Re: [JAWS-Users] A Comment About Control-y In Outlook

Hi,
I use control Y to transfer back and forth between my 2 email accounts.

Control Y and control+ shift + tab works well in windows 10 to move around

Control-y brings up a complete folder list. I never miss calendar and
contacts when using the shift-tab method because I use control-2 for
Calendar and control-3 for Contacts. Control-6 brings up the complete
folder list with Suggested Contacts if you don't remember control-y. Smile.

The suggested contacts is useful on occasion. I go in there every so often
and clean out the scads of contacts Outlook has automatically added that I
know I will never use.

If you're in Calendar or Contacts, control-1 will bring you back to your
in-box.

Hi,
If, you press insert V and arrow down to ribbons, you can check and uncheck.

Tiles are only in your start menu on items you can open to view or adjust and
close.
Windows 10 runs smoother , when all the tiles are close.
When, you're blind you have to open the tile to see inside the tile, but people

Hi, Jorge.

These are great instructions, but I think you're missing a step. Do we know if
Patti has installed this latest release? If not, after downloading the file,
you need to update JAWS by installing this latest release. Only then do you run

Patti

Hi

Instead of Modifying the default.jss and default.jsb files for a new script,
you could set up a keystroke to make the PrintScreen key be your applications
key. There is already a script in JAWS 17, 18, 2018 and possibly earlier to
invoke the applications key.

If you do not currently have a default.jkm file in your JAWS user folder,
create a new file with the full name of default.jkm in your JAWS user folder
and add the following lines:

[Common Keys]
PrintScreen=SendApplicationKey

If you already have a default.jkm file in your JAWS user folder just add the
line

PrintScreen=SendApplicationKey

In the [Common Keys]Section of the file.

It is dangerous to have a copy of the default.jsb file in your JAWS user
folder. Any JAWS update can install a new version of default.jsb that can make
your copy of that file useless. And has been pointed out, you can only use
that copy of default.jsb with the version and update that were used to save it.
But using a keystroke instead will be compatible with any version of JAWS.
Also the JKM file can be moved to any version of JAWS.

Hey group,

Yesterday my outlook 2010 was acting a little weird so I closed it down and
restarted my PC. Now it seems as though Outlook has reset the calendar to a
kind of factory default. All my appointments are missing, and the calendar
is presented in a grid view with holidays starting in 2009. But, I don't
think my appointments are completely gone because my reminder window is
still being populated with appointment times that have come and gone. Prior
to this calendar malfunction, there was a window that gave me the choice of
either snooze, restart and something else. I thought it was for the creator
update, but it wasn't. Perhaps I have installed an update that messed up my
calendar? I thought about a system restore, but wasn't sure it would help.
Maybe I should go ahead and do it anyway?
I'm running Jaws 18 and I would sure appreciate some helpful information on
this one.

Thanks,

Dave,

On the graphics question, you can tell JAWS how to handle graphics. Open the
JAWS settings center with JAWS key+6 (on the number row above the letters).
If you want to make your choice in a particular application, such as your
email program have that program in focus when you open the settings center.
I suggest you do it this way because you may want graphics handled
differently in different applications. Then type the word graphics in the
edit field that appears when you open the settings center. Down-arrow
through the options. If you're unfamiliar with how to work with the settings
center, please re-post.

On the other items that JAWS reads when you open a message, I believe that
question is handled in the JAWS quick settings menu, which you get to with
JAWS key+v. In this case, arrow down until you hear a relevant item.

I hope this gives you the pointers to solutions. Your unfamiliarity with
JAWS may mean you post again, which is fine. People will take you through
each part of the problem. I can assure you there are solutions to each one
you identify.

When I open a webpage and move around the links I hear the word graphic

[JAWS-Users] List View NOT DETAIL View

2017-07-04 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi, Using Win 10 Creator, I cannot get list view to work only the detail
view, in detail view you have to tab to move around in your documents and
other situations, I always have used my up/down arrows, which makes most
tasks comfortable to perform.

