That is, that it worked in jaws 10 but not jaws11.

Do I need to invoke the reply directly to sender jaws v9 script for the most
recent upgrade for jaws v11. The jaws key shift plus r doesn't work. To get the
latest jaws to install properly I had to uninstall v11 and then install the
most recent update from freedom. I didn't remove share components so I didn't
lose any prior settings.

Hi Listers,
In jaws 11 (all builds) the Replying Directly to Sender in oE (shift+jaws
key+R) doesn't function consistently, maybe only one out of ten times. I am
using OE and XP Pro. Version 10 appeared to be alright. I would be curious if
anyone else is also having this problem.

happen on everyone's computers. I hope FS can nail this one down.

Re: [JAWS-Users] quick mix

2007-07-10 Thread Gary Jackson
Hi Terrill and Ricque,

Yes, Ricque had it right. quick mix allows you to save the volume controls
including all sliders and what items are checked or not checked. They are
saved as afile which you can make a shortcut to and of course a hot key to
quickly switch back and forth between many configurations, only limited by
your imagination. I use it frequently with xp to demonstrate something on
my machine to somebody I'm talking to on messenger or skype as well as chat
rooms. I hope that help explain the purpose, but if it doesn't of course you
know how to get ahold of me.

thanks, Gary

Hi Gary:
You can try,
mute.exe
http://ed.mullen.home.comcast.net/utility.html
Volume Tray:
The program sits in your system tray and allows you to raise and lower
volume with hotkeys.

http://www.blind-computing.com/audio/programs/vlt_setup20.exe

If these don't help I can write a script for JAWS to do the same thing, let
me know if you want me to do that for you.

2007-07-09 Thread Gary Jackson
Hello,

I've been using quick mix for quite a while to save volume controls for
multiple purposes. I now see that it's developer isn'tsupporting windows
vista. Does anybody know of another program that does essentualy what quick
mix does that either does or may support vista?

Gary
