Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW 18. whatever, Windows 10, and Microsoft Office 365

2017-10-09 Thread REGilman
Hi,
In the latest FS cast it said that a Jaws update would be coming out to fix
this problem. I believe it said that it was not going to trigger the
notification that there was an update for Jaws so you will have to check it
manually. So there will be a fix shortly if it is not already there I have
not checked.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi folks.
I recently updated to the latest JFW 18. Whatever version number they are on
this week.
I use Windows 10 and MS Office 365.
Since the update to JFW, Microsoft Outlook no longer reads the email
addresses when I type a person's name into the "to" or "cc" field of
Microsoft Outlook 365.
Is there a fix for this? If not, how do I communicate this problem to the
powers that be at Freedom Scientific?
Thank you

Miriam,

I am one of the co-owners of the group that moved. You are incorrect about
it not having problems with Gmail; that's the main reason Buddy and I moved
it.  It kept bouncing and disabling about eighty gmail users at a time;
about three times in the final thirty days that the group existed using a
mailman server.

I know this is a rather odd request, but for some reason SBC Global is
blocking out this domain as far as I am aware at least.

The problem is Judy Jones is not receiving list mail and wrote to me
privately for help, but when I wrote back her ISP rejected my message.

So if anybody out there knows her please let her know what is going on. Her
email address is:

bunchkinb...@sbcglobal.net

This happens quite often as this domain generates a large amount of email
and some times gets flagged as a source of Spam. Thank you to who ever does
this.

People have to contact their ISPs and explain the problem although many of
them simply deny that they are doing such a thing. A large number of list
subscribers have gone to GMail or other web based email services. So thanks

Gene,

Be specific. I am a frequent shopper at Amazon, and most of their site is
quite accessible.

You need to learn how to get around the clutter; but it works for the most
part quite well.

Since you weren't specific, I wll just put out some general tips:

1. Use navigation shortcuts. In some, but not all listings, the price is
listed in a table. In some instances, many times with third-party sellers,
it may not be. In that case either look for a quantity combobox and you
will see the price in that area or do a search for the Dollar-sign aassuming
you are in the states.

2. I don't use the "accessible site" for some philosophical and logistical
reasons, such as not having a complete description without entering on
another link. I have noticed, when you want to write a review or leave
seller feedback, with Jaws, IE 11 cuts off and does not display the relevant
frame. So, you need to use Firefox to do this task.

3. When you make a purchase, there are buttons und3er shipping options and
payment options where you can change the shipping address, separate
different products to be shipped to different addresses, and choose a
different payment method respectively.

In all, you need a bit of patience, but the site itself is highly
accessible.

Hello Mr. Ed,

I really don't know why JAWS isn't giving you the status information. There
are a few things you can check though.

1. First, are you sure focus is on the information for the contact in
the contacts list? Use Alt with 1 to move focus into the list of contacts.
This should ensure focus is moved to the list and the favorites should be at
the top of the list so you can up arrow to the contact's name.
Yes, the focus is on the person's name in the favorites list. Just for your
information I use Zoomtext as I have some vision. I also use Jaws 18 latest
version.

2. Be sure the window is maximized by using CTRL with spacebar
followed by X.
Window is maximized.

3. Make sure screen echo is set to highlighted and not to All. Use
JAWS key with S until "highlighted" is announced.
Yes, it was set to echo.
4. Make sure the PC cursor is the active cursor by pressing the plus
key on the number pad if using a desktop or caps lock with semicolon if
using a laptop configuration.
Pc cursor is on.
5. Use Alt with V to bring up the view menu. Arrow down to the
"compact sidebar" menu item and if it is not checked then press enter key.
If it is checked just press Alt key to leave the menu.
I check this and it was not check but checked it and it did not make any
different except it change the view on the side and made it narrower.

6. Accessibility mode should be turned on in options. Use Alt with T
and then up arrow key to find the Options menu item. Press enter key. Move
to the last category in the list by pressing the end key. Tab to the
checkbox for using accessibility mode and make sure it is checked. If it is
not checked use spacebar to check the box. If you make changes to the
options then be sure to tab to the save button and use spacebar before
exiting options.
Accessibility mode was checked.