First letter quick navigation works well, I preform the command alt V and
tab down the list and the only view is detail view.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail

Hello Tom,

I don't use Outlook 2016 but apparently the problem of hyperlinks ceasing to
work is a known problem to Microsoft. There is a Microsoft fix that can be
used. Further down in this message is a link to the Microsoft site, which you
can select and copy into the address bar of Internet Explorer. After the link
to the fix I am pasting information I found on the web with suggestions for
getting the links working again.

It seems that if you recently changed your default browser to Chrome or Firefox
this problem can arise. One thing you might do first is reset your Internet
Explorer. You can do that by going into Internet Explorer, pressing Alt with
T, using up arrow to find the Internet options and pressing enter to open the
options. Use CTRL with tab until on the advanced page. Tab to the reset
button and use spacebar. Follow the prompts. After resetting Internet
Explorer close Outlook if it is opened and reopen it or just open it if it is
not running. Check to see if hyperlinks are working.

You might also consider doing a system restore to a point before the problem
started.

A couple other suggestions include uninstalling Chrome or Firefox if you
recently installed them and try reinstalling.

A couple of the methods shown in the article include working in the Windows
registry. If you are not comfortable doing so then you should likely avoid
those suggestions or at least treat them as last resorts.

Here is a link to the site with the Microsoft fix it tool. There is a download
button for the tool on the page. When the page loads press B until you find
the download button and use it to start the process.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/310049/hyperlinks-are-not-working-in-outlook

Here is the info from the page showing different possible resolutions.

"How to fix hyperlinks not working in Outlook

We will start with the easiest troubleshooting steps that take the least time
and effort, so it makes sense to follow the below methods in order and after
trying each solution check whether you can open links in Outlook again. These
solutions work for all versions of Microsoft Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 and
2003.

Use the Microsoft Fix it tool

Luckily for us, Microsoft guys are aware of the "hyperlinks in Outlook not
working" issue and they've already worked out a fix. So, the first thing you
should try is download and run Microsoft's Fix It tool for your version of
Windows. The fix for Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP is available
here.

And even if you are "I will make it myself!" kind of person, I'd strongly
advise that you let Microsoft fix it for you in this particular case. Firstly,
because it's a faster way, secondly, because it is much safer and thirdly, if
something goes wrong, you know with certainty who to blame : )

So, give it a shot and if the fix has worked for you, congratulate yourself and
you can close this page. If you are still unable to open links in Outlook, then
please keep reading and try the other methods.

Set Internet Explorer and Outlook as default programs

1.On Windows 7, you can set the default programs by going to the Control Panel
> Default Programs > click Set your default programs.

Go to Control Panel > Default Programs to set your default programs.

2.Choose Internet Explorer in the Programs list and click the Set this program
as default link.

Set Internet Explorer as default program.

3.Find Microsoft Outlook in the Programs list and set it as default too.

On Windows XP, you can do the same by going to Control Panel > Add and Remove
Programs > Default Programs > Set your default programs.

An alternative way to access the "Set your default programs" dialog is by
clicking Internet Explorer's Tools icon > Internet Options > Programs ta

Hi,
Vipre Has not been 100% accessible with jaws like Norton, so you have to know,
what antivirus you're buying, by reading many posts from members. I run MS

I am talking about Vipre 2017 version. As I continue to explore Vipre, JAWS
shows any number of what it calls text blocks. Most are labeled but not read.
Sorry, JAWS is simply notup to speed. The touch cursor shows the text blocks.
Further more, even when I turn on the touch cursor, I'm not sure how to get any
action with it from the PC.Even if I can act upon them, it would sure be nice
if more was read. I'm sorry about being sour grapes, but you may hear more of

Yes, JAWS's convenient OCR is probably the simplest way of handling this
problem. but I'm wondering why nothing was spoken. Typically, I get an Adobe
dialog asking how I want the PDF file made readable. I click on my choice
and wait. Sometimes the document is read, sometimes I'm told it's "blank."

