Re: [JAWS-Users] Please help! my windows7 computer is frozen!!!

2013-06-12 Thread Jo Luland

Hi All,
I recall list members discussing turning on a computer in safe mode. Will
that help me at this time and how do I proceed from there? My grandson will
be here for a few hours, so if I will need sighted assistance, I'll have it.
Please, please I'm sure that some one on this list will have some answers.
Thanks in advance.
Jo

Hello Joe,

I am not sure what you need help with? What is going on with your computer?
If your computer freezes up pushing the power button to turn off the
computer may be what you need to do. then if it does not come back on
normally you may need to press f 11 right after it starts up to get it to
start windows normally. If you have sighted assistance he can highlight
start windows normally and press enter. I hope this helps.

Sincerely, Ryan West

It is likely brand-dependent as to the procedure to get into safe mode.
Usually, I've seen f8 and in some cases, f2.

It is sometimes hard to catch, but assuming it passes the pre-test where you
may hear a short beep, there will be a quick message on the bottom of the
screen telling you to push f8 or f11 or f2, to get into bios settings. I
just push the appropriate key rapidly until it comes up in safe mode.

If your computer doesn't boot normally, you can try restoring from the
last-known good configuration. There are other things you can do in Safe
Mode, or in Safe Mode With Networking, but it is hard to give you advice
without knowing more specifics.

Jaws currently has no provision to run with speech in Safe Mode. So, you'll
need of pair of knowledgeable eyes.

As you turn on the computer, start hitting the function key f8 and go down
to safe mode and enter.
