Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS not reading status line

2008-05-27 Thread David Griffith
Have you checked that you still have status bar set to view in Microsoft
Word?
You can check this by going to Tools, Options and tab around the View tab
until you come to status bar. This should be checked.

The fact you are getting the start menu read out is peculiar for this key
combination.
Personally I would, after checking that the status bar is actually on , view
move onto next checking this out by using another screen reader like NVDA to
make sure that this is not a Windows key mapping error. If this key
combination continues to open the start menu in NVDA then this is not a Jaws
but a Windows issue.

If this does not happen then suspicion does fall on Jaws.
You could run jaws in default mode to see if this problem
continues.
I believe you copy the following line

jawsX /defaultĀ

And then exit jaws.
Press start then R and then paste in the command to run jaws in default
mode. Replace X with the version of Jaws that you have before copying to
clipboard. The space between Jaws and backslash is important.
If this works you should backup your jaws settings and save this as your
default configuration and start to add in dictionary files etc from your
backup.

If this does not work it is probably time to get onto Tech Support.

Regards

David Griffith

Hi,

The term status line just means the bottom line of the screen that offen
contains status info. Try maximizing your program.

 Hello,

 I used to be able to read the status line with insert-pagedown;
recently however and for reasons I cannot figure out, the
insert-pagedown combination reads the start menu. when I press the key
 combination now I hear:
start JAWS inbox file-name filename filename 9:37 p.m.

How can I fix this to get Jaws to work properly as before? I am using

Hi Alex, David and all who coached me on this,

the problem is finally solved. I found the status bar option in the view tab
under options in the tools menu; it was unchecked for some reason; once
checked, JAWS started behaving as it should.
Many thanks for everyone's help

Hi, try maximizing the current window with alt space, x. This is in fact
normal behaviour, and may be attributed to the fact that the taskbar is

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS not reading status line

2008-05-22 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, try maximizing the current window with alt space, x. This is in fact
normal behaviour, and may be attributed to the fact that the taskbar is
always on top, which is the default setting. Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS not reading status line

 Hello,

I used to be able to read the status line with insert-pagedown; recently
however and for reasons I cannot figure out, the insert-pagedown
 combination
reads the start menu. when I press the key combination now I hear:
start JAWS inbox file-name filename filename 9:37 p.m.
(filename refers to the names of currently open files.

How can I fix this to get Jaws to work properly as before? I am using JAWS
 8
with windows XP and Office 2000.

 Thanks,
 Samira
