[JAWS-Users] Could someone please help me with a JAWS problem?

2016-12-30 Thread Steve Boodram

Hi All, no matter how much time I reinstall JAWS the programme just won't
start. I
get the message "one or more shared components are missing. Please reinstall
this product in an effort to fix this problem."
I was using JAWS 17 64bit but when I tried to upgrade to JAWS 18 the problem
started. Now not even JAWS 17 or lower won't install.

I am using NVDA to write this email and I don't know how to disable AVG so
uninstalled the antivirus altogether.

Please help me someone.

Thanks a million.

Somehow, I’ve ended up with duplicate tracks on multiple albums. They
probably run into the thousands and I’d like to delete them. I found the
following on Apple’s site: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2905

This is fine if it were only a few tracks, but I’d like to be able to delete
them all at once or at least in large batches. This option isn’t mentioned

Either with iTunes itself or a Jaws accessible third party software? Way

Hello list members, well I have been out of the Internet world due to the

regret.

I am having problems receiving emails from a list of which I am subscribed

Yes I am quite able to state that Gene has all the licenses that he needs
paid for out of his own pocket because I set it up almost a year ago.

I guess it has been far too long since I made the point that all who are
subscribed on here may ask questions no matter of their respective skill
level and somebody who feels that they are more advance doesn't approve of
the manner said question was stated remember this little fact. Back when I
was teaching at the local community college I always reminded my students
that nobody is the best at computers, there will always be a person who
knows more or at least different stuff. I even went on to say that there
were many people better than me but none of them were in the room at that
time.

I told them that if any of you were better than me you wouldn't be sitting
there and I would not be sitting up here. I must admit that the teachers
chair was more comfortable but I didn't get to stay in it very much.

Never the less nobody should ever feel embarrassed or afraid to ask a
question on here, that was at the very Genesis of this list.

If anybody feels like they have been put down call it to the attention of
the management team listed on the help page. I do read all of the mail on
here but with upwards of 50 messages a day give or take something might
have

slipped past me in the rush.

So a up-date and not so correct sentences.
First off I found a person, not on this group that was willing to work
with

myself and this computer.
A: First off with all virus protection, which three they are all paid Pro
programs.
B: Still using Outlook Office as work for home and e-mail but will in time
go to Outlook Office 2010 after finishing training in it. Just to busy
training for up grades for AAA call center.
C: I use Quicken 10 thinking and that runs my home entirely.
That said. This is a Windows 7 and the owner on this list knows what it
all
has in it. Which Jaws 13 latest was working grand on it. When Internet 9
was

installed, I decided to go with Jaws 14 that I have a license for.
First stripping all of Jaws 13 and all associated to it.
Then installed Jaws 14 February release. This proven to be a frustration
as

it would freeze up.
I did report and to this date not heard from FS Tech that is looking at
the

dump files that was told on HIGH Priority.
That said, I asked questions here and because of sentence and language
barriers.. Well, I contacted a friend that uses Jaws here and there. He
uses

another screen reader but this is Jaws group.
First off he noted that this machine was more or less set up for gamers.
Thus noted go to the web site and see what recommendations and then to the
Microsoft site and see the optional up dates see if related to the cards
and

bingo so down loaded them.
Also installed with this gentleman's Help the newest of Java for windows 7
and 64 bit and installed. Unlike some comments on the list. It is a valued
tool here and there. FS, Tech, also advised that one should have the
latest

of Java as noted on their site.
Because of the Jaws not coming back and well just turn the power off on
four

different times. So Friday I did a complete disc clean up, left over night
to do it's thing, the last step 7 hours. then After work did a defrag. To
this point Jaws 14 seems by all accounts working and no disappearance of
Jaws 14 to this point. I am going to leave it on all day today to see if
Jaws 14 will still be there anytime during the day and evening. If so the
ideas that my friend in Louisiana, who has a heart of Gold, willing to

hi, do you know how to get into the registry?you might be able to fix
things

by going into the registry and deleting anything that says
freedomscientific.
sometimes when you have to uninstall a program, you have to make sure to
delete all traces of the program. like after you uninstall Jaws, then you
go

into the program files and find the freedomscientif c folder and totally
delete it with the shift delete key. It will ask you if you want to erace
the folder or not. I must tell you, if you do the shift delete command, it
will not move it to the recycle bin folder. Instead it will totally erace
the folder you are trying to delete.
So, you'll probably have to uninstall Jaws and delete the
freedomscientific

folder afterwords.
Then, go into the windows registry by using the run dialog with windows
key

r, then typing, regedit.exe
Now, after you hit enter, you will see a bunch of registry folders that
are

either open or closed. The first one you will probably see first, is HKEY
classes Root. it will either say open or closed just go down until it says
something like, HKEY current user. open that folder with right arrow and
go

down till you see the folder called software. open that folder and go down
until you see the Freedomscientific folder. just hit the delete key and it
will ask you if you want to delete the registry folder. Hit Y for yes and
it

will be deleted.
Next, hit left arrow a couple of times till you close the HKEY Current
user

folder.
Then, go down again until you see the folder called, HKEY local machine.
open that folder with right arrow and go down until you see the software
folder. open the folder and go down until you see the freedomscientific
folder. delete that folder and hit left arrow until you close the HKEY
local

machine folder. Sorry if this is too long, but I hope I helped you.