7. You can compile the JAWS scripts being used by pressing JAWS key
with 0, and when the script manager opens use CTRL with S. Exit the script
manager by using Alt with function key 4.
Not using any Jaws scrips. The announcing of whether the person is online
worked fine without Jaws scrips before.
8. It is probably best that you have the latest version of Skype
installed with JAWS 18.
I have the latest version of Skype and Jaws 18.

There are other troubleshooting steps that can be done but try these first
to see if JAWS starts announcing the status information for you.

Take care. I hope you get it working!

Hello Patti,

In the settings for notifications and actions the "Get notifications from

apps that might need to send you notifications should be listed. When you

Hi Jaws list, I thought you might want to join me and my W-10 and Jaws group
in some football fun.
. Just for the fun of it I have set up a private NFL pick'em group for all
of us called windows 10 NFL. The Group ID# is 47124, the password is jaws.
If you wish to play against me and whoever wants to join. Do the following.
My name on the NFL group is: dogpound55.

You have created the Private Group called Windows 10 NFL and the Pick Set
called dogpound55 in that group. To allow other people to join this group,
send them the Group ID# (47124) and the Password (jaws). Remember, it is the
Group ID#, not the group name, that other people must use to join your
group.
You are now ready to participate in Pro Football Pick'em. Your goal is to
earn more points than other people by selecting the winner of each of this
year's games. Now, you can even set up your group to keep picking through
the playoffs! Which I have done.
So go to yahoosports.com go to the fantasy page, find the NFL pick'em page,
find join a private group. Type in the group idea number above and the
password Jaws, pick a group user name, for example my name is: dogpound55.
Make your week one picks, choose your tiebreakers, press enter on the save
button. Let's have some fun! The site is totally accessible with Jaws.

Happy Saturday list.
Windows 7, JAWS 16, IE12.
I am experiencing an issue with the college blackboard platform that is
driving me crazy. When I enter to a certain formatted page to read
assignment directions, and then try to use the alt left arrow command to go
back a page, it does not work, and I am forced to exit blackboard entirely
and then go through the process of logging in and making my way back to the
class page.
I checked to see if there are tabs for previously viewed blackboard pages,
but there are none.
Is there any additional commands that can be used to try and go back a page?
I am using IE and am wondering if Blackboard and JAWS work better together
with Firefox.
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated.

You may believe it is perfect, I never expected iTunes to cook my
dinner, I can do that myself, even if I wish someone would do it for me
occasionally.

I'd like to see what I wish to see when I open the program instead of
having to tab through a ton of places that I will never use on the
computer, I listen to music using my iPhone and speakers, not the
computer. I do, however, wish to get most updates on the computer, and
I do wish to have backups in iCloud and on my computer, occasionally,
usually weekly at least and I did prefer to remove applications I was no
longer using the computer, which is now more convoluted than it was.
If it were not for the syncing capability and the backups, I'd probably
never connect the phone to a computer.
As to the search capability, it seems broken to me and any time I can
use a real keyboard to type something in I am more satisfied, I can use
the phone but I still prefer a keyboard with good key travel and size.
Stop treating me like a moron because I don't see things the same way
you do Please! We should be able to disagree without putting one
another down.

I have a phone can't get rid of it without dumping my internet, and I have a
cell phone, however, I dislike trying to get customer service to do
anything. I watch my cousin and her husband grab a phone call and spend
more than 30 minutes just getting directed to the correct person, I could do
a lot of things in that same period of time, read a book, clean, walk, write
20 or more e-mail, shop and buy on the internet. It absolutely annoys me to
listen to someone telling the same story to five different people listen to
that horrid stuff they call music and it isn't in my book, and then maybe
get your issue solved to your satisfaction. I avoid it whenever possible
and sit here tense and ready to toss anything at anything else when I must
do it. Due to a hearing problem, hard to listen to something else while
waiting. I feel like I am wasting time, even though I am now no longer
working, and can waste time, I dislike doing it on something I dislike so
much.
Friends may call me, I may talk for hours on the phone, not all that often,
but, I hate customer service phone calls. My time is as valuable as
theirs.

