Re: [JAWS-Users] OmniPage Pro 16

2007-10-22 Thread Alan & Terrie Robbins
Steve

Thanks, hopefully someone else on the list has it and can try? I sent mine
back for a refund. I'm not sure if the Word thing will correct my issue.
Mainly my issue was after scanning any type document OmniPage would not read
it within its own program without using JAWS cursor or changing things in
the pull down menus (and even that was only good for that scan not future
ones)

thanks
Al

Al,

I've heard there is a bug in OmniPage (version 16) which prevents
Acquire Text working from Word, and I wonder if this is the cause of
your "biggest complaint". There is a patch for the bug on the Nuance
website at
http://knowledgebase.nuance.com/view.asp?tnID=7085&sQuery=direct%20OCR
Apparently the problem goes away once this patch has been installed.

Folks,

I have no problem keeping this topic on list. I did not think there was
any
interest because in my previous two posts about the program before I
purchased and returned it no one responded to my posts. If discussions
are
helpful to the group here then by all means I think it should stay too.
Here are my initial reactions to the updated version (16):

Some of the install screens, especially the custom option, are tough but
doable (have to use the JAWS cursor some)
All of the topics under the help pull down (with exception of the
"about"
choice will not read with any of the cursors . They must be graphics
base
or something.
My biggest complaint is in previous versions once a document was scanned
the
OCR proofreading screen came up. You could then simply hit escape or
use it
to correct issues. Once this was done the scanned document was on the
screen and JAWS would read it just like a Word document with all
standard
reading keys. In version 16 this does not work You either have to use
the
JAWS cursor and then hear things you don't want or go the view menu and
play
with settings such as true page view, plain text, etc. JAWS with then
read
the document okay but the next scan or anything you have to mess around
with
settings to get it to read. This would not be bad if you only
occasionally
scanned something but if you do a lot of scanning and are in a hurry to
hear
something its a pain.

On the plus side it does load quicker and scans much faster. I sent the
product back for a refund and reinstalled my version 15 which I have no
problem with and works fine.

Oh yes and before someone asks, I tried version 16 with JAWS version 8
and
9 both of which behave exactly the same.

comments?

thanks
Al

Good evening,

I've written to this list a couple of times as well as the blind computing
list about the accessibility of the new OmniPage pro 16. I did not receive
any feedback from anyone. Since I've used OmniPage Pro for years I
purchased the upgrade. It is NOT accessible in many ways and I've returned
the product. It is the first version that is not. In fact, JAWS will not
even read the help topics, manual, or FAQ's

thanks

2007-10-21 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi,

Thanks for sharing that information about OmniPage 16 with us. I was
a little nervous when I upgraded to version 15, but as you said, that
one works very well with Jaws.

I was considering version 16, but after reading your post, that is no
longer an option. I suppose that any future scanning upgrade is going
to be a different hardware/software.

Again, thanks for your help,

Lennie

Re: [JAWS-Users] OmniPage Pro 16

2007-10-20 Thread Alan & Terrie Robbins
Folks,

I have no problem keeping this topic on list. I did not think there was any
interest because in my previous two posts about the program before I
purchased and returned it no one responded to my posts. If discussions are
helpful to the group here then by all means I think it should stay too.
Here are my initial reactions to the updated version (16):

Some of the install screens, especially the custom option, are tough but
doable (have to use the JAWS cursor some)
All of the topics under the help pull down (with exception of the "about"
choice will not read with any of the cursors . They must be graphics base
or something.
My biggest complaint is in previous versions once a document was scanned the
OCR proofreading screen came up. You could then simply hit escape or use it
to correct issues. Once this was done the scanned document was on the
screen and JAWS would read it just like a Word document with all standard
reading keys. In version 16 this does not work You either have to use the
JAWS cursor and then hear things you don't want or go the view menu and play
with settings such as true page view, plain text, etc. JAWS with then read
the document okay but the next scan or anything you have to mess around with
settings to get it to read. This would not be bad if you only occasionally
scanned something but if you do a lot of scanning and are in a hurry to hear
something its a pain.

On the plus side it does load quicker and scans much faster. I sent the
product back for a refund and reinstalled my version 15 which I have no
problem with and works fine.

Oh yes and before someone asks, I tried version 16 with JAWS version 8 and
9 both of which behave exactly the same.

comments?

thanks
Al

Hi Lennie,
I can speak for both myself and David on this matter.
Yes, the subject is on-topic for the list,
and it would be great if those involved in it would keep it on list for the
benefit of the membership.
However, anyone is free at any time to take a discussion off-list.

Re: [JAWS-Users] OmniPage Pro 16

2007-10-20 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi,

I am currently using OmniPage 15 and I was interested in the new
version, but I did not upgrade at this time. Since this topic has to
due with Jaws and OmniPage 16, I think that this topic should remain
on the list so we all may know if it is really accessible or not.
(David, I hope that you agree with me?)

Russell,

Write to me off list and I'll describe in more detail the issues I was
having. I don't believe there are others on this list using it so I don't
want to clutter the list with this discussion
