[JAWS-Users] Form fields disappeared

2012-04-03 Thread Deanne Miller
Hi everyone:
I was helping a friend update his antivirus on his laptop and discovered that,
on many web sites, Jaws is not saying the edit field. On Google.com, for
example, if I press the letter E, it will go to the place where the search
field should be. Instead of saying "search edit," though, it simply says blank.
The search area sounds like this: search, blank, blank, search button. Pressing
spacebar or enter does nothing. I have tried it with other web sites and it
seems to work with some, like gmail and freedomscientific, but not others, like
amazon or Yahoo, where it does the exact same thing I just described about
Google.
He has a Toshiba laptop, Windows home premium, and Jaws 9, latest version. I
ran two repairs on jaws, and then I completely removed and did a clean install
of Jaws, all to no avail. I have never experienced anything like this before.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What version of Windows Home Premium, there are 2 versions of Home premium,
Vista and 7, can you provide more information on the operating system your
actually using, saying Windows Home Premium doesn't help us determen the
version of Windows.

Thanks,

Hi Deanne,

If he is running Vista 32 Bit Jaws9 will work but, if he's running Vista 64
bit or any Windows7 operating system, whether it is 32 or 64 bit, he needs a
minimum of Jaws10, to my understanding ! If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone
will correct me. Hope this helped. Take care.
Mike

Hello,

It has been my experience that JAWS 9 does not work well with Internet
Explorer 9. If you have the option, you can roll back to IE 8. Otherwise,
you will need to install JAWS 10 or higher.
