[JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
Hi listers, I'm using a laptop with Vista and Jaws 12, the initial release. I've recently encountered a problem that may not be a focus issue at all, but I don't know what else to call it. When I route the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor and do a left mouse click, I get tossed out of my location and put, usually, back on the desk top. So, I have no way to do the left mouse click which is a partifcular problem because I need to pay my property taxes, and the site has some controls that don't respond to regular Jaws commands. I'm guessing that I changed something to cause this, but I sure don't know what that would be. One other piece of info is that when I'm in my windows mail inbox, the jaws and page down keys used to tell me how many messages were in the list. Now Jaws just says ind... Any ideas? Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
You may have set the JAWS Cursor to follow the PC cursor. To change that, so that you get the default, JAWS Cursor not to follow, pres ctrl+insert+NumpadMinus twice quickly. press this again if it is not toggled the first time. . - Original Message - From: Shari shariw...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 3:37 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem Hi listers, I'm using a laptop with Vista and Jaws 12, the initial release. Thank you, Flor, You solved the left mouse click problem. Here's a curious hing though. I had both IE and Firefox open. For no particular reason, I went to IE to try to pay the tax bill. I followed your suggestion, but IE threw me into Firefox. I then tried to pay the tax bilkl through FF, and it worked perfectly. [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem with GoldWave
Is there a way to prevent Jaws v12 from loosing focus when navigating out a loaded file in GoldWave? What happens is if I alt tab away from the file to check email and then return to the GoldWave file, GoldWave shows the control panel and not back to the open file. This is troublesome because I can no longer use arrow keys to move through the file. I have to close and reopen the file and use arrow keys to locate where I left off. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
that is only an apparent problem, because you altered the cursors in mid-quest. It is confusing, like many other things to do with JAWS settings; but the way to resolve it is to set and forget the cursors so that JAWS Cursor WILL NOT FOLOW the PC Cursor, and leave well enough alone until and unless by changing you know what you are doing. (It can happen accidentally, and is very off-putting. That's how I know about it.) - Original Message - From: Shari shariw...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 8:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem Thank you, Flor, You solved the left mouse click problem. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
So as to attempt to get a better understanding of such matter, you might want to look into the JAWSKey+r dialogue of types of cursor restriction settings. JAWS works so well in most programs that hardly any alterations are needed for normal oparations; at least I believe so. - Original Message - From: Shari shariw...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 10:10 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem Yes, I never intentionally made the change, although obviously I did make it. The smaller the numbers, the less sensitive the touch pad. Tab again and it should say something like Heavy Touch. Tab again and press Enter on Okay, and your touch pad will be much less likely to pick up on you lightly touching it by mistake, or sense your wrist moving over the top of it. [JAWS-Users] focus issue wwhen in Move command.
Hi Having this more often then not. I am using jaws 11 but it happened in 10 also, using xp home. I select a file to move into a folder on my e drive and Jaws will show all the folders in my 2nd drive as it should. The next time I go and do a Move my e drive says 1 folder and that's the last folder I did a move to. I can shut down my computer and try it again and it still says 1 folder. think the only way I get around this is to go to my external drive and do a move and when I go back to the e drive and do a move it shows all the folders again( I say think because I only have my external drive for a week.). A sighted person said that using right mouse click opens the preview pane but I have not had any success. Maybe I am using the wrong key commands? What is the command for Right mouse ? thanks for any help. regards Scott For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Gena, Some laptops don't have the button like the HP/Compaqs do. So, you need to go into the control panel to do it. Windows 7 also has the option, under hardware in the control panel as I recall. - Original Message - From: wild.flower wild.flo...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, July 23, 2010 11:04 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue Josh, I don't know if there is a way to turn the touch pad off in settings but, there should be a very small button at the center top edge of the touch pad that will turn it off until or unless you push that little button again. Josh, When I have my button pushed so that the touch pad is turned off, the left and right mouse buttons are also disabled. I don't know if there would be a separate setting for the left and right mouse buttons in the same area that you found the setting for the touch pad or not. All I know is that when I have the external button turn off the touch pad, it turns everything concerning the mouse off. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
Jewel: Yes, you would probably need to enable the touch pad for a sighted person, but it's pretty easy to do that. Simply go to Mouse properties, Device Settings, and press the Enable button. When the sighted person is finished using your laptop, simply disable it again. I haven't disabled mine, though. I set the sensitivity very low so it takes a pretty heavy touch to move the mouse pointer. So far, this has kept me from accidentally triggering the mouse pointer and unintentionally changing the focus. I'm fairly certain that the touch pad is not responsible for the issue of changing focus in a text document because it never happens at any other time. When the sensitivity is set too high, my laptop would switch from my email inbox to my desktop, for example, and I would have to alt tab back to my inbox. This never happens now that I have it set to low sensitivity, yet the cursor sometimes jumps around when I'm typing text. Hmmm. [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
Sometimes when I'm writing an email, or writing in MS Word, the cursor will jump and all of a sudden I'm typing in the middle of the previous sentence or the previous paragraph. And I never know the cursor has moved until I review my text and find it all mixed up. It doesn't happen too often, but I can never figure out what makes the cursor jump like that. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, is there any way to keep it from happening? Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
I have had this happen to me off and on with the past few versions of JAWS. For me it is not a JAWS issue. I use a laptop and there is a touch pad for visual users to use to move the mouse around. There is also a small button just above that touch pad that turns this touch pad on and off. If I do not have the mouse touch pad turned off and I accidentally touch the pad while typing, browsing or anything else the cursor will jump focus and screw me all up and put me in a place I don't want to be. I found that as long as I keep the mouse touch pad turned off, I never have any problems keeping focus where I want it and everything works fine. I hope this helps. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
Yes, the touch pad can definitely make the focus jump around. I have mine set to low sensitivity for that reason. The problem doesn't happen too often, but once in a while it does and it seems to happen for no apparent reason. A friend of mine also complained of it happening on her desktop computer. Hmmm. . . maybe it's just one of those things we have to live with for now. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
Speaking of the mouse pad on laptops is there a way to turn this feature off in settings? If I can turn it off then I can see if maybe I am the cause of Jaws jumping around. - Original Message - From: wild.flower wild.flo...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2010 8:40 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue I have had this happen to me off and on with the past few versions of JAWS. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
I wish the mouse pad were the cause of my problem, but since not only am I using a desk top computer, but the problem only appeared in the last few weeks after I updated version eleven I do believe that there are other factors contributing to the issue for some or many of us. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue
Deanne! Does your keyboard have a little wheel just to the left of the, in my opinion, useless grave key next to the figure one? Even the tiniest misplaced touch of this scroll wheel will cause your cursor to jump all over the place. It is an absolute pain in the backside! [JAWS-Users] Focus issue with IE favorites
Does anyone else experience a one-keystroke lag on the focus while adding a favorite to IE7? I am able to determine the actual focus by using the SayLine command, but using first letter navigation, the current version of Jaws reports the wrong folder when selecting where to add the new favorite. Do you suppose FS has heard about this problem a gajillion times already, or is it worth reporting?
