Re: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD
I don't know about your laptop, but on mine I was able to disable it by going to the control panel, under devices, Mouse and Touchpad, I found a choice to disable it. Then, wait until a sighted mouse-dependent person wants to use your computer (grin). I can't give you exact directions because I am not sure if Win 7 would have the same layout as my Vista laptop, especially since I set up my Vista in classic view. Another alternative is to cut out a thin piece of cardboard and tape it over the touchpad. You'd want to use something about the thickness of what they use for sending stuff in mailers that they don't want to bend. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Re: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD
Hi, There is sometimes a function that will do this, for example, f6 on my Packard-Bell. If someone is able to help you, you may be able to tell by the symbols on the function key strip. You could also Google the model number and see if there is anything available there. Failing this, you could disable the touchpad in the device manager. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of DERICK GREEFF Sent: 19 June 2013 11:27 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD Dear List I use JAWS 13 with windows 7 on a laptop but find the touch pad on the laptop a nuisance as my left thumb tends to occationally touch it while working changing the focus. Re: [JAWS-Users] DISABLING THE LAPTOP TOUCH PAD
According to the documentation on my system FN f8 toggles the touch pad. I notice from your original message that does not work, it does on mine although you need to do it every time the system boots up. I got mine in December of 2009 if that helps you at all. Sorry but I did not know you expected verbal feedback which in this case is not forthcoming with any screen reader other than the announcement you hit the keystroke. Had that crossed my mind I certainly would have mentioned that fact. Never the less it is working for you the way you wish and that's what matters in the final wash so to speak.
