Re: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD

2013-06-21 Thread Steve
I don't know about your laptop, but on mine I was able to disable it by
going to the control panel, under devices, Mouse and Touchpad, I found a
choice to disable it. Then, wait until a sighted mouse-dependent person
wants to use your computer (grin).

I can't give you exact directions because I am not sure if Win 7 would have
the same layout as my Vista laptop, especially since I set up my Vista in
classic view.

Another alternative is to cut out a thin piece of cardboard and tape it over
the touchpad. You'd want to use something about the thickness of what they
use for sending stuff in mailers that they don't want to bend.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Dear List

I use JAWS 13 with windows 7 on a laptop but find the touch pad on the
laptop a nuisance as my left thumb tends to occationally touch it while
working changing the focus.

Is there perhaps a way of disabling the touch pad on a modern laptop?

Hi Derick,
On most, there is a keystroke for doing this, if you let us know what brand
you are using perhaps someone could help.
It is usually the F/N key in combination with one of the function keys, such

as:
F/N +F5
The keystroke is a toggle, so it works to enable or to disable.

Hi,

There is sometimes a function that will do this, for example, f6 on my
Packard-Bell.
If someone is able to help you, you may be able to tell by the symbols on the
function key strip.
You could also Google the model number and see if there is anything available
there.
Failing this, you could disable the touchpad in the device manager.

Hi Derick,
On most, there is a keystroke for doing this, if you let us know what brand
you are using perhaps someone could help.
It is usually the F/N key in combination with one of the function keys, such

as:
F/N +F5
The keystroke is a toggle, so it works to enable or to disable.

Sorry but I did not know you expected verbal feedback which in this case is
not forthcoming with any screen reader other than the announcement you hit
the keystroke. Had that crossed my mind I certainly would have mentioned
that fact.

I think it may be either the F8 key on its own or the FN Key +F8. It's a
toggle. I don't have it now, but the lenovo model i had access to didn't
have an easy way to disable it completely, so you had to disable it per
session.

 Hi Jim

Thank you for the response. I have a Lenovo I5 laptop and have sent
that information to Ric and Tim who will most probably come up with a
solution for this make of laptop.

 Hi Derick:

On my notebook the keystroke is f-n+f9.
 All laptops are probably different.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD

 Dear List

I use JAWS 13 with windows 7 on a laptop but find the touch pad on the
laptop a nuisance as my left thumb tends to occationally touch it
 while working changing the focus.

HTH,

You can find it in control panel, touch pad or start menu search for touch pad.