Sorry, this is definitely a hot button for me. I have had to make some of
these calls since my husband passed last year to change utilities to my name
... and I usually end up angry or depressed after I have had to sit for
hours and, some phone conversations have lasted more than an hour and a half
trying to accomplish something that should have taken no more than 15
minutes. People tell me it is the way it is, but it does not make me like
it.

If one has placed an order on the computer and is trying to return it on the
computer one should not have to use the phone. Some of us don't want to
spend time sitting on hold, slogging through menus and spend an hour doing
something they should be able to do in minutes. I happen to be one of those
persons, I hate sitting on hold, dislike the music and the advertisements,
hate being transferred multiple times to finally get the right person. I'd
love to have a person around who would do that kind of stuff for me, my late
husband did mainly over the last years because I was working. I am not now
but I want to just give up entirely after spending hours on such detritus.
I want to order from the computer, communicate and walk away for a while.
Given any choice at all I will use the computer over the phone for anything
dealing with supposed customer support. Cousin loves the phone, thinks she
gets something accomplished, I let her do it if at all possible and I spend
time in another room. Customer service is, in my humble opinion usually so
frustrating that I am tempted to have the phone taken out.
Nothing worse than waiting and waiting for the correct person to assist and
it happens all the time.
Point being made is every part of a purchase or return should be accessible
to everyone!

Absolutely. I also use Vipre 2014. Actually, I must say that using the
JAWS cursor alone is almost easier than in previous versions with the PC
cursor. One thing is that I am not interested in knowing what threats I am
deleting from my system. I just want all threats gone, bottom line. I deal
mostly with a region of the world that is today prone to be abnormally
dangerous when it comes to the Internet. I will continue to use SAS, free
version 6.0, and Vipre, until some problem arises. This works well for me,
but this is only my opinion, based on my computer skills and my computer.
Hope this helps.

you are. However, I do survive because of a lot of logic and common sense.

I quickly noticed that you are correct, SAS is not accessible like older
versions. However, I routed the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor. Then I found
different features that sounded what I needed to do.

   I left clicked on:

Complete Scan. It did its job over more than 200,000 files and all else. I
had 45 threats and was advised to quarantine those threats and delete them.

I found a quarantine button and left clicked on that. I was told that
all threats were then quarantined.

Next, I found a delete bottom, left clicked on it and before I knew I
found a done button and that was perfect for me. Left clicked on it and it
was a done deal.

To prove to myself that I actually did everything perfectly, I ran the
same scan again. Yes, not one threat remained this time.

I use SAS to supplement my Vipre Anti-Virus program. I do not use Malware
bytes, since I know that is way too complicated for me to use effectively.

I am impressed for two reasons, in particular:

1. My computer is now free of the threats it had yesterday.

2. This is entirely possible to accomplish only using the JAWS cursor.

Again, I am not the guru that most of you are, but if this can work for a
computer chimp, it certainly can work even better for you who understand
computer programs better than I.

Hope this helps someone!

I am trying to configure settings that took a couple of years to perfect.
There is a long list of options for Outlook 2010 which I cannot seem to
locate. David, you once posted the route to this list.

I use JAWS 14, Win. 7 and Outlook 2010. When I enter on a message in the In
Box, it stops reading after the subject field and I must manually start it
up again each time. I am trying to determine what needs to be checked to
get this system back to where it once was from factory defaults, shall we
say. All of my saved JAWS helpful information was lost.

Any suggestions and information is tremendously appreciated. Thank you in
advance.

Hi all,

I suspect I know the answer to this, and I can deal with a you'll have to
live with it, so hush now, and do so, but on the unlikely chance there may
be a way to do what I want, I'll ask. After all, you all are far more
knowledgeable than I, so let me explain.

Until I got this computer, which my computer guru pre-loaded for me (with
legally licensed software) I used Outlook express, and liked it. One of the
things I really liked was that I could go into a folder, start with the
first message, open and read it, hit delete, and the next message would
automatically open and JAWS would read it. This made clearing a folder easy
and relatively effort free.

I can't do that with my Outlook 2007. I have to open the message, let JAWS
read it, then close the message, delete the read message, go to the next
message and repeat. I know I could probably find OE again somewhere, but
there are features in Outlook I really do like, and, well, it's here, so I'm
willing to keep it, and if there is no way to set it to do what I described
above, I can live with that, too ... but is there a way?