Jeff, did you set up Adobe Reader for accessibility? If not, open
Adobe/Acrobat and press control-k. JAWS will verbalize "Accessibility" right
away. Go from there.

run in safe mode. . It's too bad that Freedom Scientific staff don't hav the
courage to monitor the list like GW staff used to do for Window-Eyes. Sorry
for the rant. Indeed, I like some of the features I am finding in JAWS that
are not available with Window-Eyes. I stress the need for JAWS to run in
safe mode as I have experienced the need of using safe mode for such
processes as removing some antivirus programs and doing registry scans.
Additionally, some folders and files can only be removed in safe mode. I
realize that these actions must be taken with care, and not everyone feels
comfortable with it. However, if you are careful, it can be helpful.

Not likely. Eric Damery has insisted for years that it is not possible for
JAWS to be modified to provide speech in safe mode. My understanding is
that Window Eyes provides speech in safe mode only because of a registry
hack. Of course, hacking the registry, especially for the technically
uninitiated could be very risky. Besides, Window Eyes is no longer being
supported, so unless you already have it installed on your computer, you may

not be able to download it any longer. There is another open source, free
screen reader that shall remain nameless that allegedly provides speech in
safe mode, but nobody has ever produced a podcast to demonstrate how this is

accomplished.

solicitations, no surveys and no sermons sign in front to cut down on people
coming to the door, but there are always those who would never consider that
such a sign applies to them.

In any event, I’d like to know people’s experiences with this device and

Using the latest JFW 18.

Excuse me gentlemen's,
I was under the impression that the knfb W10 app worked on pc's that had a

Hi,
KNFB can be use with a camera or scanner on a Windows pc running W10. So if
you have the KNFB app open on your pc and hold a Piece of paper about 12 to
15 inches away from the camera and push the field of view report it will
tell you if you have all four corner showing. Even if you don't it still
might scan ok. Then you have to push the take picture button then it will
come of reading for you. Of course you have to make sure the printed side of
the paper is towards the camera lens. You also have to have a camera. If you
do not have a camera you can use a flatbed scanner. Then you just put the
paper on the scanner and open up the KNFB app and tab until you hear scan
image or do a ctrl + T to start the scan. When it is done scanning it will
come up reading in a second or so.

Hello,

I have a serious problem that appears to be related to the latest build of
JAWS 18,, that was released earlier this month.

I was able to use this build for a while, but I can't remember what lead up
to this problem, but I will explain.

After restarting my computer completely during the week, I lost all speech.
When I pressed J for JAWS on the desktop and pressed enter on the shortcut,
I received a message stating that there was a problem with the shortcut. I
tried to repair JAWS but I received another message stating that I had to
verify that I had access to the file, JFW.exe. I could not do this. There
was no option of verifying such access. The only solution I could try was to
completely remove JAWS, then reinstall the version on the cd.

How can I sort this out?

Thanks.

keep this in mind when you listen to the recording. this is a very close-up

yes, as I heard from another ml, it uses Windows Home 32 bit and you
most likely would want to use a Bluetooth or USB keyboard. it also
provides 1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 port as well as a HDMI.

Curt,

HP has re-mapped the function keys.
Usually, just to the right of the lefthand control-key is a Func key. You
need to press that in conjunction woith one of the functionkeys f1-f12 to
get it to do the traditional function. Otherwise, you are in what HP calls
ActionKey mode.

Generally, you can return the HP to function like normal:

This "amazing" technology is called "Action Keys Mode", and the good news is
that it is very easily turned off to get your laptop back to working the
standard way of having to press the fn key.

