Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 and iTunes...totally stumped on Adding Musicto my iPhone
You know, I have not. That is actually what I'm trying as soon as this JAWS 14 update installs. Admittedly, I thought of that, but then said to myself "iTunes is an Apple product. No way it's going to be that simple." Ha ha… I'll let you guys know if that works. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 and iTunes...totally stumped on Adding Music to my iPhone
Hi, all. Well, the subject line pretty much says it all. I can do pretty much everything else in iTunes with JF W and the blindtunes scripts, but unless I am missing something, seem to be unable to drag music over to my iPhone 4S. Because my library is nearly 2 TB, and my phone it self is only a 16 GB, with 10.6 GB free, obviously, I do not want it to automatically sync. So, what I have done, and this could be where I am going wrong, is set it for me to add music manually. Then, I selected the songs I want, Which seems to work fine. After selecting a group of songs, and I have tried this with several different groups of songs, I hit control shift D to drag. It asks me to select my destination, so I then select my iPhone from the source sidebar. I hit inter-as instructed, it says "please wait". That message stays up for about two seconds, and then tells me to go back to the original location, and hit enter there. I do that. However, no music appears on my phone. I have tried this with both some single tracks, as well as a 42 track selection from the band Shinedown. So, is this a problem with blindtunes, or what? Or, do I have a setting wrong somewhere or am I missing a step? I do have an iPhone guide that was put out by a couple of people in 2010… But it doesn't quite seem to give the information that I need. That was long before the four or the for S came out also, as a just in case move, I did select music under my iPhone at one time and try dragging the music from the computer there. That also did not work. I've had no other trouble with iTunes and JAWS working together. It's only in the department of moving music to my phone. Any help would be appreciated, especially since I am going on a trip over the weekend, and may not have service and some areas and would like some music to listen to. LOL For the record, most of this stuff is in the MP3 format as it's stuff I've ripped from my own collection or bought off of a non-iTunes source. Mostly stuff I ripped from my own CD collection. Re: [JAWS-Users] Chrome; mostly works, But a Combo Box Issue
Actually, I did attempt that, and it seems to make no difference. Though, that wouldn't work so well because I probably have 12 or so playlists to choose from. So, if I'm adding stuff to, say, active rock, that might work… But if I'm adding it to outlaw country, since that's so far down, not going to work. Not sure if I mentioned it, but first letter navigation doesn't work since all of the options start with the word "ad two". So, I just can't just hit P for pop rock or r for regular rock. [JAWS-Users] Chrome; mostly works, But a Combo Box Issue
Hey, all. Haven't posted in a long time; been finding I get most of my answers by tinkering around, or by posting to Twitter. Anyhow, I have one that's a bit long and has me a little stumped. Hoping someone can help. I am presently running JFW 14, latest build. Normally, I use Internet Explorer or Firefox. However, I have run into a site that only seems to work for me with Google Chrome. However, with that site, I am having a minor issue. Anyone who knows me knows that I am the co-owner of Mojo radio, an Internet radio station. The automation system we use, live web DJ, currently only runs on Firefox or chrome. Where's the problem with this? Well, when I try to run it in Firefox, Firefox completely crashes about 90% of the time. It is the only site that does this to me On a consistent basis. For this purpose, I installed, and decided to test, Google Chrome. My cited relatives use it, and absolutely love it. I have been very resistant. On the site, when I am managing the media library in particular, there are combo boxes. One box is for exploring particular playlists; the other is for performing actions with the songs I have checked off. Deleting, or adding to one of my many playlists. The problem I am running into is that Unlike every other browser, I cannot simply scroll through the combo box to select the option I want. It simply selects the first option I get to when I down arrow. Yes, I have tried alt plus down arrow to open the box, thinking that that might allow me to read it. Works in every program accept this one. In Firefox, I can scroll through, once I find the option I want, I simply hit the tab key and it adds it to the specified playlist or asks me if I really want to delete it Other than that, Chrome works flawlessly with live web DJ. It doesn't crash, it doesn't hang or freeze… So, anyone know how I can easily work around this combo box issue? Running the latest builds of both JFW and Google Chrome as of yesterday. Thanks. Other option would be, does anyone know of a fix for Firefox so that it it doesn't tank so easily? Again, running the latest version of that as well. [JAWS-Users] Looking for Timer Software that works with JAWS
Hello. I work for my local talking book/braille library, and we're setting up a patron access computer with JAWS, as well as magnification software. Our IT staff needs to find software for timing/logging patrons off, similar to what the public libraries in our system are using. A couple programs have been tried with mixed results. One didn't work with JAWS to let the patron know their time was up. The other did work with JAWS, but a "Stop" button was visible, so a patron could feasibly stop the timer and be on the computer as long as he or she wanted. Does anyone know of a good program for accomplishing this task? Basically, it needs to log the patron off after a set interval, but also needs to warn the patron verbally as time is getting closer, but we don't want the patron to be able to disable it and mess around with it. A free trial would also be appreciated so that we can evaluate the software. You may feel free to contact me off-list if necessary. Again, I'd say that's a matter of perception, and/or what you're trying to do. I used to agree; Myspace wasn't great for accessibility. And yes, it still has room for improvement...but for adding friends, reading blogs, reading/creating bulletins and messages, it works pretty well. Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook: is it accessible?
