Re: [JAWS-Users] Dectalk Synthesizer problem

2018-06-29 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Which Dectalk synthesizer are you using? The original Dectalk synthesizers
were made by the company Digital Equipment Corporation, which no longer
exists. The JAWS 2018 Synthesizer and Braille manager supports the external
Dectalk Express synthesizer and the internal Dectalk Access32 software
synthesizer which were made by Digital Equipment Corporation and the Dectalk
USB 64 synthesizer made by someone else.

I am successfully using a Dectalk Express external synthesizer which I got
sometime in the mid-1990s. It did get put in storage for a couple of years,
while I used the Dectalk Access32 Software synthesizer until I upgraded to
Windows 7, which would no longer support that synthesizer. But when I
plugged the Dectalk Express into the Windows 7 using a Serial to USB
adaptor, nothing happened. It was found that since the Dectalk Express was
getting old, the battery needed to be removed and the Dectalk Express needed
to be plugged into electrical power. When that was done, the Dectalk
Express has worked since then.

Hello,
What issue are you having with the DecTalk external synthesizer and JAWS? I
am using a DecTalk external synthesizer and I am not having any issue with
it. The machine is using Windows10 1803 and the latest version of JAWS 2018.
Do you have a braille display by chance? I noticed that sometimes the
comport for the USB serial port and Bluetooth get conflicted which makes the
DecTalk express not work. If this occurs, removing the Bluetooth device from
that comport if it's already on another port in ports and devices in device
manager and restarting the computer resolves it for me.

[JAWS-Users] DecTalk Synthesizer Problem

2018-06-28 Thread Steve

BlankTalk of different synthesizers brought to mind a problem I've had for
quite some time.

A few years ago, something -- either a new Jaws update, or an update to the
Microsoft Visual C-plus-plus broke the external Dectalk's synthesizer
interface.

I vaguely recall something about this on possibly another list.

Has anybody encountered this issue and is there a solution?

On a related note, about three years ago, Jaws did an update which seems to

with an update to Microsoft's Netframework.

Has anybodey been able to get the Dectalk to work with newer versions of Jaws?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Dectalk Express was asking a few questions.

2016-03-19 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Since you are using a Serial to USB adaptor, it created Com3 when it was first
plugged in. Com1 was the default for a physical Serial port, which you don't
find on today's machines. If you open Device Manager and goto Ports (Com &
LPT), you will see that there is no Com1 for your computer. So you have to use
Com3 or whatever the adapter created.

I haven't noticed the difference in what was said when you delete a character,
so can't advise anything.

The Dectalk Express only supports English, so does not show anything in the
Language choice. English is what you got.

Hi to all, from Ron Kolesar.
I’m currently using the latest version of jaws, which also encludes the patch
that came down the other day as well.
I purchased a USB to nine pen adaptor so that I may be able to use my dec-talk
express once again.
I see that my dec-talk is plugged into com port 3, how can I change this to be
plugged into com port one?
Also, not sure why this is happening, but noticed it after using the dt
express.
When I press the deleete key on the calculator keypad to delete a letter some
time it will just say delete and other times it spells the word delete and
still kills the letter.
Would anyone know why this is.
Also, one last item.
I’ve tried I think it’s a alt l or is it a ctrl l for language.
I’ve tried to type in english, but it will not expcept it.
So for synthesizer language it is set to none.
Do we need a language?
Because it is working fine without a language set.
Just some thought and I’m enjoying dec-talk express on a win 10 machine.
Thanks for all of the help.

Dear Mr. Jerry,

I do not know if that particular configuration does work but jaws
for several years and versions has come with a driver for the dectalk usb.

2011-12-14 Thread Brandon Misch
yeah try to use eloquence as default and just change it to DECtalk usb after
starting jaws. less issues that way. works great that way.

On Dec 14, 2011, at 6:29 PM, Arianna wrote:

I had a very weird experience with the DecTalk USB as the default profile.
All of a sudden, out of the blue, the voice came from my speakers as high

DecTalk to function, so I uninstalled JAWS 11 totally and then reinstalled it.

I had DecTalk working beautifully and guess what? The voice did the same
thing, coming through my speakers as rapidly and as high pitched as possible.

Now I have removed the DecTalk and am using SAPI DecTalk, so I'll see how
things go from here. I like the external synthesizer because I do not like
JAWS coming from the same speakers music or movies come from.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? If so, were you able to get
DecTalk USB to function without this nonsense happening?

Re: [JAWS-Users] DecTalk Express question

2008-03-21 Thread Dale Leavens
It can,

For a time I did have mine running that way but some how after ai had to do
a Jaws repair I didn't get it working again. I have a low tolerance though
for mucking about with these darn machines when they don't perform in
expected ways.

I found it particularly useful when on For-the-people to have the Jaws

the speakers on the site so separating the two is nice.

Re: [JAWS-Users] DecTalk access 32 with Jaws

2007-12-22 Thread AMTK161
I am reasonably sure that GW Micro is the official distributer of Access32
now. Try going to www.gwmicro.com and looking around there.

I don't know about buying Access32. However, I am using the same
Acccess32
software I bought when it first came out over ten years ago. I am using
 JFW
 9 with my Access32.