Steps to fix:
- Shut Down your computer completely. Don't put in Sleep or Hibernate
- Press Power button to start
- Immediately press F10 key a few times
- This will start the BIOS
- Go to 3rd page (System Configuration). Press right arrow key to go to next
page
- Select the "Action Keys Mode". Press ENTER. Select DISABLE
- Save and Exit

I hope you could please help me on the following,

Around two updates ago of jaws 16, some functions in the windows calculator
have started saying ‘control not visible’. For example if I want to use the
multiply sing, shift plus 8, jaws says ‘control not visible’. This also happens
with the minus sign. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You will want to open the Run dialogue box by pressing the Windows logo key
+ the letter R. then type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes of
+ course,
and the system file checker will start scanning your Windows files for
missing and corrupted files. It should take less than an hour for the scan
to run, and at the end, the scanner will report the system's status to you.
It will say that:

1. There were no corruptions found,
2. That there were corruptions found and fixed, or 3. There were Corruptions
found, but they could not be repaired.

If the latter one appears, you would need to run a repair on your Windows,
using either a repair or the installation disk, and you will probably need
some sighted assistance, as you have to boot into safe mode to accomplish
this.

Hi All,

A week or 2 ago I asked what keystroke will highlight the address bar in
Firefox & if someone posted it, I missed it. The keystrokes below will
work, I tested them both running Firefox 32, Jaws 15, & Win7 Pro.

To highlight the address bar in Firefox the keystrokes are:

Control + L

Or,

Alt + D

After invoking either 1 of the keystrokes above the address bar will be
highlighted so, press, control + C, to copy the contents to the clipboard.

Take Care.

Open jaws up, and press the alt key.
Then, press O for option.
Select Basic and press enter.
Tab down through the menu and select what you want, especially jaws to start
at start up.

If, it continues, you have to many programs check to start up at start up on
your PC.

If, I install it, will it push out the prior Office or will it merge and

Or can I have 2 Offices installed temporary.

Jerald,
I am talking about the paid version.
I been running AVG pro since 2008 and never had a problem
Of coarse, some people don't want to pay for antivirus and that's their
business.
AVG is very Jaws friendly, what's so hard about navigating with your arrows
and tab keys and one enter to start the scan.

You can also do a restore through safe mode.

But, jaws is not talking at that time, so you will need a pair of eyeballs

Press the F8 key rapidly, while the pc is booting up.
If, successful, the safe mode screen should pop up, if not, shut the pc and
retry.

Hi,
I have done a couple of restores and the file name is usually BK something.

OK, where do I re install the file back into the pc or a similar pc?
I did ask the club months ago...

also, you can not install a BK file from a laptop into a desktop or
viseversa.
Because of the configurations.
After, you are done restoring move the BK file to a external HD because it
takes up to much space in your computer.

I just wanted to pass that info.

Hi Cher,

What I'm referring to is, for example, I have a windows update shortcut on
the desktop & when I click on it & I'm in the windows update window, using
my current screen resolution settings, I route the Jaws to the PC cursor,
press page-up to go to the top of the page, & arrow down 1 line at a time,
Jaws will report that windows is up to date & arrowing down a little more
Jaws reports that there are no updates available. Jaws doesn't report this
using other screen resolution settings, speaking for my system only.

Let me preface my next example by saying, I haven't been to system restore
in awhile, my Win7 system isn't availble to me at the moment &, I don't
recall if finding this checkbox is ,with or without the use of routing the
Jaws to PC cursor.
Another scenario: In system restore, using my current screen resolution
settings, I can find the, Choose a different restore point radio button not
checked, checkbox but, using other screen resolution settings I couldn't.
Again, speaking for my experiences with my system only.

Re: [JAWS-Users] address book and contacts

2014-03-29 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi,
When I add a new contact it saves to the contact list and not MS contact
list.
Try this:

Start a new email.
If, you shift tab you should hear contact or MS contact use your arrow to
select contact.
Then, to name only-checked.
And radio lines or something like that-unchec.
Try re adding the address and see if it saved, by using control + 3 or
control + shift + B.

