[JAWS-Users] for all the Solona users, get well card, for the Solona site

2011-01-26 Thread heather kd5cbl
Forgive me if this posting is in violation but, they are sending this off
right away! I recently received this from the mac list and thought some
folks from the jaws users lists might want to contribute. The person
running the Solona site is rather ill and we are sending him a get well
card. The person solving all those captchas for us is rather ill. He
never found any volunteers so he has been doing all the solving by himself!
So now you know why the site is not working hardly anymore! Thanks Heather

Hi folks,

Neil has requested that we send our info in a specific format, so I am
posting his message here:

Best,
Donna

Dear All,

It has recently come to the attention of me that Bernard who tirelessly has
worked on our communities behalf through his efforts with Solona.net has
fallen ill... the exacting nature of his illness is not known, however, as
many of you have commented his efforts in helping us through all manner of
adaptive tech requires recognition, not to mention our support at what is no
doubt a difficult time right now.

We have a mailing address for Bernard and shall be posting a "get well" card
to him in a week or so.

If you would like to have your name printed and placed on the card, please
send a message to;

serv...@talknav.com

with the subject line of Solona Card.

please only do this in the following format:

first, last names followed by a §-§ and then your country of residence.

We regret that we cannot print additional messages, as the card would turn
into a book, so only your name and country shall be printed.

If you can spread the word as quickly as possible, as we would like to get
the card off as soon as we can.

Hi Anne, try the following.
1. with Word open, go to the menu bar right arrow to format and down to
auto format and press enter.
2. tab to an options button press enter. This opens a multiple page
dialog box. Listen closely as it opens up. I think it will open on the
autoformat
tab, press control and tab and this switches the pages and listen for
"replace as you type". 3. Now tab through this list. One of the check
boxes

is Automatic
number lists. Uncheck this, tab to okay, again tab to okay and I think
this

will fix the auto numbering.

Hi,
I am using XP and word 2003.
I am writing a doc and I type
1. This is a test and press enter.
Then 2 automatically comes up.
Is there a way to automatically turn off this function?
I know I can press enter twice but is there a way to shut it off?
Thanks,

I am not sure about that one! I usually save my ppt as an outline which is
RTF format. I was thinking, is you office a real version or a shadowed copy
for a school or office which actually is not the whole office sweet? It is
like microsoft works or something because I had that problem when I had my

I did see the conversion for .RTF, but for some reason or another and not
just with the powerpoints but with any document; I try and save it in a
.RTF format and it refuses to take the extension. If I could get the
extension and format to take then I would try that. Do you or anyone else

Good evening. I am a student as well, and use PPT's on a routine
basis.

You have several options; the best option is to scan it using either
Kurzweil or Open Book. If you don't have either of those programs, I
suggest you have the school help you obtain one. There are cheaper
options,
from companies such as Nuance, that will allow you to take a PPT file
and
turn it into a Word file, say, which you can then read. It will do
this,

maintaining all the layout and graphical information.

Hello Heather,

Check your JAWS verbosity when in Word 2003 for a Tab Measurement
Indication

item. Use JAWS key with V and then press the letter T until you find that
choice. If it is off then use spacebar to turn on the choice followed by
enter key. I am not at a system with JAWS 10 on it but I think JAWS 10
verbosity should have that item for Word 2003.

Take care.

Whoever told her she could not get O E with w7 is correct. It's no longer
entegraded into the OS. The best she could do is Windows Live Mail, or
she could get Thunderbird, or Outlook from MS Office, but that is the best
she could do.

There are ways out there that are written to hack the OS and get OE, but
trust me, they'll crash the system. I know as I tried that stunt on a

well, yes it's true you can't put OE on windows 7, however, you can put

you need to do a couple registry tweaks, and it will work.

Quite easy
go to the options menu of Jaws
then down arrow to voices which is a sub menu and right arrow to voice
adjustment after entering you will tab through several selections
profile is where you will have general choices like eloquence default
real speak , sappy
wherever you leave this choice determines the following selections
tab through this and you will have a choice for all contexts or down to
other selections like PC voice, jaws cursor voice, tutor and message
voice
and then if you wish something other than all contexts you need to
slso how do I make just the voice I have selectged read everything?
Mandy.elect a specific selection like Daniel, Paul etc.
if you leave the selection in profile to eloquence your selections will
be
reed, Grandpa, Bobby, Glenn Rocco and several others.
Good luck

It started as a question about iTunes and Jaws and options which were
apparently not there but turned out not to be there because iTunes
recognized the equipment did not support those options. I initiated the
thread full in the knowledge that Jaws is not the screen reader of choice
for accessing that application but without an alternative method of
access and fully cognitive of the sensitivity of the moderators to any
suggestion that Jaws may be wanting in any aspect of performance. Many of
us have invested thousands of dollars in Jaws versions over the years and
appreciate the technical support of other Jaws users provided by such a
list which in this case included a link to a podcast, the first part of
which was very helpful in orienting me to the use of Jaws with iTunes, a
resource I would otherwise been unaware of.

I regret drawing the scrutiny of the moderators to any of those who were
so helpful to me in achieving my goals around the use of Jaws and iTunes
and the subsequent information about those devices appropriate to it's
use.