Hi, Erin. I'm using it pretty well with JAWS 10. I find some parts of the site work better with FireFox, but initial set-up of my profile seemed to work better for me with Internet Explorer (though, since they've redesigned the site in the last couple weeks, I don't know if that's still true). I did my initial registration with FireFox, and used WebVissum to copy the captcha code successfully. My guess is, you'll have to go to JAWS 9 or 10. I'd been a very satisfied user of Easy Cd And Easy Media Creator until it became almost impossible from version 7 on, so it'd be cool to go back to it. Thanks. [JAWS-Users] Backing Up Outlook Files, and Going from XP to Vista
Hello. I've recently purchased a new laptop, and it should be shipping from Dell soon. With this purchase, I'm upgrading from XP to Vista...Or, according to some of my friends, downgrading as the case may be. I'm also going from Office 2003 to 2007. I've figured out how I plan to move all my files as far as documents, FireFox favorites/passwords, and all that. What do I do to move all my outlook mail and restore it in Outlook 2007? I've moved the folder/message structure between user profiles on the same computer running Outlook 2003 before...Is the process the same, or is there something different I need to do? Also, is this something doable with JAWS 10, or will sighted assistance be needed? Also, I'll admit I've resisted going to Vista for some time...Mainly because I didn't need to..But now, I need the new laptop, and of course Vista Home is what it has. Any tips for making a smooth transition? I honestly don't think I've had any of my friends, sighted or blind, speak positively of the experience. I consider myself a pretty advanced/skilled Windows and JAWS user, but based on the reviews, I'm not particularly looking forward to this one. :) Finally, I know how to back up my Firefox settings, but haven't been able to find documentation on how to do the same for mine and my wife's Internet Explorer 7 settings...Anyone have some tips for doing this? She's sighted, but I'll likely be doing most of the backing up from our desktop, but letting her put the stuff on her own laptop, so I'm hoping it's as simple as with FireFox; backing a folder up onto our flash drives or external hard drive. Re: [JAWS-Users] the new iTunes 8 screen reader friendly
This is great news. A friend was trying to use the fact that GW Micro was working with Apple on iTunes accessibility to get me to consider switching to WindowEyes. I've been a very satisfied JAWS user since 1997, and am not sure I could ever switch. However, though I'm sure Brian's JTunes scripts are great, I've never run across scripts I've had to pay for. I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen anyone come up with a good set of free iTunes scripts...So hearing it works well with the current JFW release is wonderful news. -Original Message- From: Flor Lynch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2008 3:55 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] the new iTunes 8 screen reader friendly As it happens, ITunes8 is also quite accessible to JAWS9 (without the need for extra pay-for scripts such as JTunes). As long as they're not protected WMA files, or if you have the right license from wherever you downloaded/purchased the files, Winamp's "Transcoder" will convert them to MP3...However, I think you might have to have Winamp Pro, which will also rip and burn, for $19.95. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of carla jo Sent: Saturday, May 10, 2008 5:17 PM To: jaws Subject: [JAWS-Users] considering purchasing I sent this to David earlier and he said it was okay to ask the group for your opinions. Re: [JAWS-Users] a question on how to get a Power Braille 65/80 workingwith Jaws
Hi, Scott. I use a PowerBraille 65 at work, but it's unfortunately on a Windows 2000 system. We have ours on Com1, which I think is a serial port instead of a parallel port...But the steps you've taken sound exactly like what I do every time I install PowerBraille for myself and a coworker. The only thing I can suggest, and I'm REALLY not being sarcastic here, is to make sure the power switch to the PowerBraille is turned on. I know this seems obvious, but I deal with a couple people who notoriously turn theirs off at night, forget to flip them back on in the morning, and wonder why they're getting no braille support. That's about the only thing I can think of...Also, I had no idea the PowerBraille had a battery, so I'd also suggest plugging it in. Just a thought. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott Berry Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 8:36 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] a question on how to get a Power Braille 65/80 workingwith Jaws Hello there, I am wondering if someone can help me out here. I have a Power Braille 80 and I want to get it working with Jaws. I am using Windows Vista Home Edition Premium. Here are the steps I have followed: 1. I connected the PB 80 to the power supply and charged the battery. 2. I have a parallel cable going in to the only parallel port I have which is a printer port and it is considered lpt1. 3. I then go to the Synth and Braille Manager and tell it I want to use the PB 80 on LPT1 And check the Pb80 display check box with in the Synth and Braille Manager. 4. I then say finish to the Synth and Braille Manager and start Jaws as asked by Jaw's executable. 5. I restart Jaws and then Jaws is complicated by a Windows error which says that the application meaning Jaws will not run. I have two questions here. Does the Pb 80 need bidirectional support? I am assuming yes since it needs to talk both ways? Secondly, are there any other settings that any one can suggest? Have a wonderful day. Haven't tried any of them yet, but am considering trying out Carbonite...As an XM subscriber, I can apparently get a couple free months if I go to xm.carbonite.com, so might be worth a shot to see if it works...Then, if it does, $50 a year isn't bad. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 9 and Outlook Express