I know for a fact outlook 2003 does not have a selective contact list or to
activate the address, you have to send a email to a recipient like in
outlook 07 and 10.

Or maybe your problem is here:

PressWindows +R, and type outlook / cleanviews and press enter.
Down arrow to the reading paine and press enter.
Press insert + V and press enter.
Down arrow to auto correct and check it.

That will correct your letter navigation, when selecting.

HTH,
Jorge

Hi, a while back I asked about adding contacts. Well, I did add one and when
I go to my contacts, it is listed, but when I go to the address book it is
not there. So when I go to send a new message, I type the first letter of
the name but it is not in the list. I am using Outlook 2003 with Jaws 13 and
Win 7. My question is: is the address book in Outlook a different thing from
the contact list, and would I then have to enter a new address in each one.
Doesn't seem like it should. Thanks. Judy & Tallie

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using the thesaurus in MS Word 2010

2014-03-28 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi,
I thought Word was using the Microsoft dictionary and not the thesaurus.
In your directions in 2007 you missed the navigation of the spell menu using
the tab key.
Forsome reason, the dictionary works the same way in Outlook and Word in 07 &
10.

Hi: I have just installed mS Word 2010.
How do you use the thesaurus to see a list of replacement words, and how do you
then choose that word to replace the word you selected in your document?
In Word 2007, you highlighted the word to look at, then you went to the
thesaurus in the menu’s and selected the word you wanted with the enter key,
and it automatically replaced the word in your document.
Any help would be appreciated...

The reason for that iCloud service is to share files, so there got to be a
way to run a Save option.
If, you read my post, I was saying that the MS iCloud (Drive 1) gives you 7
FREE gigs of space, when dropbox only gives you 2 and after you use them up
you have to buy more and it's expensive
I'm going to try with a newer laptop running the same softwear and maybe
I'll get it to work.

MS iCloud.

I am on the page with all the songs link.

I move to the song links by tabbing.

Then, I uncheck the song and press enter.

A open and save option pops up,

But,there is no save button.

I tried:

Alt N, alt S, control S, alt r, up/down arrow, tab & shift tab: nothing is
saving.

A MS short security scan runs and then, says download complete.

I never saved it or gave it a destination location.

This Website was weird and the music is still in the cloud.

This MS iCloud gives you 7 gigs of free space, after you create a account.

This is better than dropbox.

Anyone has any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jorge

about it, but here is what I do.

When replying to a message everything sounds just fine as I am typing in the
body of the message. When I use the arrow keys to re-read the message, JAWS
says nothing. I then Alt+Tab away from the message, and then Alt+Tab back
to the message. Now I can navigate inside the body of the message as usual,
but what I find is everything I typed minus the spaces and hard returns. I
then have to go back and insert them in, or just delete the entire thing and
start over. I've now learned to check things out after typing the greeting
of my message. I hope to later in the week call FS.

Annette

Hi,

Using wind 7, Outlook 2010 & Jaws 14:

I added a second email address to Outlook 2010 and after I enter my internet
password and Outlook opens, it's NOT giving me a choice of which account, I
want to open.

I already have a default account establish.

When, Outlook opens it looks like, if it open in the treeview list level 3
anouncing two account folders and whatever inbox folder I press enter to
open, it doesn't open.

It's like Outlook needs to be told what to do and how to do it.

I messed with it, but I'm not the smartest Shark in the bunch.

I appreciate any help in setting up a rule/selecting option on which account
to open?

Because my Outlook is now in limble.

Thanks,

Jorge

Hi Jenny,
I tried alt S, alt N, alt R, content menu on one option that had the word
save mix with a couple words. No luck what so ever on the option to save the
music.

My buddy sent me 81 music files using sky drive also called sky 1 from his
folder.
They give you 7 gigs of space, this is better than Dropbox and it's free.
I checked into dropbox after I ate up the free space plus whatever they give
when you get someone to join dropbox and to upgrade to more space was
ridiculous, it cost nearly $100, not worth it.
I'll write a email to FS to see what they reply and try try again.

