[JAWS-Users] Multiple Selection in A List Box Problems

2012-02-23 Thread Joy Cyr
Good day,
Below I've pasted the excellent instructions which up until now have always
worked. However, on one page in one box when I press the space bar nothing is
selected, and when I attempt to save my selections it shows up as nothing
having been chosen. I've now gone through the same steps several times, ...
refreshed the page, and deleted my browsing history, ... anything else I can
try? Or is there something I don't know about?

Thank you for any help.

Sincerely,
Joy

Good day,
My flash is enabled, and it sounds to me as though you are describing the
older, accessible consol which I never had a moments problem with and would
like to continue using. The new one is NOT! like that.

I am using Jaws 11, and my problems began Sunday night,, ... I use the BBC site
for one reason or another at least six days a week and have for over five
years, so please believe me this is recent.

If they work correctly the two links below should take you to the two different
listen again pages they are now presenting. The first is the old accessible
page, the second the new page where I have not been able to find the buttons
that are still there, somewhere.

You need to have flash enabled, as the page has a lot of that. the
buttons are then read by JAWS. there is the Play/pause button which does
what it says. The timeline button allows you to jump by percentage
increments, the percentage being of the programme's length. There is
also a volume adjust button, and an Adobe Flash popout button. You
didn't say which version of JAWS you're using.

 Good day,
Has anyone come across the new (and supposedly improved) iPlayer that
the BBC uses to play their radio shows online? The old one uploaded
and showed a simple consol that was easy for Jaws to navigate. This
new one is displaying a page filled with links, graphics and text. I
had someone sighted take a look and the vital buttons are still there,
and have the same labels: play/pause, volume and timeline, but Jaws
can't find/see them with either cursor. Could this possibly be a Jaws
setting I need to change? Or is there a work around that will let me
find them? Because not being able to hit pause during a three hour
 show is a real problem.

If anyone has any help or suggestions to offer I'd be very
 appreciative,
 Yours sincerely,

Flora,
I'm afraid they aren't giving you a choice, ... I don't know why the old one is
still loading for Today, although since it is the show I need it most for I am
very greatful. But where the new one is loading that's it. Suppose I'm going
to have to write to their customer service, but that's a massive project on its
own. And I just do not understand why they don't verify these things properly
before going live with them.

Or again, maybe I need to change a setting, ... can't imagine what but I'd be
delighted if it were that simple.

Agreed that doesn't sound impressive, but I'd settle for seeing the unlabelled
buttons if I could!

Interestingly this isn't the only web page I use where links/buttons are
presented but unseen by Jaws 11, ... this happens to be the all round most
inconvenient.

Please, if you can take a min and send them a note, they can be really
dismissive if they say you are the only one who contacted them so the more the

There are unlabbelled buttons in the flash content, which JAWS12 sees.
Mine called the Play button unlabelled 1 button, and if I press that to
pause it becomes unlabelled 2 button. JAWS11 may not be working well
enough with this flash content, but in any case it is or appears to be
rather unsatisfactory so far.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Website problem, New BBC iPlayer

2011-04-12 Thread Joy Cyr
All true, but once again we are discussing a large organization, well versed in
issues of accessibility who have proved that they can mount well designed sites
accessible to adaptive softwares. They are also an organization that does make
a major point of promoting their accessibility, they even have an entire forum
devoted to the people with adaptive software needs. So they know about and are
able to use the tools you refer to. So to take a perfectly well set-up
accessible site and launch a new and totally inaccessible one, given the source
is unexceptable. And honestly, beside the point. I want to know how I can use
their latest mistake until they get their act together and put something better
up. Based on previous experience it will take a few months before a more user
friendly site is launched and philosophizing on their inadequacies isn't
helping me in the meantime.

Well the problem lays with the programmer. The tools are there to
make all software and computers useable for those with disabilities.
However, those tools are consider extra and use plane functions for
buttons and stuff like that.
The programmer can still use custom code, but if the accessibility
functions are not turned on or used. Then its just pretty code for the eye.
When it comes to programming not much is standard and custom is the thing.
Also not all accessible code is standard. If it was then wineyes and
jaws would both be the same.
Apple is the only one that put standards that all software for its
platform. Must be useable by voice over. The problem there is they
don't turn on those features unless asked, but they are there to meet
the requirements.

Its working with the flash as its suppose to.
However, the new page given has flash not using accessibility. They
just left it out or someone else did the coding.

Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 Keyboards

2011-03-22 Thread Joy Cyr
Dear Mike,
I have been using both a regular and a wireless keyboard on the same machine
for close to a year. I started with Jaws nine, and now have Jaws eleven, and
Windows XP. From the first I have used them interchangeably and never had a
moments trouble with either.

I can only speak of my own experience, definitely am not qualified to give you
a professional answer, but personally really cannot see why her having two
keyboards would be effecting her use of Jaws. Of course to double-check things
she could try detaching one or other of the keyboards completely and see if
that makes a difference?

