[JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 Issue

2009-02-03 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Hi All,

I am back on the list after a couple of years off list. I have an issue
that has developed that I hope someone can help with. It is fairly complex
so it will take a little bit to explain it.

I am using XP Professional with all updates. I am using Outlook 2000.

I recently installed JAWS 10.

The problem is when I go to reply to an e-mail, I am unable to type in the
body of the message.

This only happens if I have gone to Internet Explorer while Outlook is open
and minimized.

When this happens I hear the autoforms sound that I set up for leaving a
forms field on a web page when I go to the body of the message. I turned off
the autoforms and turned off the sound while in outlook through JAWS
verbosity, but that didn't help. It is almost like JAWS still thinks I am
on a web page.

If I go and close Internet Explorer and close Outlook, and then reopen
Outlook, the problem does not occur.

Anybody else experience this and is there a permanent solution?

I opened a ticket at Freedom Scientific through the mail but the next time I
signed on I didn't have the problem so I cancelled the ticket.

Re: [JAWS-Users] QuickBooks and Jaws

2008-01-08 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Sounds like an opportunity for someone who writes scripts as this issue has
come up several times on other blind lists I am on. I know I would surely be
interested in scripts for Quickbooks as well. As it is, I have to pay a
sighted individual to use it for my business.

It doesn't.

I had a client who wanted to work with it, and I had to call FS to find out,
and they said it didn't work with JAWS. Quicken does, however.

I pretty much agree with what David has to say about iTunes. If I had to do
over again I would purchase the ZenStone rather than the Ipod Shuffle. Check

out Rick Harmon's review of the ZenStone on his website Blind-Geek-Zone.com.

It's under the audio and podcast tutorials.

As far as scripts goes, I have some simple but crude scripts that I use with

iTunes that allow me to transfer files between the iTunes library and my
Shuffle. If it weren't for iTunes being so inaccessible, the iPod Shuffle
would be great for the blind user. I think it all boils down to the
accessibility of the download service, not the player.

Take care,
Russ

I personally have nothing but bad news in relation to I-Tunes and have
found it to be completely inaccessible. I believe that it is possible to buy
some scripts but the program is so screen reader unfriendly I personally did
not want to go that route.

There are clearly some blind users who have used the I-Pod but If it is at
all possible to change your choice I would recommend the Creative Zen
Stone1GB. This is completely accessible and will play files copied across
simply with Windows Explorer with no need for irksome intermediate software.
Operation is simple and file transfers are fast.

If you want the copy protected stuff from sites like Audible.com then I
believe the more expensive option of things like the Victor Reader Stream
may be indicated.

I am probably getting an I Pod Shuffle for Christmas but wanted to make sure
the I Tunes web site/software is going to work and play nicely with JFW. I
am on JFW 9. I found some references on the net regarding prior JAWS
versions and scripts for I Tunes but was wondering if those scripts have
been implemented in the new JFW 9 release. Any
experiences/advice/suggestions is appreciated. Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 9 (Bad CD)

2007-12-03 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Hi All,

I received an e-mail a week or so ago that said there were some bad JAWS CDs
shipped but that they were sending replacements for those. Unfortunately I
received two CDs today. My wife tells me there is no postage date on either
package.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to determine which is the bad CD and
which is the good CD?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Info Bar

2007-11-28 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
I need a little help here even though I shouldn't. Apparently one of the
things to go when you get old is memory. LOL I can't remember how to get to
the info bar to change settings to allow links in my incoming e-mail to be
clickable. I do not open e-mails from people I don't know but I need to be
able to click on the links in some e-mails to get to the site. I don't think
this has always done this but it tells me to click on the info bar to change
the settings so that I can click on the links. I have no clue where the info
bar is and don't find it with my normal JAWS keys. I am using XP
Professional and JAWS 8.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] algeebra

2007-10-21 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Hi Shurl,

It is my own opinion of course, but it will be impossible for you to do it
unless you have enough sight to read the screen. When I took it a few years
ago at Kaplan, I had to have a sighted person assist with the class because
there are symbols and signs that JAWS does not read. That class cost me my
4.0 GPA as I ended up with a 3.0 in the class. It was a tough class for me.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 8 and blue screen of Death

2007-10-05 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
I can't help with that problem but my suggestion is never, ever, ever, buy a
Dell computer. If you get a good one everything is OK, if you get a bad one
(which happens a lot) you are stuck with one that will never work correctly
and it is never their fault, and it is never covered by their warranty.

