Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
This may or may not be related to issues with online banking sites that people have mentioned, but I'll mention it here anyway just to muddy up the waters. A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly could not log into a critical web site here at work. I had just received a bunch of Microsoft updates the previous night. I restored my system to just before the updates were installed, and I suddenly could again log into that critical site. I started adding updates back, one at a time, and testing my ability to log into that site. I eventually found the culprit, Update KB2661254 Minimum key length for certificates. This update altered the behavior of Internet Explorer on web sites that used a certificate with a key length of less than 1024 bits. Essentially, it won't work. I had to uninstall KB2661254 and all is happy now. This update did not effect the way that FireFox interacted with these web sites. This is definitely not Al's problem as he said that when his wife clicked on the link, it worked. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Senior Oracle Database Administrator Carnegie Mellon University. Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
Dan and others, I appreciate everyone's suggestions etc. This is some new glitch Dan has stumbled on and sounds very complicated. More info on my particular situation and it is not good in my opinion. I had Terrie sit down with me to look at this site again. The way I think the page is laid out the way JAWS reads it is way off. After I log in to my CU site I arrow down and JAWS says there is a list of 6 items. If I continue arrowing down it says bullet then announces the link name. It does this for each of the 6 items. I am thinking this is a vertical list with each link preceded by a bullet. JAWS also says mouse over which always bothers me as I know it gets more complicated. Anyway, Terrie describes something totally different. She says these six elements resemble more of a ribbon type setup. It is in fact a horizontal line across the top of the screen. She says there are no bullets and they do not appear has hyperlinks. What confuses me is if I bring up the links list with JAWS key and F7 they are listed and if I tab to go to link it will take me right to it. Anyway, getting back to what they look like as she takes the mouse and hovers over each of the six elements a drop down type box appears with subsequent choices for each item. It is this choices that need to be clicked on with the mouse. None of these choices are available or visible until you hover the mouse over them. Seems I remember something a long time ago about a JAWS command to go to another place when JAWS announces mouse over. Anyway if I route JAWS to PC cursor and then arrow down I occasionally can hear a couple of the choices and if lucky using the num pad key command for mouse activation I can get to another screen but not with any type consistency So, with this additional info any suggestions? After I log in to my CU site I arrow down and JAWS says there is a list of 6 items. If I continue arrowing down it says bullet then announces the link name. It does this for each of the 6 items. I am thinking this is a vertical list with each link preceded by a bullet. JAWS also says mouse over which always bothers me as I know it gets more complicated. Al, Try moving to the link concerned, where JAWS says Mouseover. Hold down CTRL and JAWS Key and press the Enter key. You should hear JAWS say Change at line XX, where XX is a number. Now, using Quick Navigation, press the letter J. JAWS will say Jump to line. Type in the number, from XX above and press Enter again. A list of items should now appear and you can arrow up or down, to select the one you need. The CTRL + JAWS Key + Enter simulates hovering over the item with the mouse. Hope someone can give me some suggestions and quick. My credit union just redid their website. Until now the site has been fully accessible with JAWS. Not sure what they did but some links on the site now work and some don't with JAWS. If JAWS says link I have always just hit enter to access it and go their. Several links on that site now do not work that way. I know the link is active as my wife can click on it with the mouse and it is fine. What I don't understand is why JAWS works well with some links on that page and simply ignores others. I have tried using the links list and simply arrowing down the page and clicking on them. I tried the JAWS key and z to no avail. Any other suggestions how I can get jaws to activate those links. Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
What usually works for me is hit the applications key and go down to open, then click enter. If that doesn't work, I try opening it in a new window to see if it works. If the open options do not work for that particular link, then I don't know what to tell you. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Alan Robbins Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 4:15 PM To: Jaws-Users-List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site Hope someone can give me some suggestions and quick. Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
Hello, I recently had some issues with my CU as well. I hadn't installed anything or changed anything, but suddenly after Oct. 22 the web page wouldn't show all the links on the page. I went to the help section for my CU recommended settings, it gave a list of supported browsers and Operating Systems, as well as resolution settings. I entered on the check my computer setting to see if it matched up with their recommended settings, something was amiss re the resolution settings. But when I reverted back to the 1024 x 728 or whatever that is, nothing changed. I must have had a window's update from last time AI had been able to log into my bank, so I did a system's restore back to the date of last time all was working right, that did the trick. I have noticed at my credit union's site, they offer a setting for screen readers to turn some features off. I haven't had to do that though. Also, another issue I was having long before this time was, the forms mode was on and that was really sending the links and edit box's off the radar. So maybe if yours is on try turning it off and see if that improves things for you, or do a system's restore. I am using still Jaws 13 on a ASUS laptop running window's 7 home premium if this helps you any.. Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
Al, In reading your problem, I have one link on my credit union bank site that Jaw's doesn't say link, but I know it's there. I just press my enter key and it does open the page, but it always puts me down at the bottom and I have to up arrow to get to my desired info. I use IE 9 forgot to mention that before. Sure hope your CU is more friendlier than mine or have a better understanding of their online banking features. I'm just this short of switiching to BOA it's site seems to be pretty rock steady, lol - Original Message - From: Trish pzoell...@tx.rr.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 9:26 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site Hello, I recently had some issues with my CU as well. Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site
If you have the links list up, then when you get to the link, tab over and listen for the option move to link. Hit enter. Then, rout jaws to the virtual cursor, and double click with the left mouse button. If you encounter the link whithout the links list, in other words, through using the arrows and tab keys, then routt jaws to virtual cursor, and hit enter. In order to rout jaws to the virtual cursor, press insert minus on the numpad. The Minus is also refered to as jaws cursor, and it is located on the top right of the numpad. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Alan Robbins Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 8:14 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site Bob, Thanks, don't see any of those options with the application key, thanks anyway /Al -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of bob cavanaugh Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 7:37 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with links on bank site What usually works for me is hit the applications key and go down to open, then click enter.
