Re: [JAWS-Users] Replacement for AVG
Some weeks ago, someone wrote in recommending an anti virus program that, I think, is called avir. I kept the message, but unfortunately, in the interim, it has been lost. Re: [JAWS-Users] Query" Free rice
Thanks Flor! I will try your suggestions. It will not be long before I say good bye to the dear old dinosaur: 98 and make the leap to XP Home. My donated grain count on free rice is 9. Time permitting, I try to do 1000 grains a day. Until a while back, the best vocab level you could achieve, no matter how many words you got right was 50, but that level has been raised now, but so has the range of words and their difficulty and obscurity. My best level, to date, is 54, but one mistake and you slip back a level, and, it takes more than one correct word to regain it. I enjoy pitting my wits against the site. I spoke of jaws making a pretty good fist of pronunciation, with not many exceptions, but just wait until the site gives you the french word for an armchair! I should switch language to french and see what it makes of the pronunciation of fauteuil then! Re: [JAWS-Users] Finding Sounds For Your Computer
Several years ago, I downloaded a 15 day free trial version of find sounds, and what do you know, they forgot about me and I continued to download sounds, free of charge, from the site for a year or more. I, eventually, had over 600 sounds, and then my hard drive died and, of course, took all my sounds and everything else with it to the grave! When I was, once again, in the land of the living, and went to find sounds, the 15 day free trial had been cancelled. I couldn't really complain! I had had a great time while it lasted. I now have downloaded the latest 15 day free trial v2.2, but I cannot get it to work. It is different to the one I knew in that there is a box that says: "effects: 1 of 3", "instruments: 2 of 3" and "other: 3 of 3". I open any one of the three with the right arrow key, but that is where I get stuck. Pressing the enter key or tad down just results in a ding. operating system: 98SE and JFW4.51. Re: [JAWS-Users] Query How to fix strange reading
I wrote in some time ago telling of how Jaws read news items on the world science site in a very odd manner. Words of one or two syllables were ok, but longer than that, Jaws attempted to break them up into individual syllables. Flor Lynch asked for the url, and I have not, until now, been able to get back to the computer with that information. It is: www.world-science.net. [JAWS-Users] Query How to fix strange reading
For the past few months, Jaws reading of news items on the World Science site has been most peculiar. It reads 50% of the words just fine, but the rest it breaks up into syllables. I am getting quite good at interpretting what it is reading, but I would much rather have the article read in plain english, not a strange version of it. There was a question the other day on this list re hidden hyphens. I didn't know if these were being inserted as, if I copy the article to MsWord, and look at the word in detail, I am not told that there is a hidden hyphen. Nevertheless, I went through search and replace as if they were there, but the program said that the search item could not be found. Is there anyone else on the list who gets the world science newsletter and has the same problem, and if so, how did you fix it? My operating details are: IE6: 98Se: JFW4.51.
