[JAWS-Users] JAWS Repair
Morning all. I know that this subject has been posted here previously, but please forgive my memory lapses. Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, can anyone supply me with the instructions for doing a JAWS repair? Also, using Word 13, is there a way to create an editable form? Thanks in advance. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair
I figured out the answer. Because I have a hard time computing numbers when spoken by JAWS, I'd changed the filename to include the month and year. I didn't change the file extension, but I'd been led to believe that changing a filename while keeping the extension intact made no difference. Well, it does. I re-downloaded the file from the VFO website and went through the same VFO-recommended procedure without a hitch. Thanks to Steve and Dan for your thoughts. I'll try Dan's method the next time. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List <jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com> On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Friday, May 18, 2018 2:35 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair Hi. Last year VFO gave me a new set of instructions for doing a JAWS repair. They worked well, and I posted a version to the list. today they aren't working. When I put the terms into the run dialog and press enter, I get the MS message that Windows doesn't know which program to use. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong? Here are the instructions: First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build you're running. You can download it from the FS/VFO website. Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system. Close all running apps. Highlight the JAWS .exe file. Press shift-F10. Arrow up to "Copy as path." Press enter. Open the run dialog with Windows key-r. Press control-v, then spacebar, then / (the forward slash key), then the word "type", spacebar, and then the word "repair." Let me try that command line a different way. After pressing control-v followed by the spacebar, continue with /type repair Then press enter. Actually if you have the executable, you can just enter on it and you'll be asked if you want to repair. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair error message
Sadam, Two or three years ago, I ran into a similar problem trying to perform a JAWS repair. The error message was about some other part of the process, but it had the same effect. FS/VFO was also unable to fix it. Yet it went away in time. Not much help, I know, but I mention it for what it's worth. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List <jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com> On Behalf Of Sadam Ahmed Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2018 6:28 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair error message Adrian, I have tried running the repair quite a number of times with the same result. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws repair?
Kliphton, Blank Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current version using browse. I included two different methods. The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support. 1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair into the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running Jaws14 most recent on a 32-bit system, you would paste a copy of J14.0.4004-32bit.exe into the main root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go to the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C, and now you have the main root of the C drive open. 2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the Jaws .exe, and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive. What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into the Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the Jaws executible into the Run box without copying as you did as per the instructions above you would have pasted the whole file into the Run Box instead of just the title. 3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press Windows key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. Type, remember to type a capitalC , C:\ without the quotes or spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws title, press your end key to take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following without the quotation marks /type repair without the quotes but, with the spaces . Below is what your line of text should look / read like. C:\J14.0.4004-32bit.exe /type repair Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper spaces, Forward back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the front of the title and press enter to start the repair. A 2nd way to do the same thing. 1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box. 2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar. 3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key. 4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press the end key and then press spacebar. 5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately by the word type then a space and then the word repair. 6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key. 7. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair
The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support. 1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair into the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running Jaws11 most recent you would paste a copy of J11.0.1430-32bit.exe into the main root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go to the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C, and now you have the main root of the C drive open. 2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the .exe , and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive. A 2nd way to do the same thing. From: Brian Lee Hello Jim, You might have already resolved the problem, but if not here is a link that you can use to download the newest update for your 64-bit installation of JAWS. Information about performing the repair is shown below after the download link. ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J11.0.1430-64 bit.exe After downloading the file you can do the following steps to repair the installation: 1. Floor, Rick Justice, Mike, Ch.B (whatever the name was, sorry) Jaws is no longer doing this. I don't know what I did but maybe the two hour conversation with Mike might've done something. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws repair
Hi Kimsan, I owe you a huge apology. Last night when we were discussing repairing Jaws11, I should have been suggesting that you unload Jaws11 instead of saying uninstall Jaws11! I totally brain faarted on the terminology and again, I am very sorry. I really don't know if using the correct terminology would have made a difference being that same problem existed with Jaws10 as far as the system tray issue. I am very glad that you were able to get it straightened out. Also, I will send you those notes on making message rules. Take care. [JAWS-Users] jaws repair
Hi, Since nobody can't answer my question that I posted twice I was wondering how do I perform a jaws repair with jaws 11? Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws repair
Hi Kimsan, Do you have another version of Jaws that you can run instead of Jaws 11? What I mean is Close Jaws 11 and open Jaws 10 for example, then run the Jaws11 repair. I know that a Jaws11 repair can be done in XP because I did it this morning with Jaws 10 running but, not having knowledge of other operating systems I can't comment. Also, running a repair or another install on the same machine will not count as another installation. Take care. Hi Kimsan, Yes, uninstall Jaws11 and run Jaws10. If you have restarted your computer, the computer probably restarted running Jaws11. Once you are sure that Jaws10 is running, then try doing the repair on Jaws11. - Original Message - From: Kimsan Song To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, January 02, 2010 7:46 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws repair Ok can I call ya, this is racking my brain. Hi Kimsan, If you un-installed, then re-installed,Jaws, there will be no repair option, because you were doing a fresh install. I can't really advise you if you are running Windows 7 64 bit, you should contact Freedom Scientific for help. I am running Windows 7 32 bit, and Jaws 11 isn't working well on it either.