Later,
Jorge

 Dooi,
I don't know about your HD.

I have a 1.5 tarabit Seagate, which will last a life time and still be
empty.

The second one my Vist at the VA ordered one from EVAS, one of the support
the Government uses. That one was just a plug in and use for a Dell, I forgot
the name and it's capasity.

Are you having a hard time trying to get to open it or operate it?
Just plug in the USB, turn on the external.
Go to my computer and arrow down and see, if the external HD is highlighted
.
Press enter to open it.
Wait, and see, if it's trying to download files to your PC, if not move on.
Now Copy & paste a useless file and see, if it pasted.
If, you were able to paste and copy files in and out, it's working fine.

My next thought was to scan the thin manual and save it as a word doc and
study your options.

there an advantage with the microsoft products for a win 32 bit machine. A few
years ago I had a problem and a support person from eset was on the phone with
me for a few hours cleaning the machine. Something got into my machine and
corrupted the registry. It did not show up as a virus with any scan. My local
weather page was being directed to a porn site.
Does microsoft have similar support?

Hello, David F and Eric D,
wow! Thank you both, for all this Excel Check Book information and
assistance. Yet, I may have a loaded question. Can either of you, provide
a Check Writing and printing program that works favorably and relatively
easy with Jaws and that can be printed up in a public and business accepted
manner, and where No format questions will be targeted back to a user, such
as myself!

The reason I ask, is I just went through a check payment conflict with a
very notable cable company, where their computer system misread my most
recent payment check, and for the last week my cable service has been turned
off, each day at 11:45 AM; and it has been quite a battle with them, and I
even had to get my bank involved to back my payment of $100; where the cable
company's computer said I only paid $10. This is why I am asking this
question; and I am seeking Technical and quality advice, so that this
situation my be avoided in the future. To let you both know, I write my
checks using a plastic check template, and on the line for writing the
dollar amount in words, I Print those words in Capital Letters, for easy
recognition, and I never have written any check that has cents on it, as
they are always written in an even dollar amounts. Yet, this careful
technique failed me, in this situation; and that is Why I am asking such a
question, to evade this from happening in the future.

Thank you both, for any and all assistance.

Respectfully

I was given an external hd to try and reformat for a windows machine. It was
previously used on a macbook computer. When I powered it up my computer
installed the drivers and I was informed that it is ready to use. It does not
show up in my computer so that I can reformat it. Any ideas on how I can format
the drive?

Lenny,
Any HD or thumb drive that was formatted by a Apple Pc, it will not work in a
Windows computer.

I believe you are going to have to reformat the device to operate on a Windows
, maybe through utilities.

If, anybody else wants to add info on how to fix...

Gregg,
Try, resaving the doc as another format, or copy & paste.

Or resend the doc as a email attachment and then save as..., and change the
format at this time to a Text doc/what ever and save it.
I don't know exactly what your dealing with.

The keystroke is NumPadSlash, or single-left-click.

Lenny, are you using the actual USB port? If you plug your phone into a hub
ti may not work correctly. Hope that helps somewhat.

And the Apple iPhone is listed there as a option when I arrow down.

told me to go under my computer and in the I phone first move the

Neither of my phones show up under my computer. What do I need to do for

You wouldn't possibly have steps on doing that with balloon messages for
windows eight would you ?
thanks in advance
Re: [JAWS-Users] Balloon Messages
Here is a tip on how to set the time for how long balloon messages will
stay
up so you can have time to access them.

In Windows 7 it's under "Ease of Access". Type Ease of Access in to the
search box in the start prompt. In the Ease of Access Center go to,
"Make it
easier to focus on tasks", and hit enter. Near the end of the options that
come up is a combo box with different time settings to adjust the time that
those balloons stay on screen.