Please accept my responsibility for the transgression and the offense to
the List's sensibilities. I probably should have known better.

no. I have a 3RD gen iPod touch and it has voiceOver builtin.
but, the 16 GB is the second gen.
Their is no 16 GB 3RD jen.
The 3RD gen units are 32 and 64 GB only.
and their is a 4Th jen.

You can only enable voice over on the 4th gen iPod Touches. The third
genn you have to down load it to the iPod and then enable it.
A look at the apple page can give you more info on the iPod you have
at hand, because each one and size is limited in voice over features.

At 01:41 PM 12/27/2010, you wrote:
I was given an iPod Touch to learn the interface and such, not a brand

So far I have managed to install iTunes, got the QuickTime installed
and apparently running then figured out how to disable it from
grabbing all media on the Web. Then for some reason the Apple Mobile
Service wouldn't start but I now have that resolved. I haven't
discovered how to enable the Voiceover.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hello all.
I will publicly state why I am refusing to use JAWS. It is Freedom
Scientific's attitude towards pricing and their license schemes. Some of
us can't or won't afford to buy JAWS, especially if the free one is just
as good as JAWS. As for the license scheme, the user is punished to
license JAWS on up to three machines. With the free and even other
commercial screen readers one can install on as many computers as they
have so long as one machine is used at a time, no questions asked. With
JAWS, once all three authorizations have been used they would then have
to request FS for more keys. Eventually and I will say eventually they
will refuse flat and get paranoid about people sharing authorization
keys. I understand piracy and all that and I certainly don't commit to
any of that stuff however at the same time FS is just asking for money
and not caring about the customer. True there is a dongle option, but
even they can have their fair share of problems. Now for the technical,
I do find the free one to be actually more stable and even works with
more applications than JAWS. You may find this shocking but this is true
according to my personal experience.
Take care.

Hello,
For a couple of weeks now, I have been subscribed and had been using it.
I

found it worth subscribing and seem to learn a lot.

For everybody's kind information, I am a visually impaired man , working
as a teacher in the national institute for the visually impaired. By
profession, I am English language teacher but since 2003 have switched
over
to the teaching of computer to the blind. I really fancied when I heard
of

blind using the computer. Reading Braille materials on the use of computer
by the blind really fascinated me and appealed to the UNICEF for their
grant. I had the opportunity to undergo 3 months basic training in
Thailand

and later came back and started working.

For everybody's kind information, I am from Bhutan, a small nation to the
south of Tibet and north of India. It is a landlocked nation, sandwiched
between two huge giants, the super powers of Asia be it in trade or in
population. The school where I worked started in 1973, the only school
for

the blind in Bhutan.

After my training in Thailand, I decided to start computer training for
the

blind in Bhutan. Through the support of my Norwegian friends we started
project and set up the computer training center and programme for the
blind.

As a first blind person to learn computer in Bhutan, I thought it is my
obligation and convince the rest of the blind folks to learn computer.
Today
through the project, we have trained 30 blind people in the use of
computer

and have provided a laptop each and also teach as a separate subject from
the 1st grade to 8th grade.

Once again, it is a great opportunity to subscribe in this platform from
where I can learn a lot.

Thanking for your kind attention.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to remove your self from the blocked senders listin OE.

2010-09-15 Thread heather kd5cbl
Hay I did that once! You have to go to tools, alt+t, than arrow up to the
message rules subminue. arrow the right and arrow up to block senders list,
push inter. Than it should give you a list of fokes you have blocked. Do
control end key and arrow up depending on where you blocked your e-mail
address. When you find it, tab to remove button and select okay to unblock
your e-mail address. Hope this helps! Heather

[JAWS-Users] question msconfig start up programs

2010-08-25 Thread heather kd5cbl
I was wondering if I can check these programs so they don't start up in my
msconfig. ADOBE-ARM, itunes helper, apple sink notifier, action express
octicbook3600 (my scanner). Does this mean they won't work at all or just
that they don't automatic start running at the beginning when windows starts
up? I have my jaws 11 start up before I have to log in to windows but it
takes a while for it to start. I am wondering if I limitt these programs
from starting up, jaws will come on faster. Heather

[JAWS-Users] Question about IE8 and bing

2010-08-23 Thread heather kd5cbl
Hello did you set up internet explorer or was it set up for you. When you
install ie8 for the first time, that is where you set it up with your
personal features like, wich search providers you want. Otherwise it will
use bing. But you have google as an option in the set up page. I am not
sure how to change it so you can get to options now that ie8 is set up. I
would suggest to remove it from your computer and reinstall it again but, if
anyone knows of a better way, please chime in!

I'm running Jaws 10 with XP and IE8. Every time I load IE8 it comes up with
a bunch of stuff like "Bing" "Favorite center," and such things. To get to
my Igoogle page I have to type Alt-home. Is that correct, or should I be
able to disable the introductory stuff from IE8?

Re: [JAWS-Users] update on the programs page

2010-08-20 Thread heather kd5cbl
Mp3 files are smaller than video files therefore, don't take up as much
space on a hard-drive. So if you like a song, all you need is the mp3
portion of it unless you have to see avideo to go along with it! Also, I
like to download tv shows but I don't need the video portion to be able to
listen to it. Great little program! Heather
