[JAWS-Users] Trend Micro

2014-10-06 Thread wayne smith
Hello-

I was an enthusiastic Trend Micro Security user until they came out with
Platinum and it became totally inaccessible. Are there any Trend Micro
users out there who have been able to work with the program with JAWS? It's
one of the best anti-virus programs and I would love to have it back.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Wayne

2013-10-07 Thread Melissa
I have watched this conversation, and I think it was me that started it. I
have been using it on multiple computers, for at least 5 years. I have
never had any trouble installing, using, or manipulating it in any capacity.
Since the installation all those years ago, I have never had a virus,
cookie, or spyware that wasn't blocked immediately.
It does cost around $50 or so to install, but this covers multiple
computers. It runs seamlessly in the background, with a accessible monthly
report at the beginning of each month. It also blocks websites that have
been known to operate with suspicious activity. Honestly, I've never had
something I couldn't do with Jaws. Of course, I've been running the current
version each time I renew.
By far, it is the best antivirus/protection service I've used. It makes it
so you need not think about it, at all.
Kindly,
Melissa

Strange, it was pre-installed on the computer I used. I think I had it on a
laptop which motherboard has cracked, so the laptop no longer works, but
Trend Micro worked, and I think I end up having to re-install it after a
hard drive crash, but it worked and installed fine.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trend Micro

2013-10-07 Thread Steve

Kevin,

Don't get confused. It is compatible. It will function with Jaws.

The word you are looking for is accessible; I haven't evaluated it since the
2010 version, but that version was not totally accessible. I am an
experienced Jaws user, and there were areas of that program that you
couldn't access. Now, having said that, I don't honestly recall if I was
using Trendmicro Security Suite or the Anti-Virus program itself. It could
have been the security suite, as I run some programs that require me to open
specific ports on the firewall.

There is some accessibility, but not much that I can see. There really
should be some concerted effort in the blind community to push for
accessibility in virus protection applications.
I know this is not the platform for this type of message, but hopefully
the moderators will give me some leeway here.
Instead of the blind organizations polarizing on most issues, perhaps
this could be one issue that all blind people could rally around?

Maria, I presume you meant that we should be making an effort to communicate
the need for accessibility to ALL the manufacturers of anti-virus software?
That was how I read your message. And I completely agree with the concept,
although I have no idea how it could be worked on effectively.

And I do not think the second person who responded to your note got the point
of your suggestion at all. The first response had a certain validity, but
while having FS involved would be helpful I don't think their being the source
is the answer.

But I completely agree that we should attempt to make a concerted group effort
for basic vital core programmes that all systems need to be equipped with, like
anti virus to be fully accessible to one or more of the top three screen
reading softwares. If anyone has an idea of an effective means to begin that
process I wish we could begin communicating with each other.

Thank you.
I have very little tech within me, but I'm certain that most of these
virus protection programs have common parameters that could be made to
follow accessible guidelines.

Where screen readers come in is in the scripting of these parameters.
If Microsoft did it, why not the rest?
I sure hope I'm be clearer than mud.
When I worked at my local phone company, a JAWS expert was called in to
script a new application being used.

It! can! be! done!

Hi Melissa,

I think accessibility usability are getting confused here so maybe you
can't help clarify this. Do you run Trend Micro using the default settings?
If you wanted to make a change to the default settings i.e: tell the program
to allow certain cookies or ignore particular files / folders, would you
have to use the Jaws cursor to access the menues to make changes to the
default settings? This is just a couple of examples of the many
accessibility questions people are having about using the program.

Did you pay for this, or was it a free antivirus? Could the problem here be
that the free one is inaccessible but the one you pay for is accessible?

Strange, it was pre-installed on the computer I used. I think I had it on a
laptop which motherboard has cracked, so the laptop no longer works, but
Trend Micro worked, and I think I end up having to re-install it after a
hard drive crash, but it worked and installed fine.

Candy, I use Trend Micro on my home and office computers. The only
complaint I have is that if you are using the computer during a scan, it
will slow down the computer. I also find that I need to use the JAWS

JAWS 12.

[JAWS-Users] Trend Micro accessibility

2010-05-28 Thread wayne smith
 Hello

This is my first post to this list, so here goes.

I upgraded my Trend Micro PC Silen to version 16. It is even more
inaccessible than the previous version. I need to be able to turn it off
and shut off the firewall when I download programs and drivers and I can't
find a way to do it. Has anyone had success in doing this? I am using JAWS
11 (not the latest) with Windows 7 Ultra 64bit.

Thanks for any help.

Wayne

2007-12-27 Thread Linda Parent
Hi,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but if you want to know what is starting
up with windows, go to run and type in a blank edit field msconfig and press
enter. As you arrow down the list, you can uncheck what you don't want
started up with windows. Note that when you restart, you will get a message
telling you to select normal startup, etc., but tab to don't show this
message again and tab again after checking that box to okay and press enter.
