[JAWS-Users] Message rules question

2008-04-18 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi All,

I have filled out my message rules just like the Audio Tutorial and the
instructions on the Tips and Tricks Page say to do for both JAWS-Users and
Blind-Computing. I have been case sensitive exactly the way they read on
the subject line even trying with and without the brackets. Could someone
please tell me if I'm missing or doing something wrong? Both of these lists
are still going into the In Box instead of the designated folders. Do I
need to turn something on or off in Tools/Options? You all showed me how to
delete the snot out of message rules now I'm hoping you all can tell me what
i'm doing wrong or why they are not working correctly. I'm running 2002 XP
Home, 2002 Office Home, and Jaws 9. All advice will be greatly and deeply
appreciated.

Sincerely,

Damn Frustrated

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message rules question

2008-04-18 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi RJ,
I have tried it with both brackets. In your example you typed [jaws-users].
On the subject line it reads [JAWS-Users]. In reading the subject line 1
letter at a time all the letters in Jaws and the U in Users are capitalized
so that is the way I put it in the choice you spoke of in the message rule.
Are these entries case sensitive? Thanks for your input.

Mike

Something to keep in mind when it comes to message rules in OE. Even
though Jaws might read the subject line like a sentence from left to
right, they are actually headings to columns.
For this group, I went into the message rules and in the first section,
you have 12 choices. I chose the 3rd one down. "Where the message body
contains specific words." Then when you have to fill in that field, I
just put,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message rules question

2008-04-18 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Jack,

I think the best bet for message rules is the subject line. I don't think
your method is full proof.

Consider that if a person belongs to a large number of lists, and,
invariably, you will get talk on another list about another list, and
suddenly you find that other list's messages in the other list's folder, and
you lose track unless you're listening to the subject line.

Another example I can give you, is that the Blind Computing list makes
reference to the Jaws Users list in the footer, so what's to stop those
messages from going into my Jaws users folder?

You would literally have to be very attentive to the subject lines each and
every message.

I can cite more examples, but I think you get the idea.

In variably, most, if not all e-mail lists, will have the name of the list,
or some derivative in the subject line, so I think that would be your best
bet, as talk of another list in the subject line is very rare indeed.

I believe the 'best bet' is, usually, Where the To: or CC: Line contains.
(you can also make a rule (I've made one called BCC) for those multi-posted
messages to go into a certain designated folder, which you could call your
spam folder. (This is No. 6 of the 12 actions.)

Hi, have you made sure the rule is checked in message rules/mail in the
tools menu? Also try selecting the rule and clickint apply now.

2008-04-20 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Derek,

I was missing a step. After tabbing to add and pressing enter, I did not
arrow down to what I wanted said in the subject line before pressing okay.
Thank you for the suggestions.

Hi, have you made sure the rule is checked in message rules/mail in the
tools menu? Also try selecting the rule and clickint apply now.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message rules question

2008-04-20 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

I guess it's just an update day.

Did AVG want to update or upgrade? Mine updates daily, but it hasn't asked me
to upgrade, and I don't think it will until we purchase a new license. I'm sure
we could if we wanted too though. I've just got a Firefox upgrade a few days
ago.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message rules question

2008-04-20 Thread Derek Roberts
It wanted to upgrade, had a weird way of presenting it though! I was
extracting a zip file and found a dialog in my taskbar, AVG free
notification or something, saying please press enter key twice to close this
dialog. I did and Firefox gave me a page saying how my free 7.5 only had
antivirus, get the new 8.0 internet security bla bla bla. lol. I ain't been
on my pc in a week.