Do you have another screen reader like NVDA so you can do this? I'm not
sure

if it will fix your problem, but sometimes programs will get corrupted,
and
even an uninstall and a reinstall won't help, unless, as a last resort,
you
have to go unto the windows registry folder and deleting the program
folder.

If all else fails, maybe try a reformat of windows.

Is there a way to have Jaws say smiley or smiley face instead of J,
when a colon and a right parenthesis are put together?

Thanks,

They fixed a lot of memory issues from xp to win7. Now its just bad
programming of software you have to worry about. One tip is any download
you do. Try tabbing or rout jaws to pc and read that screen. That way you
know what you are installing is what you want and not a bunch of crap that
is coming with downloads.

For too long this problem has been a source of concern for blind people

Hi Steve,
Yes, open the system properties dialogue,
and you will find the amount of installed ram, and the amount that is
useable.
If you are not sure how to get there, do the following:
1. Press the Windows key + The Pause key, to open the system properties
dialogue.
The pause key is usually located near the top of the keyboard next to the
scroll lock key,but this will vary from keyboard to keyboard, especially
with laptops.
If you are not sure where the Pause key is, then turn your Jaws keyboard
help on, with Insert + 1, on the number row,
so Jaws will echo the keys as you press them.
This is a toggle, so when you are finished, use the same keystroke to turn
it off.
2. Route Jaws to Pc, and then arrow down to find the relevant information.
Once you have what you need, press escape, or Alt F4 to close the
properties

dialogue.
HTH,
Rick Justice

They'll show up as individual voices under one Vocalizer Direct

won't interfere with using Eloquence as your default synthesizer.

Yes. Eloquence is the default but you can use other synths with JAWS.
From JAWS 14 and newer Vocalizer Direct voices is also supported and they
can be downloaded from FS's website.
You can also use voices/synths that are SAPI 5 compatible like Ivona and
Acapela should work fine as well.

They'll show up as individual voices under one Vocalizer Direct
profile, so you will have to tweak your voice settings to sample
multiple voices. Not to worry though, profiles are easily deleted

and

won't interfere with using Eloquence as your default synthesizer.

I don't use Outlook express, but I doubt you can re-label a link from
within
that or any other program, and I'm not sure why you would want to. From
the

web site itself, with focus on the link, either press ctrl+insert+tab or
press insert+f2, and hit C until you hear Custom Label and press enter,
and

type the desired label and hit enter.

less data mining on you, and use the same alphanumeric syntax in the edit

accessible. It does not force their idea on what your search terms should
be as you type them in. As in google, h for heading hops u from search

that, it would be great to know.

Thank you,

What doesn't work?

Try this approach. From the message list, press ctrl+shift+O for the
Options tab control and then press ctrl+tab to get into the Read Tab.
Uncheck the 'mark message as read after displaying for' checkbox by
pressing spacebar.

[JAWS-Users] Looking for an address book and email client that works best with JAWS and Windows 7 Ultimate

2011-02-02 Thread Steve Boodram

Hi friends, have been virtually non-existent for months on the list due to
slipping in and out of moments of depression cause by the death of my
mother.
To make things worlse I accidentally formatted the secondary harddrive of my
machine where I had all my stuff backed up.

Anyway I got Windows 7 installed on my machine and need a program that works
similar to Outlook express and and address book that could be incoorperated
into Windows 7 that is accessible with JAWS 11.
Thanks. Heard Thunderbird is accessible but not sure. In addition I am sorry
if this question had been raised before. My apologies to richard and the
moderating team if I caused the list to be clustered with repeated posts.

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a TV Tuner card for my PC, an internal one to be
exact.

I am currently using Windows XP Home Edition and Jaws 11 latest build.

The software to watch and record live TV with the card is almost wholly
inaccessible, so I was wondering what software I could use, preferably
free, as all my money went out the door for the card that is accessible,
or, at the very least, accessible to the tune of the Jaws cursor, and is
able to run on Windows XP.

Oh, and in case any of you are thinking about it, no, upgrading operating
systems is not an option for me at the moment.

Either way, thanks for everyone's help folks.

Hi Julie, This is Vicky. Sorry that it took so long to get back to you!
  A
lot has been happening and I needed to be out of town.

However, about the Access tutorials, Yes, I think they still have uce.
  They
introduce the Access program and show you what Access can do for you and
  how
you can tailor it for your needs.

Whenever, their command did not work, I just used the ALT key and looked
through the menus to find a command that sounded like it would do the
same
  thing.