Shoshana

I have not heard anything about it lately and don't know whether it is still

Thank you. unfortunately, that didn't change anything. I changed the dash,
colon, semi colon and left and right parentheses from none to some, and Jaws
still reads them all every time.

 Hi All,

 I just installed jaws 13, and I can't figure out why I can't limit
jaws speaking punctuation. I went to the settings center and in
customize punctuation, I set everything to none and saved the
changes. Still Jaws is reading every comma, bracket, dash, etc. and
driving me nuts with all the extra chatter. I have gone back into the
settings center, and all the types of punctuation are still set at
none. All the other changes I made in the settings center are working
fine. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

 Thank you,
 shari

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Removing Threats Super Anti-Spyware Finds

Good Afternoon:

I've never been able to determine what threats the Pro (paid) version of
Super anti-Spyware version 5.6.1014 finds except for looking at the scan log
and checking them to send them to quarantine has also defied me for years.
Has anyone been able to deal with found threats using JAWS on 64 bit Windows
7 Home Premium? JAWS 11 to 14 are installed here along with IE 9.

A full Microsoft Security Essentials and free version of Malware Bytes
scan came up clean, but a quick SAS scan claims to have found 2
critical ones. If possible, I'd like to find out how to deal with SAS
without requiring sighted assistance or a remote from my tech at least until
the company changes the program again.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you,

Margaret

Bob,

Ok, now that I did a little looking. It turns out the version of Dropbox
doesn't matter. New accounts created after some time in early October don't
get the public folder by default. Instead, you can share links.

If you want the public folder, though, do the following:
https://www.dropbox.com/enable_public_folder,
then click on the enable public folder button on the screen.

Next you need to verify your email address by clicking on Send email
button on the pop up, check your inbox and click on the verification link
sent by dropbox, your public folder is now enabled message will be shown
on your Dropbox account.

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid !

Win7, JFW14.

For some strange reason which I'm not asking to solve here, when I go to
'all programs' then Jaws 13 and open it there is no uninstall item to click.
In fact compared to my other Win7 PC, there are very few entries there on
this second Win7 laptop of mine. Jaws runs just fine though. Anyway, That is
not the problem I'm asking for advice on here.

My only choice seems to be uninstalling JFW13 using the run command. windows
key then type run in the search edit field and then type some command there
to uninstall JAWS13 only without effecting JAWS14.

How do I do this?

hello there;
if you have multiple accounts,
when you press ctrl+new=new message,
you then could press,
alt+a, this will provide you with a list,
so select which account, and continue with the message/send process.

each account will have it's own folders.

the one you are in, hit alt M and arrow through and hit enter on the one

 Hi.
I think Microsoft is going to put narrator on the tablets and phones.
You can't put jaws on the phone anyway.

I am runnin the most recent version of cdex and I am helping a friend to use
the same program as I. When I was introduced, a friend showed me how to
make sure that any cd I extracted, went directly into a music folder where I
could then move it to any location I wanted. Because he was so quick at the
computer, I am not able to take what he did and help my friend to do the
same thing. We have had difficulties locating the first cd she extracted.
Would anyone know where I can find what she extracted and furthermore, would
anyone know how to set it up where when she extracted a cd, that it would
extract to a folder she wanted it to go.

I switched most stuff over to my mac, because you don't have to set the op
different. VoiceOver will run no matter how you have the op configured.
Being built into the op lets it recover from speech crash just by turning
it off and back on. no rebooting!
Also here is the big plus. When the op is upgraded so is VoiceOver. So you
get op and screen reader for around $30 a lot cheaper for something that
works.

You can run Windows on a mac using VMWare or other programs like it and
thus

run Jaws on it. I think some people on these lists actually do that, so
maybe they can give you some input on how the process, performance, etc

No. The bad news is that there is no jaws for mac. The good news is
that any recent version of the mac operating system already comes
with the screenreader for mac tied into the operating system. This
native Mac Screenreader is Called Voiceover and has becomeq quite
good. Google for Voiceover and you should find plenty of
information for you and your colleague. Also, I am sure that there is
a voiceover email support group out there but I do not know
subscriptioninformation. Again I refer you to our friend Google.