 Hello everyone,

I am looking into different online music services such as Napster,
Rhapsody, and if nothing else iTunes. I was just wondering, which, if
any, of the online music services have the best user interface when using
JAWS 8.0? I know there are scripts for iTunes but I rather dislike having

to pay for the scripts unless the program is the best out there. I'm not
trying to download the music for an iPod, simply just to have on my
 computer and burn onto CDs.

 Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

2007-09-09 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Hi Shannon,

Are you saying that the download manager is JAWS friendly as well as the
website? I usually don't have sighted help when I am trying to download or
burn CDs so it would have to be completely accessible. Is this your
experience with the service?

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

Hi Michael,

About 2 weeks ago I joined a music service called eMusic. I have spent some
time researching music services and finally chose this one for the following

reasons:

- it has over 2 million songs from 13000 labels in the MP3 format

- you get 25 free downloads during the 2 week trial period that are yours
to keep regardless what you decide to do after the trial

- how's $.33 a song sound? You heard me. And depending on what program
you subscribe to it can be less. Check out the following:

1. $9.99 for 30 songs for about $.33 a song

2. $14.99 for 60 songs for about $.30 a song

3. $19.99 for 75 songs for about $.27 a song

You download a download manager. I use Windows Media Player 11 to
play, burn CD's, and sync to a Creative Zen M. So far so go. I've included
a link below for you to visit and get the details. It is Jaws compatible.
Good luck. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessabillity of Online Music Services

Hello everyone,

I am looking into different online music services such as Napster, Rhapsody,

and if nothing else iTunes. I was just wondering, which, if any, of the
online music services have the best user interface when using JAWS 8.0? I
know there are scripts for iTunes but I rather dislike having to pay for the

scripts unless the program is the best out there. I'm not trying to
download the music for an iPod, simply just to have on my computer and burn
onto CDs.

Thanks,
Michael

2007-09-05 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Tab once past the spot where you put the file name and you will find a pull
down box that indicates the kind of file you are saving. Choose the one you
want. It is easy.

[JAWS-Users] I changed something but I don't know what.

2007-08-28 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Hi All,

I have no idea what I did but somehow in Microsoft Word I have messed
something up. JAWS is now reading all kinds of stuff in Word. As an example
if I type The cat ran from the dog. JAWS reads The sentence like this.
The space marker cat space marker ran space marker from space marker the
space marker dog paragraph marker.

Anyone have an idea of what I did so I can undo it?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks,

To reverse this change, open a document in Microsoft word then hit
ctrl-shift-8. This is a toggle, so when it's on it marks everything. It
should be off, for comfort, unless you're doing thorough proof-reading.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word Problems

2007-08-27 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Sounds like a corrupted install may have occurred. If it is a legal copy,
and it should be if it is Office 2003 because of the way Microsoft handles
activation now, she may be able to go download it again.

She isn't a JAWS user; she is a sighted user.

An update: When my father installed the software to her computer, he got
 an
error message saying he had exceded the number of installs (He said
downloads); but Word worked for her earlier today.

 Hi there,
What version of JAWS does she use? She should
use JAWS 6.0 or higher in order to get full
 Office 2003 support.
 Cheers,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word Problems

Hello everyone,

I just got a call from my sister who is on
her first night at college. Anyway she told
me that tonight Microsoft Word is
nonfunctional; she can not type, click, or do
much of anything in Word. I told her to do a
system restore to yesterday to no availe; I
think she is using Office 2003 as I recall,
as that is what my father installed on my
laptop a few days before he did hers.

Does anyone know what might be wrong and how
I might go about helping her fix this? My
father (Who installed the program) is away
for the evening and she's got a paper to
 type.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Michael
