[JAWS-Users] Jaws and conversations

2018-03-10 Thread Teresa Arroyo Llosa
Hello all,

Windows 8.1 Jaws 16.

I am starting a niew job were I have to talk with others though skype or other
means. My questions is, while I am having a conversation using a headset, what
can I do so that the other person doesn’t listen to jaws< only myself. Can this
be done?

I am starting work next monday.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Teresa Arroyo Llosa

First, good luck, particularly now since the newer versions of Skype aren't
as accessible.

To answer your question, you will probably need to run Jaws on a separate
soundcard or USB soundcard and Skype off the other soundcard, using
headphones with a splitter cable so you can put one channel on Skype and the
other channel on the Jaws screen-reader.

Hi Teresa,

Plantronics used to make a dual channel headset that you would hear Jaws
through one ear, & the person you're talking to from the other ear. You can
call this place, Headset Direct at this phone#: 1-800-914-7996. Or check
out their website here:

https://www.headsetsdirect.com/

Or,

https://www.headsetsdirect.com/hw261n-dc-supraplus-dual-channel.html

I would talk to them, and explain to them exactly what you need, to insure
you're purchasing the correct headset.

In the interim before you are able to get the new headset or have your
I.T section division  reconfigure whatever needs to be done perhaps if
all you're doing is talking back-and-forth couldn't you silence jaws
with the keystroke insert spacebar S? Just a thought.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and conversations

2018-03-10 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Teresa,

Congratulations for your new job.
If your only concern is other people listening your JAWS via Skype or other
VoIP programs, nobody via these programs will hear your JAWS if you are hearing
it from the headsets.
If your particular headsets are recognized in Windows as another sound cards
which is not set as the default one, you can send JAWS output to the headsets
by going to the JAWS menu or window (INSERT+J), Utilities, Sound Cards and
there selecting the item corresponding to the headsets.

Hope it helps!