Marsha. Which version of OE are you using? I've used OE for several years now, and even with JAWS 9, have experienced no issues with it whatsoever. In my case, I'm running whatever the latest version that came with IE7 is...Though, I've switched to regular Outlook, mostly because my PACMate won't sync with the OE address book, but will with Outlook. The only thing I might suggest, and you may have already done this, is to maximize OE when you launch it. --- Visit my blog: http://wesderby.blogspot.com. Nope...You will need a sighted person to read the captcha code required before you can uninstall anything. Re: [JAWS-Users] Usable Blog Software
I know it's past February 11, but so far, I'm finding blogger to be pretty easy. The hardest part was signing up, only because they intentionally garble/put background noise on the audio captcha, so you have to listen closely. Otherwise, I got my template set up, added my AdSense profile, and created my first post tonight. I did use the "Edit HTML" option so I could write the code for my post myself and not have to worry about all of blogger's attribute settings getting in the way. If anyone wants to read my one lonely post to see how I did, it's wesderby.blogspot.com. Over all, I found it VERY easy to set up and use, and to configure. The help articles are well-written and gave me all the information I needed. The layout options are easy to use, and the standard WYSIWYG editor is easily found with JAWS after you click the "Edit HTML" icon...Not really a link, more of a clickable object. The one I personally found the be very difficult to use was my Myspace blog. Maybe it's just me, but there quite a number of parts to that site that are hard to use with JAWS. --- Visit my blog: http://wesderby.blogspot.com. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and norton 2008
Mark. If what you say is true, that's at least a step up from Norton 2007. I found that, even with the JAWS cursor, I couldn't get to certain parts of the screen and activate certain functions. For instance, it'd usually take me three or four tries to get "One Button Check-up" going, and more than that to get to the scheduling options for it and AntiVirus. Before Norton 2007, this had never been a problem. These results were with both JAWS 8 and JAWS 9. --- Visit my blog: http://wesderby.blogspot.com. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and norton 2008
I may be a bit behind on this one, but I just went with the assumption that, since Norton 2007 was an accessibility nightmare with JAWS in many ways, 2008 would probably be the same way. I'd recommend System Suite 8 from AvanQuest. Nice interface, works great with JAWS, and according to my wife, who is sighted, doesn't look too bad visually...So, if you have sighted people using your computer, they won't hate it. I've finally joined the blogosphere, and will be posting a review of the software for functionality and accessibility in the next few days. --- Visit my blog: http://wesderby.blogspot.com. [JAWS-Users] Security Program that Works With JAWS
Hi All. Just wanted to report that I recently purchased System Suite 8 from AvanQuest Software...It's a system security suite, sort of like Norton. It has anti-virus, anti-spyware, system clean-up, and all the other system tools. Just want to report that it works quite well with JAWS...Better than the last few versions of Norton. There are some areas where the JAWS cursor is necessary, but most things can be done with standard keyboard commands and the PC cursor. Not bad for $49.99 at Best Buy. :) I was going to go with AVG, but my wife wanted to try this one first mainly because of price, and I find it to be quite good. [JAWS-Users] Looking for PC Maintenance/AntiVirus Software
Hello. I'm running JAWS9.0 and Windows XP Home edition with all the latest updates. For years, I'd been a satisfied user of Symantec's Norton line of products for internet security and system maintenance. As I'm sure happened to many here, when I bought Norton 2007, I found many of the interfaces pretty inaccessible with JAWS. My subscription is about to subscribe, and I'm wondering what other JAWS users might recommend. I figure, my choices are: Renew my subscription to Norton Internet Security and Systemworks for another year and struggle along Take a chance on Norton 360 or Norton Systemworks 2008 and hope they work with JAWS Or try a whole new program. I don't mind paying, and of course a free option is always welcome...But I'm wondering what system security-type programs you guys would recommend. I saw one at Best Buy that sounds like it'd have everything I need, called System Security 8 by AvanQuest Software. Does anyone here have any experience using it with JAWS, and how well does it work? Another one I saw that looked pretty good for my needs was Microsoft's Windows OneCare Version 2. The pro to both is that they're both cheaper than upgrading Norton.