Best of luck to you both,

I have had this happen to me off and on with the past few versions of JAWS.
For me it is not a JAWS issue. I use a laptop and there is a touch pad for
visual users to use to move the mouse around. There is also a small button
just above that touch pad that turns this touch pad on and off. If I do
not have the mouse touch pad turned off and I accidentally touch the pad
while typing, browsing or anything else the cursor will jump focus and
screw me all up and put me in a place I don't want to be. I found that as
long as I keep the mouse touch pad turned off, I never have any problems
keeping focus where I want it and everything works fine. I hope this
helps.

anything else I press its just silent. I'm running an older version of Jaws.
I noticed one person at least who has already replied to you is running version

[JAWS-Users] I'm going to try asking again, ... WinAmp problem

2008-06-28 Thread Joy Cyr
Hoping someone can help me to solve this mystery. WinAmp is working well, and I
can go through its windows (equalizer, play list editor etc.) and pause
and start the file using the space bar. However, if I want to jump to time,
(for example), all I hear is control j. It does not say jump to time, and
if I try to arrow left or right to read the time I just hear blank. If I press
a number to write the time in that isn't where my pc cursor is. Apparently
visually the time does come up and is flashing on the monitor but since I
cannot access it it is of no help to me. And all the other jaws commands are
the same. I cannot even close WinAmp using alt f4. I am running the latest
version of WinAmp and Jaws 6.2. Does anyone have any idea what might be going
on? I'd be greatful for any advice or tips.

Thank you very much,
Joy

Re: [JAWS-Users] WinAmp problem, Again!

2008-06-23 Thread Joy Cyr
Dear Andrew,
As long as the update window doesn't open then I can cycle through the windows
using control tab. If the window I want isn't open then insert w and arrowing
down and hitting enter on the correct function works.

I don't remember the exact number of the version I'm currently using, but it
and the previous version I used (it was just updated) were both 5 point
something so I think these methods should work for you, ... do they?

I'm greatful for this programme but it really has some major kinks I wish
they'd work out of it.

Best of luck,
Yours,
Joy

Thank you. No control j doesn't work in all windows but I'm in one of the ones
it works in before I press it since I first pause the track using the space bar
which also only works in certain windows.

Appreciate the suggestion,

Re: [JAWS-Users] What do the rest of you do?

2008-06-15 Thread Joy Cyr
I haven't had any such problem, ... I guess I've found an advantage to having
an older version. However, wouldn't unloading Jaws and restarting it work,
instead of having to turn off the computer?

Just a thought,

Well I too tried the link and while the page came up, and I did click on the

did nothing at all.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Media Player 11

2007-10-10 Thread Joy Cyr
Carlene,
Don't feel stupid, ... may I welcome you to the pleasures of version eleven?

I had gotten it to work some time back with cds but found it a horrible
experience and promptly down graded as far back as that version of Windows XP
would allow. Unfortunately the one with the dvd player program in it is
running off of Vista and it won't let me run a more accessible (civilized)
older version.

Best of luck, hope you get yours to co-operate with you. I would suggest to
anyone wondering whether or not to try eleven that if you do not need to
upgrade you Don't!

Well, I feel really stupid because I can't duplicate what I did before.
I saw it before, but can't bring it up now. You could always try Media
10 until you can get another program. It is more accessible. I can't
seem to get anything to play directly from the CD. It just wants to ad
it to my library.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Media Player 11

2007-10-10 Thread Joy Cyr
Unfortunately that dialogue box is NOT what comes up.

Hi:

I haven't actually played a DVD with Media 11, but have played with
CD.'s., but when you choose play, it should automatically come up with
a dialogue box asking you what action you want to take, play, take no
action, or automatically ad to your library. I might not have the
wording right, I'll have to play with it more. Make sure that classic
layout is chosen. Perhaps that's why you're not seeing those choices.

 Hi
I agree that it is a frustrating program. What I have done is to go to
My computer and access the video disk drive directly. It takes a little
hunting but by clicking on different files you can usually find one that
will play the movie. If any one finds a video player that is easily
 accessible I am interested.

I am trying to play a dvd using this program. Is there anyway for Jaws to
navigate its controls!?! I did manage to press the play dvd button but
after that I only get blank I can't bring up a menu or even close the
window using either cursor. I am very frustrated. I can get another
program installed but that won't be for a few days and I had wanted access
to this dvd ASAP, so any suggestions would be most welcome!

[JAWS-Users] Controlling Jaws with Dragon naturally?

2007-09-14 Thread Joy Cyr
I wondered does anyone have any experience controlling Jaws with Dragon
Naturally? I want to work on doing this. I will be using Dragon 9 and Jaws 8.
Are there any specific Jaws settings I will want to use, or to avoid? Any
advice or suggestions to navigate well are very welcome.
Thank you all for your help.