As I went through the tutorial, I wrote down notes and put in all the
command keystrokes for my own cheetsheet.

I still think it would be valuable to you.

  Sincerely Vicky

oh boy. If you would be required to use access on the job and don't
know
access, it would depend on how complicated your use would be. It isn't
a
program you can learn in a few simple lessons. there is so very much to
  it.
If the job would require you to be able to learn access by a certain
  length

of
my old notes on access from when I was teaching it, but I'm not sure. I

Thanks Lenn. I copied your message and will pass it along to my friend. I
use to start small and move up the tech chain when trying to figure out
what
was wrong with JAWS and my mean machine. Now days though, I've adopted the
attitude that if JAWS hiccups, it has the flu.

 In all probability, yes!
By replacing his speakers he essentially did the same procedure that I
used
in order to locate the problem. I just unplugged and re-connected the
speakers and it started talking normally. I am convinced that the problem
is
 with my sound card.
One thing your friend could do is, assuming it is a separet card, would be
to remove and reseat the card. It also could be a dirty or loose
connection. Not a big problem to replace if I have too. I just need some
sighted help to activate the on board sound card. It was turned off in the
 system bios.
It quite possibly still could be with my mother board, will not know that
 until I switch sound cards.
I think I have another sound card from an old computer. Just hope the
problem is with the sound card. At least I know where the problem is that
is
 hardware as opposed to software.
Funny, for many years when I was a systems analysts I would first look at
hardware for intermittent problems. For a few months I have been blaming
software for the problems, specifically spyware.
The problem almost always happens when jaws is unloaded for a few hours
then
 reloaded.

  Hi Steven,

I also get that popping sound from my speakers, when I'm using my
laptop.

Are you using a laptop when you hear these popping sounds?

Is your laptop a Toshiba brand laptop?

Do you hear the popping sounds in conjunction with any other sounds,
such
  as
e-mail receiving, or a window refreshing, or Internet Page or link
getting
  entered on?

I have a Toshiba laptop, along with software that turns my laptop's
  speakers
  into surround sound system speakers.

Not only does it broaden the sound quality of them, but it also
increases
the base, treble and all that other stuff.

Great when you're trying to listen to a described movie on your computer
  or
some really hip music, but when you're working, and Jaws is reading the
information on the page, along with snap, crackle and pop...Uhm, not so
  great...

You'll be happy to know that there is a way to fix that, if the normal
way
  doesn't work.

If you bring up the default configuration file for Jaws by hitting the
insert+F2, then C for configuration manager, and open the default file,
press alt+S and arrow up to Synthesizer Options.

Once in the box, make sure the check box that says Allow wave files with
  software synthesizers is checked.

tab to the ok button, save with the control+S, and alt+F4 out of the
  configuration manager.

If that still doesn't fix the problem, check your system tray for any
  sound
  related applications.

An example I can use is on my computer and it's called Toshiba Virtual
Sound. This is the program that comes with the laptop, as part of the
included software and is also the software responsible for expanding and
broadening the sound when ever I play a media file.

Like I said, if you can shut this feature off, if you have it, that is,
it
might fix a great deal of the snapping, crackling and popping.

  Let us know what happens.

  Victor

 Hi Steve,
While you have this particular message that causes that sound,
go thru it word for word, and line for line.
I suspect that it is either a word, or word combination that causes the
 noise.
I've had the same thing on several machines, with different soundcards.

Could it be that you have somehow assigned a sound in the Jaws dictionary

  Hi Chris,

I have, and continue to use, Winfax Pro, I think the latest version is
10
  or
  11.

I find this program to be completely accessible with Jaws, and
everything
  is
done via dialog boxes, with a wizard, if you choose.

You can even create cover pages with it, and send it along with your
  document.

The best part of this is, if you like to use Word or WordPerfect to
  compose
your documents, it will extract the document, as a file, and send it
  along
with the fax. I don't know if it does it with any other word
processor,
  as
I usually use Word for my letters, but like I said, it's really easy to
  use.

Another trick I've learned, is to create a JPG file with my signature,
albeit, with some sighted assistance to crop it and make it rectangular
  to
fit the document, but once it's done, you can just paste it anywhere,
whether in a letter created by Word, or in the Winfax software, and
  voila,
you have an instantly signed document that you can fax anywhere you
want.

  Hope this helps.

  Victor

OK here's the deal I made the transition just as smooth as I possibly
could for all concerned, in fact I have had several people thank me for
doing such a nice job of it. So if changing an email address is too much
work for anybody then that's just too bad in my opinion. I do this as a
hobby and hopefully some good in the process will come out of it. Nobody
is required to be here at all, so take that for what it's worth. I'm
normally quite an even mannered guy but this is going too far already.
Now
having said this I bid all good night. Rick if anything goes on over
night
handle it as you see fit, I'll back you up all the way.
